Only one blast of the horn away from the crossing was quite unusual to see in your videos. Maybe a first. Is this area considered a "quiet zone"? Maybe the engineer blew the horn for a reason if there was someone or some animal near the track.

Yeah, Waukesha is a quiet zone on the CN. Someone could have been on or near the tracks.

@@Brenton81 I thought so. Thanks for the reply, Brenton, and for sharing another very enjoyable video on an overcast Wisconsin day. I also see this on Virtual Railfan in the downtown area of Flagstaff, AZ. That city also has a "quiet zone" and the BNSF engineers only sound the VERY loud horns when needed, mostly when stupid people are crossing the tracks when a train is approaching. I have seen too many close calls of people doing this, also. I feel bad for the engineers having to deal with this but I guess that is part of their very stressful job.

@@DougCeleste Yeah, it has to be one of the worst things a train crew can go through. There's absolutely nothing they can do to avoid hitting someone, besides dumping the air. Even then, it'll take a mile or so to come to a stop. I'll never understand the stupidity and unnecessary risk just for the sake of saving a few minutes.

@@Brenton81 Your points are well-taken and I agree. In Flagstaff, the engineers have to always be on-guard for all the college students in the downtown area who seem to think it is cool to walk in front of the approaching BNSF and Amtrak trains. I have witnessed too many close calls online with the engineers having to sound the horns when needed in the "quiet zone" in the city. And yes, when the trains hit vehicles and people, they cannot quickly stop as you stated and the train personnel have to often see the gory carnage left behind. There is a KZbin video of an Amtrak train hitting a carload of teens who crossed the track at the last minute when the fast train was about 10' from the crossing. Five lives in that car killed instantly and you see a conductor getting out of the train down the track to inspect the front of the train and then going to see what was left of the car and bodies. Thank God the viewers do not see that latter part. Anyhow, your last sentence in the above post summed it up very well.
