Been in Naval Reserves for almost a year now, the info in this video is accurate. Wish they focused more on reserves in this video as it was mostly regular force. You do become fast friends and family, and you learn pretty quickly how to support each other. Some of the best skills I've learned so far is how to take initiative, teach fellow team members, and how to be responsible for others. Not to mention detail orientation! The military teaches you life skills better than any other workplace will, and quickly. You will be pushed past your limits, and it will want to make you quit, but you'll be better for it. These skills will apply everywhere, and you'll still have them long after you leave the military (should you choose to). Though the annual fitness tests aren't anywhere near as crazy as the American military's, it will still kick your butt if you think you can do it from nothing. If you plan to join, your life will be much easier if you start getting fit at least a couple months before. You'll have more endurance for basic training and beyond, and you won't be as tired. Highly recommend to get decent at running.

I applied a while back, did the initial entry level tests, was going for Combat Engineer, until I learned the wages are not at all what they should be, and your pension is constantly being less and less thanks to our government. I found I was much better off to become RCMP, however that wasn't what I wanted, then I learned about CBSA and am now in the application process. Not trying to discourage any of you, but just make sure prior to signing up that you are getting what your time is worth.

I think Trudeau said it best. Our wounded soldiers and veterans are on their own because they cost to much $$$$ to take care of. So join the armed forces at your own risk. If you get ptsd or are injured then do your research about veteran affairs. You are not covered like you may think you are. But to each their own. If you can accept the risks then join up. If you can't accept the risks then stay a civilian.

No. I am just pointing out the facts and giving a quote from our current PM. If you think joining the military is all fun and games then talk to a vet. Ask a vet how they were treated once they left the forces. Then ask a wounded vet how they were treated. The government treats their vets like they are worthless cannon fodder. But like I said. If you can accept that if you become a wounded vet you will be tossed away like human garbage then sign up. Just watch news highlights on how our soldiers are being treated. Canada DOES NOT treat our wounded very well at all... in fact we treat ISIS terrorist fighters better than our vets. They at least get poetry classes and other stuff. Lol

I've been doing more fighting for my pension than I ever did in 12 years in the Canadian Forces. Canada is a joke. Do not make the mistake of joining the Canadian military. I served in Germany, Cyprus, Norway and all across Canada. My rank upon retirement was Warrant Officer. I was in the reserves but did call outs with the reg force which is why I got promoted rather quickly. I know a guy who was a pilot and he has to go to a food bank in order to make ends meet. There are other opportunities out there for young people. Do not be taken in by this propaganda. The Trudeau "government " does not care about the military. It is a self serving criminal organization. Hope this helps young Canadians from one who served.

@@jerryberry3501 Our food was better. The Americans always had state of the art equipment coming out of their ass. It was unbelievable the kit they had. I once traded 10 Canadian ration packs or RAT packs ( our equivalent of their MRE s ) for a pair of jungle boots which were waterproof. It didn't matter how much silicone we put on our Canadian boots your feet were soaked almost immediately if you were in a swamp environment. The Brits were out of control when on leave here in Canada where they train regularly to this day. I remember them getting barred from whole towns but as far as soldiering they were second to none. All told I would take the Canadian Forces to serve in any day. It's just the shit you have to go through once your time is up and you get out and deal with veteran's Affairs and all kinds of other political nonsense. I could go on for hours about this . Since Papa Trudeau was elected in 1968 it seemed that he was on some sort of a mission to destroy the Canadian military. Once again I could write a book. I'm just saying that if you do join be prepared for a lot of bullshit and a lot of good times as well. Just remember Canadian politicians hate the military especially the Trudeau "government" that is presently in power hopefully for not much longer. Cheers..

Been there, got the T shirt. We have more farking general/admirals than special forces personnel. Our "naval" vessels are a fleet of antiques, our tanks are decades old and we just bought a bunch of hand me down F-18s from the Aussies that are older than the ones we should be retiring. Did I mention the 4 "Victoria" class submarines that the Brits sold us ? Apparently, they are dangerous when submerged. It's "exciting" all right but, not in the way you might think.

Hi smith , for some perspective When I was in the reserves in the 60/s in MTL p.q. we trained with weapons from WW2 . we had sten guns from the uk , grenades, a .50 caliber bren machine gun , and the trusty Nato FN c1 rifle with bayonet . All our uniforms were exactky like our british counterparts . Wool battledress, putees , and a navy coloured beret with a brass grenade insignia. . We pulled out MK 2 radios from ww 2 tanks, that weighed a ton, and set up field operations in rural que.. Slept in ww2 tents and had lots of fun 6 th battalion cdn grenadier guards. Now defunct
