The driver who rear-ends the traffic jam is at fault, you always have to "drive by sight" and be able to stop in time. If you can't see far enough (curve/weather) you must slow down.
@UntilWeregoing
@UntilWeregoing Ай бұрын
Yeah that makes sense. Completely avoidable!
@RustyDust101
@RustyDust101 Ай бұрын
Completely agreed. The rule of thumb is you shouldn't drive faster in km/h than your visual observation distance in meters. Even if there's no speed limit. Going through a curve that limits your visual distance also should limit your speed.
@schnelma605
@schnelma605 Ай бұрын
1:00 The recommended speed on the autobahn is 130 km/h (~81mph). This means you won't get a ticket if you drive faster, but you will (in most cases) be held partially responsible under civil law in an accident if you drive over 130 km/h. Even if the blame lies with the other person (except the speed), like here (changing lanes without looking). In cases similar to those shown here, courts ruled e.g. 20% or 30% partial guilt

Reckless driving?
@ropeburn6684
@ropeburn6684 Ай бұрын
@@UntilWeregoing It's not the same as reckless driving. The legal argumentation is that the faster you go, the more "Betriebsgefahr" (="inherent operating danger") there is. If you go way over 130, you introduce more inherent danger to the road, which you're allowed to - but will be held partially responsible for in case of accidents. You may also get a ticket for "inappropriate speed", which is judged by circumstance on a case by case basis. The main idea is that freedom comes with responsibility. Paragraph 1 of the German traffic code: "traffic participants shall behave in a way as to not hinder or endanger others". This paragraph supercedes all others, and in specific circumstances can make you walk free even if you broke other rules - if you can prove you did it to avoid breaking number 1.

Autobahns gernerally don't have traffic lights and also no T-connections. There are a few very special exceptions but this is the gerneral rule. Statistically the Autobahn is very safe. One of those exceptions are tunnels for example. They will signal red so you don't enter if an accident or burning vehicle is inside.
@hansmeiser32

"Statistically the Autobahn is very safe." Yes, less traffic deaths than on city streets or country roads. Country roads are most dangerous with the majority of traffic death (> 60%)

Awesome. Yeah our government refused to build o o overpasses or tunnels so our highway is inefficient as a result

I don’t know if it was only budgetary concerns or not. It’s not at every crossing, there is some with overpasses. But it’s always a running joke; my Father and mine anger when we see a yellow light when approaching on the highway. You lose all your momentum, and add wear and tear on the vehicle

@@UntilWeregoing ah yes fiscal politics, won't get into that rabbit hole ^^ Edit: On the other hand, we have a rare road-type called "Kraftfahrstraße" (more or less "road for motorised vehicles") which is like an "Autobahn light". It also has technically no general max. speed, but also a min. speed requirement to enter (at the Autobahn a car has to be able to run over 60km/h, according to the specs of the car as well). Here one could find traffic lights and road crossings (no pedestrian and/or bike lanes), therefore the max. speed is mostly capped at around 120-130km/h (~75/80mph). Edit2 about the video: German traffic-code §3 "Speeds" says: 1) Anyone driving a vehicle may only drive so fast that one is under constant control of the vehicle. The speed must be adapted in particular to the road, traffic, visibility and weather conditions as well as personal abilities and the characteristics of the vehicle and load.
@RustyDust101

The first instance definitely was a violation of checking rear view mirror AND setting the blinker at least three seconds before changing lanes. So yes, the vehicle that pulled over was at fault, completely correct. That the Golf GTI driver managed to prevent a full rear end collision and reduce it to minor scrapes shows good training and reflexes. Because no matter how fast he was driving anyone changing lanes has to be able to judge the speed of approaching vehicles from behind AND yield. Setting your blinker does NOT give the right to immediately pull over if your action puts others at risk.

The Lamborgini Crash wasn't in Germany (No German Police in the Pictures in the end) - and maybe he simply lost control because of a pothole (at 200+mph a pothole can be "dangerous"). And the last one was a Police chase (as written in the title before the footage "Audi A4 POLICE CHASE crash") and yes it was the On-Board Camera in the Police car that filmed the chase.

@@UntilWeregoing IIRC he had stolen the luxury car and was trying to make it over the border. Stupid, because European police cooperate very well and frequently across borders in these cases. (Great YT video on that: Dutch and German police chase stolen van!) He tried to flee on foot to hide his identity, it wasn't his car anyways.

The left lanes are not "fast lanes" on the Autobahn, they are "passing lanes". Big difference! As soon as you're done passing, you always have to go as far to the right as you can, even if you're fast. Which the driver at 3:15 fails to do. You always have to expect someone even faster and it would be illegal for them to overtake you on the right, so by staying left, you force them to brake suddenly. In extreme cases, this can legally be considered coercion with endangerment.

Hi! It has already been written that the motorway is relatively safe. To bring this statement to life, I would like to back it up with a few numbers. In Germany, around 3,500 people die in road traffic every year. To do this you always have to keep two things in mind. In a country that is significantly smaller than California and has more than twice the population, the number is relatively low (although every death is, of course, one too many). At the beginning of the 70s, the story was significantly different. We had to mourn around 20,000 deaths! Since then, a lot has happened through improved infrastructure ("Away with the trees of death"), improved vehicle technology and further improved driver training. The legal basis has also been continually changed to increase security. You should also keep in mind that Germany is the No. 1 transit country in Europe. From east to west, because of the Alps and from north to south, to the Alps and the Mediterranean. Around 450 people die on German highways every year. In comparison, 600- 800 motorcyclists die on average on our roads every year...

There are no crossings on the Autobahn - if any (even another Autobahn) Street "crosses" the autobahn, it does this via a bridge or tunnel - to switch to another street you exit your current street (called Ausfahrt) and enter the other one - If it happens to be another Autobahn by using the entry lane (called Auffahrt) Also, @5:10 thats not 225 km/h

The Video with the Huracan isn‘t in Germany. In Germany you would never have this hard bumps on the road. Not all Highways in Germany are build for this speeds, but many are build to drive between 250 and 300 km/h.

4:07 That is clearly not in Germany. Probably Hungary where the legal limit is 130. But road, signs etc. felt off to me immediately. And the police cars in the end showed clearly it was not actually the Autobahn.

I could have told you the first one will pull over. The young guy should've braked not blinked! Wtf! Driver too young, car too fast, not enough experience, ciao Kakao! xD Makes me aktually a bit gleeful. Second could've also braked, but his ego whispered: Make him go awaaaaaaay! Unfortunately there was more traffic. Just stupid. I can tell you, because I had an emergency braking from .. don't know 250 km/h maybe, at night in heavy rain. Autobahn was quite empty, just one truck. What I saw really late was that the backlights of the truck were actually a car behind the truck. It pulled over, which was quite stupid because at night you see cars behind you even without looking in the mirror. I braked >>immediately
