Canada's Canyon

I ride this canyon (Fraser Canyon) several times a summer on my Harley. With all the trains heading north and south and the beautiful scenery, its magical !

As an ex-pat living in the US, I still watch railroading in BC. I used to work for the old PGE when it became the BCR. I helped survey and build the Dease Lake extension. The Fraser and Thompson River canyons are fantastic engineering feats for both CN AND CP. If the Dease Lake extension ever gets completed, it would be a fantastic travel experience. There is a lot of mineral along the route, some known, and lots more untapped! Fishing for steeliness in the Thompson and the Frazer, and watching the trains pass by, is a most rewarding and unforgettable experience -and do is the fishing! I love those trains-even at 81!

2012 travelled Jasper to Vancouver on Rocky Mountaineer was wonderful to see all this railroad action. At 6:00 I remember that outcrop in river.

My friend and I just took ViaRail on this route from Winnipeg to Vancouver. Wonderful experience and beautiful scenery! If only it didn’t get dark.

This a Great Place to Railfan ! The scenery is Beautiful, the frequency of Trains is good from both CP and CN from either side of the canyon. The geography goes from lush forest in Hope to arid high desert in Ashcroft and Savona. Lytton makes a good place to camp with a couple Hotels, restaurants, general store, and gas station.. Try to go middle of August thru September for sunniest, driest weather, after all, this is the Northwest and cloud cover and drizzle can occur most months !

I love seeing CP trains going threw the canyons more than CN. CP rail might be the smaller of the two but CP was the first railroad across the nation and will always be known as such. Unfortunately via rail goes down mostly CN track and as far as I’m concerned took the spirit of the Canadian passenger railway away from diehard rail fans

I Lived on a rented Farm from the 1800 in norway, and it was exactly the same Nature,and the Train-Rail, went a cross the property!Like in Western Movies. 50 times pr Day.It was very Nice,and the ONLY Sign of Civilisation!

I'm always saddened by the total lack of pride CPR and CNR have in their locos and rolling stock. Filthy locomotives and dirty, rusting freight cars. They should be encouraging those graffiti artists who paint up the sides of cars. It's a big improvement. But I guess it's the bean-counters in charge and a dirty engine pulls as much dollars into the coffers as a clean one. Screw pride.

+Thomas Nixon Actually, Thomas, I can assure you that the Canadians has more personal pride than his American cousins I have worked/trained half life in each country. Just look at the way the average Canadian in matters of clothing/dressing style, weight/overweight appearance, matters of politeness, general education, violence (actually lack thereof), etc... compared to their American counterpart. BTW, showing your "but-crack" and the "'Hood" look are not Canadian fashion statements. As far as railroads, CP/CN cover a larger network than their US neighbors and in worse weather conditions with less locomotives. The American network is split in many smaller company trackages. CP/CN may not have the operating funds of some of the US companies. Not all American railroad networks are as clean as the ones shown on YT.

Small canadian trains. US trains are much longer and more powerful, like 4 Locos in Front, 2 in the middle and 2 in the back and 3 miles long.
