No private business in the world runs a deficit of nearly $1b a year while top executives make $400-700k a year. Government workers need accountability to taxpayers. We need the department of government efficiency here in Canada
@veets2073 күн бұрын
@@douglaszimmerman1768 the problem is because nobody's salary comes from taxpayers money, your point about accountability is a moot. However as directors of a crown Corporation, they can't keep accumulating deficits upon deficits and rewarding themselves with bonuses. A lot of their spending is actually on what they call strategic investments, for example building a half billion dollar plant to modernize their logistics and stay competitive in the parcel market, purchasing fuel efficient and electric vehicles for their delivery fleet, and purchasing carbon credits so they can claim that their parcel deliveries are carbon neutral. So why are employees so upset that they are ready to strike? There's a lot happening that is very complicated to explain. Most employees make between 23 to 33$ per hour. The job has changed. Yes lettermail has decreased, but that's no excuse because strategically, management is missing the target which is to expand Canada Post services as is being done in other countries, modernize the post office, and take their rightful share of the parcel market. Just so you know, we did not strike during the pandemic in order to serve Canadians during a very difficult time. Canada Post served Canadians during the entire pandemic with the hopes of being rewarded further in time. The time has come.

as a small business reliant on Canada post for shipments you must also agree that the cost to ship packages across Canada is prohibitively high (compared to national package delivery costs in other countries). they would help their situation if they lowered their parcel costs so small businesses would be able to compete against giants like amazon prime, without having to rely on third party shipment providers for a lower, more competitive price.

Employment and Social Development Canada said that "in anticipation of a potential labour disruption," Service Canada stopped mailing passport packages on Nov. 8 - a week before Canada Post workers walked off the job. They lied. They sent my passport to Canada Post on November 12th - so now I am S.O.L. and the Passport Office won’t answer the phone, won’t offer an email address, won’t give me any way to find out what, if anything, can be done to get my passport to me. I don't know of any other company that allows retires to stay in a benefit program and they still cover most of the retires cost. The new fleet as I understand it a requirement from the liberal government to go as green as possible. They got electric and hybrid fleet trucks. Not that it has anything to do with the union anyway. The new plant she was talking about was started long before covid and the long term economic costs of many shut downs. After all those shut downs all mail and packages volumes started to decline. The crazy carbon tax the liberals have put out there also affect CP. In short CP has higher costs of operation while mail and package volumes decline. The union isn't willing to give any understanding to the problems CP is facing and just demands more. They have a socialist mentality, and a over inflated sense self value.

The union has no idea what the public wants, there just trying to justify their strike, and what they are asking for is just ridicules with the exception of wanting to change everyone to part time and weekends I agree with those two things, that shouldn't be done, but asking for a 20+% pay increase is ridicules, what person in Canada wouldn't want that but it's not possible, unless you want to increase taxes on all Canadians again, as for getting new trucks that's none of the unions business, the government pays for that, and they will be safer since they would be new, so the union in my eyes is giving out a lot of misinformation or lying, as I am sure that Canada Post is to, there has to be a middle between the two parties, neither one of then should get everything they want, and the union should keep working until there is a fair agreement between the two of them, neither one of them is looking very good in the publics eyes.
