And tbh I agree a lot with that thought...if your IQ is 150 you didn't work hard to get that you just were born with a huge advantage. 100 years ago, it USED to be a merit system. Then other minorities were angered bc they saw that universities were being filled with rich white kids (who DID have the merit bc their parents could pay to send them to elite private schools where the education is undoubtedly better) and asians who excelled at STEM. So they changed it. And now the kids i teach, most of whom are korean and have perfect sat scores cant get into places like MIT bc the colleges need to meet their woke diversity quota. If it changes back to the merit system, i can almost guarantee the same thing will happen again in a neverending cycle.

Genuine question: Is it more insulting than if you were not having your merit seen at all? If there's too many white people with merit and your merit doesn't even get seen, would you still think the same? I believe you are correct. I'm white and I am old enough to remember that back in the day, if you went to a hospital and saw a black doctor in the emergency room, you would think "Wow, this guy must be super brilliant. He overcame all that discrimination and still got through medical school. I want him (or her) to treat me." I do not advocate going back to the days of discrimination, but today some people (even black people) are scared (hopefully for no reason) that a black doctor might have gotten an easy path to the MD just because he was black. I think there are enough smart black people to excel at difficult professions if we mainly stand out of their way, providing some encouragement and financial assistance if necessary, just as we do for everyone else. Just my humble opinion.

What you wish for is simply untenable and quite frankly very weird. What you should want is people of any racial, ethnic or other composition competing at the top and being judged on the merit of their achievements so that these individuals whatever they may be end up towing the line of technological and scientific progress. You know, the reason they added the 3rd section to the SAT was also because of progressive leftist BS. They added a 3rd section, a 2nd literary one, to make it out of 2400 so as to de-emphasize math and therefore help females because men beat the pants off of women in math every single year, even now, and they wanted to artificially elevate women's scores relative to men.

My fellow people, from the same race and religion, have had it worse ever since that incident in the early 2000s and YET we’re STILL the best in the fields we study and have the highest degrees WITHOUT any program help. Merit based hiring is the only true fair and equal way to hire people.

Per the data, the system is already lop-sided if certain races are born into socioeconomically disenfranchised situations whereby they receive less income, less tools at an early age, less educational attainment, fewer words spoken to them during the day by their parents on average, less interaction among like groups of socioeconomically enfranchised, fewer job opportunities, more police arrests per capita, fewer opportunities to establish learning and economic feedback loops in general to help them grow. It turns "merit" into a concept that relies on the status quo, and while merit certainly exists in principle, and "value" exists, you're not truly hiring on merit if someone that has been born to such a difficult situation is not being looked at for the amount of effort they've put in and the amount of ground they've had to cover, and forevermore an ostensibly "merit-based system" become a never-ending process of unfairness that, on a statistical basis, remains based on the color of one's skin and the surrounding experience and circumstances that person is born into. When the deck is stacked, you aim to correct the problem rather than reinforce it and suggest it is "fair" whilst turning a blind eye to context.

@@niarazu3883- This line of thinking is very marxist. It operates under the assumption that everyone should start on equal ground and that there should be equal outcomes. The ultimate flaw in this assumption is that it is a utopian expectation. Utopian thinking ignores many things such as human aptitude, human nature, truth, and reality. And because it is based on lies, that makes it morally unjust and evil. The problem with so-called progressive thinkers on the left is that they feel what they are trying to accomplish is virtuous and just. However, in reality it is the propagation of living a lie and therefore it is truly evil.
