New Can Am owner and solo rider!! For years, I've been a backseat princess on Harley bikes. Thank you so much for this video. I didn't even know what that key holder was?? The dealership only gave me 1 key, so I am going to make a backup one, too, just in case. I LOVE my 2017 Spyder!!! With every drive, I'm feeling more comfortable and confident. 😊

I haven't met a Spyder owner yet who doesn't love their Spyder. When you only have one key, don't even think about losing it because you would have to replace the whole ignition switch assembly, just buying 1 key is already pricey enough. Welcome to the fun family of Spydering ✌️😁👍

I’ve been looking at those key holders and I agree…no hole is crazy. I’ve seen where people drill a hole in it with success but I would not attempt that. I always have the extra key myself and when the wife is with me, she has it. I thought it was more expensive than that for a new key. Good info Wayne!

Hi Wayne ! Absolutely….. I always travel with a spare key (one of the top 5 must haves during a trip) and when I travel with my friend we keep each other’s spare key as a second level of safety. As far as the Spider key …. Yeah I can see the issue of not having a hole to attach to a keychain. (The key holder is definitely a good way around kit) Cheers amigo

Nice shirt I have one just like that! You can never have too many keys 🔑. It went through your laundry. Man that is a messed up key! Even my Harley has an opening but I always keep one on my key ring. That’s highway robbery! Spyder should really design a different key that has an opening. I've drilled a hole for a keyring in every Spyder key I've ever had back to 2012. The transponder is in the center of the rubber grip. Just use a small hole close to the end of the key like every other key ever made, and put a ring in it.

Like many others, I don't understand Why Can Am, hasn't fixed this problem by now. I mean how hard would it be to design a loop with a hole in it? It wouldn't cost anything to change this problem. All these simple annoying little flaws on the Spyder, would be easily fixed, and wouldn't cost much to make it happen. I just don't get it, on such a premium brand. ☹️🤔. Thank you so much for your kind words. The Spyder is still a wonderful machine, and a joy to ride, in spite of it's many flaws, and there are quite a few flaws or what many would describe as "what were they thinking" type issues. Sticker reflectors, a crazy BRP Connect system with pay to play apps that aren't popular, loose mirrors on the 2020 RT's, a 20 to 30 minute series of steps just to check the oil.. yet I have no regrets and still love my Spyder 😁👍👍

@kellyobrien13872 жыл бұрын
Much easier solution! (I have a 2012 Spyder RT) Carefully and at the very TOP of the key... DRILL A SMALL HOLE... JUST big enough to fit a ring through. I have two keys with a small hole to be on a ring and they have no issues. Actually when I bought it one key already had a hole punched into it but it was very rough, so I took my very small SAW bit, yeah, the sides of the bit have teeth! It was small and just big enough to allow a ring to pass through there after I made the hole smooth and could pass the ring through the top and no expensive or bulky crap to hold the key. It works. I have discovered that many have done this with no issues. Right at the top of the "V" in the key. Don't shoot me if you try this and you damage a chip inside.
@SpyderWayne2 жыл бұрын
It's a very good and detailed comment. I had considered drilling the keys after watching other videos about it, but chose not to risk it. The easiest solution is really for BRP to use a FOB (no key at all). Thank you for watching 😁👍👍

Here's a link to a video that shows the easiest way to remove the passenger seat (this is done in the first minute of this video). kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYnYhJ-XjdR1mdk You don't need to lift the driver's seat for this method. Turning your key to the right ONLY releases the driver's seat, but NOT the passenger seat.

@SpyderWayne6 ай бұрын
@talhademir3241 The plastic sheath/sleeve comes with the key from Can-Am with each key. If you lose that sheath/sleeve, you could try calling around to local Can-Am dealers to see if they have any. BRP Can-Am does NOT show this sheath/sleeve in the accessories shown on their website. A more expensive option is to buy a new key from a dealer, and it will come with that sheath/sleeve, but that will be a costly option.
