Used to be the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railway (AKA the "Old" Soo Line). In 1987, in an effort to conserve cash, the Soo Line Railroad created the Lake States Transportation Division too sell off and operate less important lines in the Midwest. The Waukesha Subdivision went to the newly created Wisconsin Central Railroad in 1987. In 2001, Canadian National acquired the WC.

Hey, you should definitely consider doing a video on the BNSF line that runs along the Mississippi in Wisconsin! Cassville Wisconsin is an awesome place to capture videos and pictures along the double main line. It runs right through the middle of the small town. Trains hall through there about every 15 minutes no joke! I think you could make an awesome video

Hi Stefan! Thank you so much for the recommendation! I will definitely do some research around that area!

I wish I could ride in the cab of a freight train. That would be great. I have the upmost respect for the engineers driving the train.

Do trains go thru Wausau & Waukesha every day?
@bnsf75623 жыл бұрын
I'm not extreme familiar with either town, but looking at a map, it seems that both towns would see a fair amount of daily traffic.

What's in the excess height cars? Is it car body panels? I have always wondered what they carry.
@bnsf75627 жыл бұрын
Hi Darren! The standard freight car that is marked 'excess height' is the autorack, which carries finished automobiles. They can be built three different ways: tri-level, bi-level or, more recently, uni-level. Sometimes you may see a boxcar that's marked 'excess height' but I don't think they carry anything specific. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for replying. Another question from a UK railwayman (40 years last week!) - I didn't know that locomotives from Canada operated into Northern US and vice versa. How long has this been happening? Great vid. Love the horns on your locos - all our trains in UK have to have two-tone horns, but the tones on yours sound so mournful. They send shivers down my back!

You might be even more surprised to know that one of the Canadian railroads goes all the way to the Gulf Coast! This stems from multiple factors including mergers and trackage rights that have developed over the years between various railroads.

I'll be hopefully heading to East Troy, WI in a couple months. The place I'm staying is right next to, or at least what the last 5 minutes of research suggests, the Waukesha Sub. Any idea of how trafficked the line is up there?
@bnsf75626 жыл бұрын
I would suspect about the same as the area I covered. I know traffic on CN is up considerably, so there may even be more than what I got when I was there in 2016.
