Not really worried about a cane for self defense but considering this one as a nice , tough walking stick to carry when hiking and looking for herps. It looks like a good design for hooking and flipping debris, tailing or pinning snakes plus can be used as an actually walking stick.

Just found this video and wanted to thank you for it. I like that you covered the weight of the cane. That was one of the things I wanted to know before buying it. I do use a cane to walk with most of the time, due to both knees being bad (luckily not usually giving me trouble at the same time). I am sorry for the lose of your blackthorn. I lost my favorite hickory crook cane the same way. Keep up the good work.

the axe head cane is meant to be gripped with the axe facing forward so that the pressure you apply is directly on the top of the cane shaft - my brother has 1 he loves it
@CanadianCuttingEdge7 жыл бұрын
I grip it the way it works best for my hands. I have had medical reason to use a cane for 20 years now. So if they designed it for the other way around then the average hand is quite different than mine, OR they did not design it for people who NEED a cane for walking - which makes complete sense, people who NEED a cane should use a proper cane for the most part. Also, with my index finger around the front my weight is very close to directly through the shaft, if my index finger was behind then it would not work as well. For other readers: it is important to have the weight as straight down the shaft as possible because it affects the grip at the foot of the cane - quite significantly.

i walk with a cane too on occasion due to some old injuries. and you're right about how to use a cane properly, i had to look up a video on how to use it, and you described it quite well.
@CanadianCuttingEdge4 жыл бұрын
Yes. it is very important for anyone using a cane, especially for the long term to use it correctly. I just wish TV and movie directors would figure it out, I am sure a lot of people have extra pain just because they copy what they see others doing incorrectly.

I just ordered one and I'm going to sand it to a shine and make the shaft slightly more comfortable. That's the only modification I can think to make the shaft just looks so unwieldy

Cool. I kept mine for about 4 years and only sold it recently for someone else to enjoy. I ordered a cane length Shillelagh from the town of Shillelagh Ireland to take it's place, it should arrive in a couple of weeks. oldeshillelagh.com/

Good vid. Common misconception about the firearm thing though. From what I understand you’re allowed to have a firearm in national parks, you just have to make sure not to go into any bathrooms while you’re there lol, as it’s buildings on federal land that you’re prohibited from carrying in. At least in the US that is.
@CanadianCuttingEdge3 жыл бұрын
In Canada this is the law for National Parks as far as guns are concerned: No person shall be in possession of a firearm in a park unless the firearm is not loaded and is transported in a case or is wrapped and tied securely in such a manner that no part of the firearm is exposed. One of the main reason they allow carrying a gun in a park is because in some places the only way to get from A to B is through a national park. For example, going from British Columbia to Alberta, Where I live, I would have to take a VERY long detour down to Hwy 3 by the Crowsnest Pass or up well north of Edmonton, because the main 3 routes I could use are all through National Parks.

I'm after that CS City Stick or their Blackthorn copy. I have normal walking stick. I use it after serious seizure. My right side goes almost paralyzed after those. I use in my stick at rather long wrist band. Stays tied on it's owner even if I have sudden seizure in the street...

Ahh, yes, the City Stick is very nice. I also like the looks of the African Walking Stick that they have. IF you are a tall fella then maybe even the Dragon Walking Stick or if super tall then the Steven Seagal Ten Shin at 44" (1.11m) is great. in any case, Cold Steel sure makes a lot of choices for virtually indestructible walking sticks.

Weighs less than my Ka-Bar. Looks pretty good. Hows the bite on the hand using it on concrete floors? I used a paracord wrap on the Ka-Bar handle for a better grip and ease on the hand.
@CanadianCuttingEdge7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there are some knives that weigh a lot. The issue is that you have to do a very particular repetative movement for every step and then the weight gets to be a lot, but that is ONLY true for guys like me who NEED a cane to walk around. Concrete floors are so variable, some have texture, like a sidewalk - it works fine there; but on a smooth concrete you really do need to install a rubber style foot or it won't get any reasonable traction.
@gordonstevenson5357 жыл бұрын
I was referring to my Ka-Bar cane, about 2lb. `Though I also wrap all my wood cane handles. Ka-Bar Knives TDI Self Defense Cane. Weight is approximately 2.15 lb.

Great review Jake! It's a little hard to tell, but is the entire shaft round? The Cold Steel Steven Segal stick appears rectangular or oval, but not sure about this one. The bottom tip is apparently round, but is the rest of the shaft the same as the bottom tip? Thanks!
@CanadianCuttingEdge7 жыл бұрын
Great question, I should have covered that info. no, the shaft isn't round, except at the very tip, the first 3 or 4 inches are round. After that the sides are flat. That is if you hold the cane as you would any other cane, the side next to your body and the side away from your body are flat-ish.

Kari Kuosa Can always sheath the Sjambok in a piece of tubing, get some rubber between for a friction fit, finish by rolling/blunting the edge on the bottom end, and adding a rubber foot. Then it's a decent walking stick, and a left-hand blocker and Sjambok in one.

$29 dollars and now in 2023 these are £60 pounds in Britain. That’s $78 dollars. Sick of rip off britain.
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
USA always gets better prices for such things. The Canadian price is between USA and Britain but in Canada the tax is not included in the listed price as it is in the UK (so we have to add it later in the purchase process, and your taxes are quite a bit more which further jacks the price up) I looked further and found it for less for you at www.blades.co.uk/product/cold-steel-axe-head-cane-cs-91pcax/ Keep looking, you might find an even better deal.
