The writers of Porridge also wrote a classic comedy drama in the 80's/90's called 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet'

Sitcoms had such power back then, in terms of audience numbers, that it was easy to forget what other shows people had been in. Fulton Mackay (who was even up for Dr Who at one point) had been a very serious actor, in things like 'Special Branch'. And he later starred alongside another British comedy great, Norman Wisdom, in a desperately serious role that showed the mettle of both of them.

He was also the lighthouse keeper in Fraggle Rcck, if you remember that.

The beauty of English is you can make up words. I've never heard of dischuffed before either but makes perfect sense 😅

Happy birthday Megan ! Great reaction video, love Porridge. Have a great day 👍🎉🎉😂🥳🥂🎁

What's nice in the interplay between Barker and Beckinsale is how two characters can be that close (as indeed the actors seemed to be) and yet there is this wall of British male cynicism. It's curiously close to the relationship between me and my older brother. Sometimes it's like hitting a wall. But he's also, somehow, my hero.

Hi Megan. I think you would like Open All Hours which is another UK comedy. xx

I think it a matter overlooking and asking yourself, they aren't that much of an idiot to put in the obvious place and believing the person be more crafty.

Happy Birthday Megan. 🥳🎉🎂🍾 Dischuffed was invented by the writers of Porridge according to the OED. I use it a lot. 😁 Have you watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? It is said to be a work of genius. The TV series, not the movie. That was awful. 🤢

Do you know where "Chuffed" comes from!
@veryvarley67065 ай бұрын
Chuffed is an odd bit of slang. Chuffed = happy/pleased. Chuff = someone that is rude Chuff also means a lady part --- tighter than a gnats chuff -- Chuff also the noise big cats like tigers make -- Chuffing as in chuffing hell or chuffing Nora is a synonym for bloody meaning an expression of annoyance/anger/surprise. It is practically a Swiss army knife of words.

I didn't know that! I always thought it just meant happy/pleased. Interesting!

A chuff chuff choo choo is a train, a chough is a black bird with red bill and legs. I once saw a chiff chaff chuffed with a chaffinch and a chough.

I think it's a bit more basic than that! I don't know when or where it came to mean female genitalia, go-ogle that!
