My Great-Grandfather Cpl FIFIELD Issac of the 1st Newfoundland BEF fought at Gallipoli The Somme and Beaumont-Hamel, for which the 1st Newfoundland received Full Battle Honours. The 1st Newfoundland was the only Regiment of Foot within the British Army to receive the “Royal”prefix for Valour during WWI, becoming the Royal Newfoundland Regiment by order of the King in the summer of 1915 at Stobo Camp near Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland 🏴. This was because Newfoundland didn’t join the Canadian Confederation 🇨🇦 until 1932, and was still a British 🇬🇧 Colonial Outpost 1914-18.

It was a great pilgrimage and nice to see so many regiments represented - Canadian Scottish, Calgary Highlanders, British Columbia Regiment are all visible in the video.

My grandad was Winnipeg Rifles in WWI, Canadian Scottish in WWII. I have a great photo of him in kilt dress before shipping out.

I lead Remembrance every year for Wales and Woody.EXE attended for the first time in November as Wales’s longest serving monarch and I’ll be his longest serving Queen, I’ve predicted a 80 years reign

Very enjoyable video. I recognized Scotland the Brave in the second part of the film but I was wondering what the tune was in the first part.

thank you for sharing your video....You don't get to see much of the parade when you are looking forward all the time. Cpl. Swan

James Swan Thanks James! The final resolution is disappointing. Two other videos (each 7 minutes) are searchable at "Canadian Scottish Regiment WW1 ceremonies 2015 -2" and "Canadian Scottish Regiment WW1 banquets 2015 -3". -Bill

I don't know what went wrong with the resolution...I didn't take the video because I was in the parade, this is how it turned out at the end.

Cute skirts...can't believe these guys aren't embarrassed wearing those things. Q: Why do Scots have no zippers? A: Their sheep can hear them from a mile away.
@Canadian-Asian-dude Жыл бұрын
Why would they be embarrassed? These aren’t “skirts”, rather “kilts”. These are scottish highland traditional clothing and have become a large part of commonwealth military traditions.

How on earth can Canadians have a Scottish regiment? I bet many have never even been to Scotland, certainly NOT Scottish.
@rogerm3767 Жыл бұрын
There is a simple answer to your question. Read up on the history of Canada.
@suzannehaigh4281 Жыл бұрын
@@rogerm3767 Not very simple if you have to "read it up". Not living in Scotland, not contributing to Scotland, not knowledgeable about Scottish history of life, yep just like the Americans

My great-grandfather served with the 1st Newfoundland BEF during WWI and was billeted in Ayr, then Edinburgh, Scotland 🏴. After the Great War, he married a Scottish lass, settled in Edinburgh, before ending his days in Burntisland, Fife, Scotland 🏴. The 1st Newfoundland fought within ‘29 Brigade’ headed up by the Royal Scots (Regiment of Foot) whose Headquarters were (and still are) based at Edinburgh Castle 🏰. Interesting I myself was to serve many years later with ‘29 Brigade” as a Sapper with 71 (Scottish) Engineer Regiment RE(V). Cpl FIFIELD Isaac hailed from Bonavista NL, and was a Primary School Teacher in Bonavista NL 🇨🇦.
