After working all summer on the cabin, I take a break and head east before the weather gets colder. I try a campground in Nova Scotia, marvel at the surfing birds on Cape Breton Island and then take the big plunge off the mainland and onto the Big Rock to the East!
More too follow over the next few weeks...

I always enjoy your travel “guides”. Your photography and narrative is well presented…I much appreciate your presentation style. As for your meals.. makes me happy to know that I’m not the only one that eats simple but tasty meals. Have you tried a miso vegetable broth w/ the Tainan noodles. So easy and full of protein! An easy boil of the noodle water, add the (dry) broth packet contents. Simple easy and a good source of protein. Thank you for all you do. Love your travels and rebuilding the cabin…informative. Roll on!

Hey, Slim...Much as I enjoyed your cabin adventures....Its great to join you on the road again. I'd forgotten what an excellent videographer you are. My husband and I traveled a lot....but mostly on the Pacific side. Since we cant travel anymore (Age and health related). We almost bought the the Outback trailer, too.....regret we didn't. I'm enjoying your travels to the Eastside a lot. Sunsets are nearly as pretty as ours in Washington State.😉 I have always enjoyed sharing your "laid back travels".....so looking forward to this adventure. *Recliner Babe*

Hey Slim! I’ve been hoping you’d do a trip into this part of Nova Scotia since your move east. Just before retiring in 2006, I spent a month in eastern Nova Scotia. I rented a small home near Sherbrooke and used that as a base to explore. One of our trips was up and around the Cabot Trail, a trip that I’d recommend to anyone. We didn’t have the time for the ferry to Newfoundland, so I’m happy you did & are sharing it with us! Looking forward to following along in the coming videos!

We took the ferry to Port aux Basque back in '92 on our way to Gros Morne and L'anse aux Meadows, stopping at Corner Brook to visit the "Sticks and Stones House" (now gone). We video taped our visit there and it now sits in some Canadian archive as the only existing (known) tour of that arts and crafts wonder. As we drove up the western arm of Newfoundland we met many people who had never met an American and that was cool! On the way back to NS we hung with a kid making the "Newfie Migration" to Toronto for work and to get a wife and kids and then return to raise them on Newfoundland. I don't know what's ever happened to him but we wished him well because, being his first time away from home, he was terrified.

Have the best time Slim! Newfoundland is one of my favourite provinces. Hike the Skerwink Trail, visit Fogo Island, check out the beaches around Port Aux Basque, Elliston for it's puffin colony and root cellars! These are just a few things we enjoyed. If reversing a trailer is your fear then just remember when backing up if you see more of your outfit in the drivers mirror just steer that way a tad until it all straightens up and ofcourse do the same for the passenger mirror. Nice and slowly does it. On a ferry it will have the lanes marked so gives you something to line up with. Try it out in an empty car park early morning is what I used to do. Practice makes perfect.

@Linda Suprenant THANK YOU so much!! I paused the video specifically to see if anyone had ID’d the surfing birds! (I’m from northeastern USA and NOT a seasoned bird watcher, though I recognize the standard cardinals, bluebirds, mourning doves, etc. in my neighborhood. The surfers looked like ducks to me, but I’d never seen ducks in salt water before, let alone reveling in it!🤣) Going to enjoy learning more about scoters, thanks to you!🤗

Hi Slim, one of your best videos. Beautifull photography of scenery, landscape and nature. Everytime you go for music it is tops - like the ones from the deep south. By the way those surferbirds were all female eiderducks (Yes the birds with the downs.). The males are almost completly white. They love to swim and dive in the ocean. Mira is a latin word and stands for wonderous or miracolous. Thank you for your great videos.

So many places that I visited with my late wife. The first time I crossed the Canso Causeway they still charged a toll! Not too far up the east coast of Cape Breton there is a park that contains the remains of a French coastal battery that was part of Louisburg's defenses and the small English fort that replaced it. I spent a great day tracing the ramparts and earthworks of the old French position although if you didn't know what to look for you could miss them entirely. History of times before there even WAS a "Canada"! It was also a bit of a trip down memory lane when you went through Renfrew on your move east. My late wife grew up there and we visited her parents there often... before they pulled up stakes and moved to Salt Spring Island, B.C.!
