Spyder bad key fixed!

This does work !! I have a 2014 RT Limited with 8800 miles on it. Went to ride it Sat morning and I got a DESS message showing a picture of a key. All I did was wrap some tin foil around the ignition ring where key goes and it started. I did not take anything apart. Worked several times for me !!!!

Your video gave me the idea to push the key in all the way as I turned it, bringing the key head about 5 millimetres closer to the coil, which fixed the bad key problem. Both keys had failed multiple times but she fired up straight away. Thanks heaps.

Good to know. Only thing I'd change is to go with metal duct tape instead of foil.

The real problem is the DESS module is getting weaker and WILL fail and leave you stranded. This tinker with the antenna is a good hack when you are stranded but will not fix this permanently. The real solution is to turn DESS off and never worry with it again.

I had one instance this morning when I went to start machine the error came up turned key off one time and then it started. Went to my dealer this morning and talked about this and they said they have not heard of this and have not even changed out the DESS module. They are a good sized dealer in Kodak,TN Mountain Motor Sports. If you want I have a notice/ bulletin that I got from SpyderLovers.com regarding this issue I would be happy to send it to you. Don't have one of these yet, been considering one. Reading up on problems that have cropped up on these. Reliability and such.

@@JoshHefnerX They are good machines the 2014 and 2015 have these DESS issues I do not think it is a major issue and is something that can be fixed. A good source of info and you can post answers and questions is Spyderlovers.com and also Lamonstergarage.com Both are very good hope that helps

This actually worked for me I did not take apart the ignition just wrapped a little tin foil around the trim ring for the key insert and it started and has worked ever since. This was just Sat Aug 17 that it messed up

thanks a lot. trouble today with a '14 RS-S Sportster self fixed after leaving it - had had a flodded garage just prior with a lot of standing water under trike - do not believe a coincidece !
