The road is a popular tourist destination, and as long as you stay in the car you will probably be fine. If the weather gets too bad, Norwegian roads will be closed. The problem is possibly that tourists in Norway do not have the necessary respect for the natural forces at work, and take chances to get the best photos. It is easy to get washed away if you go down on the rocks, and if you end up in the waves, you are in bad shape. Every year, tourists die in Norway because they took chances, whether on or by the sea, on steep mountain sides, they freeze to death on the mountains in winter or they are caught in avalanches because they enter areas that people are advised to stay away from.

This is my first time seeing this road too, but I can imagine a couple of reasons why it’s considered dangerous. I don’t know how typical the weather in the video is, but if those waves were a little stronger I can visualize a car being swept off the road, or at least cause the driver to have difficulty controlling the vehicle. In addition, I’ve heard a rumor that Norway can get a little chilly now and again. Can you imagine trying to drive that road when it’s nice and icy? But you are right; it would be amazing to sit and watch the power of the sea, especially with some nice hot coffee and something good to munch on.

I have driven this road in MUCH worse weather many years ago in the late autumn. Then it was a PROPER storm and no one had closed it. The weather was so bad that sea threw rocks up to 20-25 kilo onto the road in parts of it and my car got totally covered by seawater many times during the drive over it I had to drive very slowly to avoid hitting the rocks on the road that could damage my car and I had to make sure to drive at the edge towards the weather to be more "sure" that the wind and waves would not push my car off the road. That night this road was really dangerous. I think this was in 1989 when the road was new. 1st of January 1992 the weather was much worse and then the road was closed and got even more damage to it. Then it was a massive hurricane that was the worst weather ever measured in Norway that destroyed a LOT along much of the Norwegian west coast. This road is at the open sea with no protection from the storms that come rather frequently in the autumn and the winter. This road is general not dangerous and if they have started to be better at closing it when the weather gets worse than shown in this video, then it is never dangerous anymore. But I guess people feel the need to make click baits to get views...

The Norwegian name is "Atlanterhavsveien". Its purpose is to connect Averøya to the mainland, and it was opened in 1989. It does happen that the road closes due to weather, but it's rare as it has no infrastructure to close automatically or remotely. So people need to go and physically block it. When it comes to accidents, I have only heard about normal traffic accidents that can happen anywhere, and people outside the cars acting recklessly (falling off bridges or standing too close to the water in bad weather)
