I live in Maine and have a camp in Jackman ME and we dont even go to it from Memorial Day to the 4th of July because of the bugs. And even in July they are pretty bad. They come in seasons: first, it is the black flies which will land on you and crawl around until they find flesh. Later it switches to mosquito season where they coat screens to the point of making an open window useless. After that it is a combo of mosquitoes, deer flies and horse flies, which are particularly vicious as their life cycle is short in the north. It is truly amazing that you can drive there, park your car, get out of the car and be instantly covered in biting flies. I mean, what were they doing until you got there? Just hanging out for days and days just waiting for you?

Very nice custom install for sure. My only problem was when you mentioned 26 degrees and that tripped my cold alarm since I have a 50 degree tolerance :0)

Think you picked the wrong heater. A proper deisel heater would have been a far better choice. The one you tried was a portable Chinese heater which you placed outside, next to the trailer door, on the ground. It would have had to be removed every time you relocated. A diesel heater could have been installed hidden in the trailer and vented out the bottom of the trailer eliminating the vent stack. The thermostat is digital and programmable. A larger permanent diesel tank mounted where your propane tanks are located would eliminate spills and can be filled with fuel at the same time as you gas your vehicle. There's absolutely no smell and they use very little power. They are by far the choice in almost all conversion van.

You definitely make good points about the pros of a diesel heater, however after 2 years, I know I made the right choice for my own needs. First, I see no reason to use three fuels for travel when I can easily get by with two, and diesel emits far more pollutants and poisonous gases then propane. Second, I am one of those people that cannot stand the smell of diesel, both in pouring it and the fumes of burning it, even if the exhaust is only outside. You should also consider others are also sensitive to it, so should you be parked close to other campers, the fumes may bother them as well. Third, the diesel heater cannot run without electricity, as it is totally dependant on power. The Dickinson can heat with no power at all. I would also never trade the calming aesthetics of the flicking flame to the thump thump of the diesel pump. As far as reliability goes, the Dickinson has few moving parts and is likely repairable on site, while the diesel relies on circuitry, pumps and a motherboard that would be very difficult to fix on a cold winter night. To each his own. The only other heater that may compete with the Dickinson is a Propex HS2000, as it runs on propane. Unfortunately they are a lot more expensive, and I am a budget traveler. It also sounds like you missed the prior video which explained my choices in detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWS8eaaNZpWjhrc

Hello, enjoyed your informative video, thanks. I would like to know why you chose the P9000 Marine model rather that the heater designed specifically for camper/RV installations?

Mr Potatohead, this question isn't related to the heater but how have you managed to hang your curtains? I don't want to drill holes into the RV and thought perhaps you have a better alternative.

I worked in a HardWareStore for many years and sold a lot of wood and oil stoves. People were always asking me how to install them. Our lawyer said the answer had to be "You cannot install the stove without a Permit and then an approval from the State inspector". And also I always added that whatever makes your insurance company happy is what you need to do. Read the directions that come with the stove, it will tell you to get the stove professionally installed or at least get the Permit and work on it until you get the final approval from the inspector for the State. So glad to hear you (at about 16:00) say those things. I would not ever want to be the cause of loss of property or life.

The most important part of your body to keep warm is your head. Always wear a warm hat! Your brain is a very selfish organ and will always take care of itself first. If your head gets cold the first thing your brain does is shunt blood flow away from your extremities and into your head. To keep feet and hands warm? Keep you head warm😮😮

How do you run propane without moisture issues? I'm always hearing people warn against propane for that reason suggesting diesel instead
@SlimPotatohead
@SlimPotatohead 9 күн бұрын
Moisture is the byproduct of burning all carbon fuels, whether wood, gas, propane or diesel. The difference is the type of heater. Those that use heat transfer instead of direct heat will allow no moisture in the cabin or room whatsoever. Look for a heater with a heat exchanger.

Slim, It's Nov2024. I see you've put out the vid from Italy and the YT fed me this video after. Yes, it all is what I needed. R&R, restoration and reminder. It is a relief to know that there will be more Slim vid inputs. Also, that when reminded, we can search in the right plains of reality and find our truths and answers. Travel well friend, and know you've been missed ❤

To reduce the noise in the old Dometic nt-12se and nt-16se furnaces, you can replace the fan blades with the ones from the NT-16seq. Even though the blades on the parts diagram for the heaters look the same, they are a totally different beast and run much quieter and move more air. I also put a pwm module with softstart between the board and the motor to turn down the speed a bit. This is a cheap upgrade on those old furnaces and may save your sanity at night! Blades are less that $10 US and pwm is about the same.

Hi Slim, I have been viewing all of your old videos and you have inspired me to take out my film cameras and photograph again. Especially in Boondocking Nevada, your advice about not paying attention to the obvious when you declined to photograph the mountain and focused on a mud bank with hieroglyphics markings as it dried out. BTW, I finally got to see your “stranded in a snow storm video,” Though the occasional negative comments really annoyed you it did receive 4 million views! I can also understand your frustration with your subscribers as only 75-85k view the videos on a steady basis. I can only hope one day you can reach the Arctic Ocean as you wanted. Hope there is a similar road as the Dempsey Highway you can find in Eastern Canada to travel on
