Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into these videos! I'm currently in the middle of searching for a 4th Gen 4Runner after owning a base model 3rd Gen (still cranking up my windows manually, haha). My 3rd Gen has made it to 420K, but I'm looking to future-proof and get a bit more comfort out of my next vehicle. Your videos have been by far the biggest help in deciding whether to make the switch, as well as understanding what to look for and what to look forward to when it comes to modding. They’re super entertaining and incredibly well done. Thanks again for all that you do! Fellow Canadian from Vancouver, BC.

Mine's been ticking since I bought it, 8 years ago and I've never failed an emission test or anything. I just learned to live with it. The truck runs butter smooth and I have no complains! I don't think the ticking is a big deal.

Just got long tube headers with y pipe kit installed on my v8 4runner. If you don't need to pass emissions, this is the way to go, there is a spacer kit for the 02 sensors and a titanium bolt kit available online. Plus no welding.

Great point about not having to weld!

My crack manifold makes exhaust come out in the engine bay. I get the cat code every month. Makes my interior smell toxic as hell. Exhaust place told me it would be $1892 to replace, but what would be a good replacement, one that won't crack again.
@wojtek-333 ай бұрын
The DT headers are on their website for sale. They are $1100. In the US, OEM manifold/cat is less than $600 per side on ToyotaPartsDeal or $650 each from the dealer.

Mine started ticking about a year ago. I have been trying to find a shop that will fix it since. I've called 20+ shops in my area and all but 2 wouldn't even give me a bid. They all just said "No". . The two bids I did get were $6k and $8k (both sides, parts and labor). They all gave the same excuse: "The job calls for 15 hours, but we'll make way more money taking fifteen 1 hour jobs instead of tying up our bay for 2 days". I understand their position, and I would probably say the same thing. If it fails emissions in April, I'll likely just end up selling it. I am not paying $6000 for exhaust manifolds. It's going to break my heart.
@CanadianGearhead3 ай бұрын
That sucks to hear. Did you try a more performance oriented shop? I can understand how a regular mechanic might not want to touch it but someone that's used to working on race cars shouldn't have a problem doing it.

Have someone weld the cracks on the vehicle. Find a small independent shop or welder.

@evankirschenmann46533 ай бұрын
Mine just cracked at 202k miles. I have pretty extensive service history from previous owners, and it hasn’t been serviced before. Honestly not a bad lifetime for the header. My mechanic advised me against the aftermarket options due to his previous experience where a customer had bought a DT header and had a leaky flange.

As a broke college kid I can get 2 oem manifolds for 1150 and the only shop that would do the job in my area quoted me 500 for labor. I would love DT longtube headers but I have to worry ab emissions. Getting shorties and having them weld on the cats would add onto the labor if they could even do it. I’m going oem and hoping they last me until my car is 25 and I don’t have to worry about emissions. For now that’s the cheapest option for me.

I have a 2005 4Runner V8. Is it possible to completely remove the secondary air injection system(I worry about it going into limp mode if I'm on the interstate)? the pump and everything? Also I'm new to the 4runner since I just got it, are there active forums you recommend joining?

@@CanadianGearheadI did see that video but was curious if after it was installed if you could take the system out. My SAI tubes completely rotted out and DT would not warranty them. Now not only do I have the ticking sound back, worse than ever, but I also have terrible exhaust fumes in the vehicle. We have to drive with the windows open in all weather. Not a fan of these headers.
@ace79123 ай бұрын
the irony of gubmint trying to regulate problems away sometimes making them worse.. the raw exhaust is venting to atmosphere. i guess its not as much as no cats on every vehicle, but still reminds me of the thicker "reusable" grocery store bags ultimately just using more plastic
