Manchester Town Hall is magnificent. I've been privileged to go into the bell tower when the bells were being rung for a wedding and also look after the last water powered lift/elevator that worked on the water system

This is a very tantalising video. Years ago, there was immense municipal pride, and the towns and cities vied with each other to build magnificent Town Halls. Manchester Town Hall is one of the grand-daddies! It must be one of the greatest bits of Victorian architecture in the world, although I have not seen it; this video has showed little of the magnificence. I was born in what is now Greater Manchester. (Did you notice his accent? I'm pretty sure that's the Manchester accent.) But I moved from there as a kid, and I spent many years in Birmingham, which also has magnificence, in two buildings, the Council House and Town Hall.

He has a north Mcr accent to my ear as someone from there originally, so I am assuming towards Oldham, or Ashton-u-Lyne.

Made me smile and remember when you said I built these for ten years, I only had two years building palettes here in the UK, about 40 years ago and haven't thought sbout that for decades 🙂 I do think its cool how we preserve historical stuff like this and I enjoyed watching you react to this, you have a good appreciation for historical buildings and events.

Hi, very interesting. The rooms inside are magnificent and worth a look at. There's many other fine buildings and institutions in Manchester. John Rylands Library is very interesting. The Town Hall is being fully renovated and is expected to be completed summer 2026. It was opened in 1877.

Its a nice building for sure, shame the rest of Manchester is a stinking crime ridden dump.
