So... I called my septic tank people to have them come out and check the tank because it smelled! I had recently purchased a house in the country. I told her my thoughts and how it smelled every time I went outside. She paused for a moment and said slowly... I think you are smelling the spray on the fields. I said...what kind of spray? She said they spray the fields in the spring and fall with cow manure. I suddenly realized. OMG! I'm a city boy in the country! I laughed and hung up. Told the wife. Why not share it.

Here in Europe we call this Slurry Manure is more solid We also use similar slurry tankers but with Dribble Bars which basically injects the slurry into the ground always on grass to use for Silage for cattle feed

In Scotland larger farms have to spread using a precision method (dribble bar or injection).Smaller farms will have to do it from 2027. This is suppose to minimise nitrogen loss to the environment. Expensive decision by non farming “experts”.

After awhile you tune into the nuances of manure and become a connoisseur and you can identify the type of originating livestock and even identify the originating farm by its unique terroir:- hmmm, starting to sound like a manurophile here. 😊

They are the AgriBrink tire pressure control system. The tires are pumped up for the highway and lowered while entering a field to distribute the weight over a wider tire surface area thus reducing soil compaction. All controlled from the cab ..

No, just a few grams of N per square metre, the average suburban home-owner dumps a lot more on their lawn, you don't want too much N up front because it makes your plants grow too quickly and too long and leggy and susceptible to rusts and smuts and mildew and insect attack.

No, you do not lose the nutrients. The manure is returned to the farmer for application to tje fields

Actually no, the manure-loading per square metre is quite low and the soil is fine-grained so that all of the non-soluble solids and odour-substances are filtered and trapped in the top few inches while all of the water and dissolved solids stay in the rooting zone:- soil hydrology is not so simple, the stuff does not just slide through down into the water table and then zip over to a neighbouring property by next morning:- soil water migrates very slowly and all sorts of ssoil bacteria work on it along the way.

I was told the twin tankers were $450,000 each pair, $900K for each tractor, $300K for the crawler and $100K for computer and software equipment ... but the numbers are not verified ... still .. LOTS. and it's cow manure .... you gotta pump a lot of poop to make that bank payment!

You need to be philosophical and inquisitive:- think about all those molecules, where they came from and where they're going, I mean you put the poo onto the soil and then plant something and the soil converts the seeds and sun and rain and poo into more money and eventually more poo to restart the cycle, a veritable chain-reaction of money and poo!
