Im 48yrs old. In April 2011 i applied to the regular Canadian army in Anti Aircraft. The process is long. I did all the exams and passed blood tests and ECG. No i am now waiting for some "credit file" stuff to come in by mail. My son is in regular Artllerie. My dauther lives with her boyfriend. Im divorced and single, terminated my 26 year old chemical sales carreer and waiting out all the shitty delays to finally make it to basic training around Oct 2011. DAMN....TIME SURE PASSES REAL SLOW!!

@rock3tcat they can take ground targets too

@rock3tcat : As you can see in the video, this ADATS not only effective against Aircraft and Helicopters, but also can be used to take down enemy Ground Vehicles,
@NovaScotiaNewfie13 жыл бұрын
@rock3tcat I have no idea maybe they help coordinate NATO AIR Assets they did mention stopping friendly fire so maybe to help look out for no "blue on blue"engagements.

Maybe next Adats system can be fitted on the Lav Chassis to keep things simple if it's light enough.

I have just taken my aptitude test back in November and now I'm just waiting to hear back from the recruiting center to get my interview. Artillery is what I applied for :) Let's see if I get in.

The main problem with ADATS that it can be shot down by SEAD anti-radar missiles, that's why it was removed from Canadian service in 2012
@strongproudandfree9 жыл бұрын
+izvarzone Its a laser guided missile, operator does not need radar to acquire/track and engage the target. It was removed from service because it was over 20 years old and the contractor shut down all production. Since the system low level AD with a relatively short range the pilot of any aircraft has at most 3 seconds to react to being fired at. Not a tracking radar by the way.
@JavelinS1514 жыл бұрын
@rock3tcat The ADATS never deployed outside of Canada (and only once at that), there are some who will argue that ROVING SANDS in Texas was a deployment but they didnt have live missiles. The ASCC has had a continious preseace in Afghanistan since at least 2003
@rock3tcatU23315 жыл бұрын
Excuse my ignorance, but why were they deployed in Afghanistan? Did Taliban purchase some advanced fighter jets or what?
@MissMindylicious14 жыл бұрын
@diehardcutie actually, maybe you should have worded it different because it wasnt clear.. and if you are so awesome, then maybe you can tell me what the 4th air defence regiment does in afghanistan.. i'll give you a hint, it is not an air defence role.
@Saguanay13 жыл бұрын
@rock3tcat The troop is deployed in Afghanistan working in the air coordination center. He isn't there as part of a deployed AD unit. This video is from the recruiters showing the trade overall and testimonials from these soldiers.

Pakistan, Iran, Egypt and other countries have fighter jets. These also take out tanks and fortifications from long distances.

ADATS is nice, but I think its a little behind compared to other anti-air systems. The MMEV (Multi-Mission Effects Vehicle) would be a nice upgrade to it.

Now on paper canada has no home or base or field deployable or permanent ground based air defense systems. Only sea and air missile and aircraft defense. Which i find this really hard to believe because canada bought the Iron dome Tech what almost 10 years ago, Canada was attacked twice because there base in iraq didnt have air defense and with more advanced and increased arctic activity and what 20 to 70 million investment in Arctic Air Defense Yet on paper Canada Will Not Be Building Ground Based Interceptors Or Ballistic Missile Defense Of even Simple Surface To Air Missile for Bombers Or Lower Grade Premade Deployable Systems like Thaad And Patriot. Either Canadas Government is stupider then ever or there Secretly Building and Deploying Advanced Air Defenses And Dont Want The Competition To Know which makes sense considering 1 the canadian goverment declined Ballistic Missile Defense by Us And Got Rid Of its Nukes And Thinks Canada will Become A Bigger Target Then It Already Is If We Installed Missile Defense Aircraft Defense Anti ship missiles etc. Not Including Our Soldiers Abroad Who Dont Even Have A Basic Air Defense System Smh.

@rock3tcat no they did air defense coordination, i.e to avoid friendly fire.

Does Canada still have the ADATS? How advanced is Canada's military particularly its artillery compared to the US? I understand the military doesn't even have a missile defense system like the US Patriot or Avenger missile system. Why is that?? Wats up with that? Canada doesn't have the money or what?
@GalvanicTerror10 жыл бұрын
It's because nobody wants to go to war with Canada and therefor a strong missile defence system isn't necessary.

it would be good to be prepared for anything tho right?

Defence spending in Canada is at a 80 year low vs GDP less than 1%. If you put all the combat soldiers in Canada's Army in a NHL rink you would have a lot of empty seats.
@strongproudandfree9 жыл бұрын
+Riley McWalter You would be wrong. Full scale wars today are fought on a come as you are basis. If you don't have it you won't be able to build it or train your soldiers to use it in time. Gulf war part 1 and 2 are prime examples part 1 had all ground combat done in 100 hours. Canada has a smaller military then Luxembourg and they are land locked.
@quickzilver33313 жыл бұрын
@rock3tcat ADATS is a multi-role vehicle. You can replace the surface to air missiles with TOWS to destroy heavily fortified enemy position. The 50 caliber machine gun is handy also against the Taliban.
