Damn. I won't forget the story of Black Spot. Stood post protecting her family until she literally starved. Even dying, she fed the pups who weren't her blood. A true soldier.

@@sosan1381 Black Spot joined Snow White's pack and it was Snow White's pups. Snow White was able to leave the den and hunt since Black Spot was guarding, and was also getting fed by the pack. But Black Spot refused to leave the den and she wasn't being fed by the pack since the pack hadn't had a big kill and spare food. So she starved to death while protecting Snow White's pups. Black Spot was also nursing Snow White's pups so she was spending lot more energy to produce milk which sped up her starvation related death. The pack will feed Snow White even if it means they go hungry since she's in charge. But they will not intentionally go hungry to feed Black Spot whose is just a member and a new one at that.

Ah, how about the Inuit (Eskimos)? Man/Women to be PC, survive in every corner of the earth without a natural fur coat and killer fangs. I've been from Alaska to Labrador and every where in between working on the North Warning Systen (NWS or Distant Early Warning system, DEW line radars to protect against against Russian nuclear bombers crossing the horth pole). There were wolves, polar bears, cariboo, whales ...We weren't so much afraid of wolves as the polar bears as they may look cuddley but they think a human is just a seal, thier favorite food. Almost all the stations were built on stilts so as not to thaw out/melt the permafrost (frozen ground) and sink into the earth. When ever you went outside you had to crouch down and look under the building before taking the stairs as the bears like to sleep under the buildings for shelter and warmth. We also needed a rifle and flash bangs at all times while outside. There were bait dogs in many places tied up to alert of any bears and discourage them.

Didn't you watch the part where the wolves located and killed the cubs of the lone female wolf. She couldn't protect them. If she tried she would be killed.The trio of wolves hunted down the lair containing cubs, killed those cubs, broke them up and ate them. No meat is wasted where they're at..Forget the cuckoo cuddley lah lah bit. Wolfs kill wolves, especially cubs of rival females. Nothing cute about cannabalism and infanticide in their world. Wolves are supreme killers, survival experts, and pack specialists. That, is the reality of these superb predators.

You're right. We could learn how to hunt down and kill each other like these wolves do. Oh, wait.... we already do that. I suppose we could learn how to kill and then eat the offspring of other humans, or eat our own dead progeny (again, like the wolves and MANY other species do, including bald eagles). Hardly any of us indulge in that practice. OR... we could be like my ducks where, if left to their own 'nature', the males (drakes) consistently would gang up seven or more to one and rape a single female to death while holding her head underwater as she drowns. When I was growing up in SoDak, we had a horse that would eat the fluffy newly hatched baby chickens if they got too close to her (I know...that' seems weird). I don't know why she did that, but you people who constantly hold up humans as being the prime examples of cruelty, and animals as being the way people should act, have obviously never spent any time around wildlife or farm animals. Just sayin'.

Quality and substance of this Documentary are excellent. WE thank the film crew and Editor of this Video for producing such a detailed study into the Arctic Wolf behavior. Living in the Arctic to film the Wolf Packs would not be easy in the Summer let alone the winter. For the Editor, is it possible that Black Spot died of a Disease rather than starving to death.

I’ve worked in eureka before and the wolves pass right through camp almost daily. One guy even pet one named one eye because his other eye was scared. They are harmless and pass right through scouting for musk ox. I’ve seen them chase Hare too but with no success.

The cub with the same spot as Black Spot makes me think that it was hers, and not Snowwhite's. It would explain a few things to me, like why she was even lactating, or why Snowwhite and Alpha allowed her near the cubs. Amazing documentary and amazing photography. Have no clue how was this video executed, I can guess using drawn photography, but still there must be an operator nearby 24/7. As for the story of the pack, it was heart breaking. Wolves, as much as they seem (to me) so cute, huggable, and amazing animals, must have their own behavioral codes, and can be deadly to one another. I mean, it was heart breaking to see that poor wolf member being wounded and left to die, obviously he was submissive; so could a get-out-of-here warning be suffice? There was no really need to injure him to death. Then there is BlackSpot they have been using until drained to death, like a slave of no merit. If she did die of starvation, they probably knew it will be (as they know and sense anything, much more than we humans), but probably as she was from a different pack ("immigrant") they did not care much for her, they let her raise and nurture the pups, and then goodbye. Tough to watch; but there is nature, what do we humans really know about?

The cooled but scariest encounter with wildlife I ever had was as a girl in Georgia. I was in the woods exploring and all of a sudden I heard the growl of a cougar and I froze, because that I was told to do, and it took me a second to see him, but he was staring straight into my eyes and I could his right font leg. I was only about 6 feet away, so I stayed frozen and averted my gaze and dared glance once more and I will never forget how gorgeous that big cat was. He blended in so damned well I damn near fell over him. He looked at me for probably about 20 seconds and then went on his way. He was just telling me I had intruded on his territory, but the hair stood up on my arms and neck the split-second at me. I still get chillbumps thinking about it, but he was MAGNIFICENT. Fortunately, cougars don’t like to bother humans unless you corner them somehow, so he let me pass. I hope I never surprise a wolf, though when my parents lived in Reno near the mountains, I was looking out at the Christmas snow early in the morning and a timber wolf went slowly jogging through the yard, and I saw lynx and bobcats there, and one day we woke up and there was a small group of wild horses in the backyard grazing. They were amazing. I love watching them test through the Nevada landscape. What a sight to see. What a beautiful planet we have.
