Hate to tell you, but war has been going on a long, long, long time, much longer than NATO. Spartans were great at war for a while, that was like 2500 years ago? or more? Romans like war, that was 2000 years ago. The Crusades to reclaim the Holy Lands was around 1000 years ago. WWI AND WW2 both occured prior to NATO. The entire European continent was at a constant state of war for about 1500 years between various countries, nation states, kingdoms, etc. In fact, until they formed NATO to protect themselves from an encroaching Soviet Union, they were always at each others throats.
