Jurassic Park is one of the greatest films of the 1990's and one of my favourite of all time. Of course such an iconic film spawned an ever growing billion dollar franchise of more movies. But those films weren't exactly smooth rides and some were even changed weeks before shooting began. So join me as I explore the insane route of never made movies and the cancelled films in the Jurassic Park franchise.

What struck me about "Jurassic Park 3" was that it used the two best passages from the original "Jurassic Park" novel that didn't make it into the first two films: the river chase with the Spinosaurus replacing the T. rex from the novel and the escape sequence in the pterosaur aviary. The rest of the film looked like an excuse to use those scenes.

I don't like the direction these films went either. Personally, this may be an unpopular idea, but I would love to see a slower, more personal film as a sequel. Something in the style and tone of Cast Away, but with the wonder of exploring the Mezasoic. Focus on character, update the look of the dinosaurs, and use animatronics whereever possible. I'll never see this kind of dinosaur movie, but one can dream.

The first Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies of all time. I always thought the ending of the second movie was a little weird that Vince Vaughn just sorta disappears, but other than that, I actually really like Lost World. The Jurassic World movies are fun for kids but I don't care as much for those, but they're still entertaining, although Fallen Kingdom's ending is not good. Jurassic Park 3 is probably my second least favorite but I still enjoy Sam Neill's performance.

Personally I would like to see them develop a midquel that takes place at same time as the original Jurassic Park. The Telltale Jurassic Park game did that and it was an interesting approach. I think one of the things that turns people off from "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" is the tonal shift, not just between it and the first "Jurassic World" but also within the movie itself. It starts out like an amalgamation of "The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park III", saving the dinosaurs from destruction, but then it takes a left turn into a disaster movie mixed with horror, then a weirdly dark thriller-type movie, and then into full-throttle sci-fi dino-horror with dark lighting and a bombastic and dark (but awesome) musical score. It shifts so much that it's off-putting.

Ian C well-regarding your mention of the implication of human cloning/splicing with Human AND dinosaur DNA in your comment-SOMEONE over at InGen (in-universe) either has a _serious death wish/God complex..or probably was getting A LIL'BIT TOO MUCH into his or her work while getting stoned and/or reading/watching The island of Doctor Moreau a BIT too much over here,honestly..Or both. What-Is InGen pulling some sort-of secret human DNA trafficking ring in the background while all the/this *Jurassic World_*_-shit's going on,huh? I did like some parts of Jurassic World, but all the movies could have been made so much better (movies 2-5). In my opinion, if any more Jurassic Park movies are going to be made, they should watch the 1st one. They should do something with regards to what happened after those who survived got off the island, what happened to those dinosaurs. Something like that.

Now "Jurassic World" is say is ALMOST there: I have a few gripes with it (I'm looking at *you,* Zara's death scene), but I overall liked the concepts it presented (mainly the 'working theme park' one), and I thought the new characters brought their own unique charm to it. "Fallen Kingdom" on the other hand I would say is truly good...but not great.

The dinosaur/human hybrid idea was actually used in Universal Resort Orlando's halloween event Halloween Horror Nights back In 2002. Jurassic Park became "JP Extinction" with a haunted house called "Project: Evilution" where human experiments with Dino DNA created monsters that broke loose and wreaked havoc. Scientists fused with dilophosaurus and raptor DNA were scene through out the park.

"Jurassic Planet": Dinos fully escape containment, infest entire world over several decades. Humanity is now no longer top of the food chain, lives in fortress cities, travel by underground rail tunnels. Plot revolves around expeditionary team sent out into ruins of old cities now overgrown with nature & overrun with dinos in search of wealthy client's runaway daughter. Sequel involves organized military campaign against dinosaurs in an attempt to exterminate them from the North American continent. Explores ethics of intentionally wiping out species, human coexistence with nature, and visual spoofs on the border wall (this one being designed to keep dinosaurs out of freshly emptied regions). I'd include giant mechs designed to fight dinos here but that would be stepping on Pacific Rim's toes. Part 3 takes place thousands of years into the future, following the fall of human civilization to a plague which afflicts humans, but not dinosaurs. The remainder of humanity has long since regressed to a paleolithic way of life and live alongside/in fear of dinosaurs. Plot revolves around members of such a tribe uncovering lost technologies and coming to learn that humans and dinosaurs did not always exist contemporaneously. You're welcome, 1 million dollars please

The dinosaur/human hybrids would've tied in perfectly with Jurassic Park III. See, when Alan dreams about the talking raptor that says "Alan," it could've been a sort of foreshadowing, a vision of what was to come. So in the fourth film, Alan starts dreaming about talking dinosaurs with increasing frequency, and he comes to the conclusion that it all means something, unaware that geneticists are creating dinosaurs crossed with humans. At one point, Alan even dreams of a dinosaur wearing glasses, which begins laughing like Ian Malcom. Alan wakes up in a cold sweat, traumatized by what he's just seen. Man, what couldve been!

Because originally there were raptors onboard as well. They were the ones that killed the crew but for some reason all that got cut. So they left it with a bunch of unexplained dead people in a boat.

don't question when the director really wants something to happen but has to rejigger the pieces a little..... this is why continuity is important in a film and why changing the ending almost on the day is folly and never works..... JJ Abrams really should take lessons, as should Kathleen Kennedy.....

I thought it was because it got halfway out and gnawed on them from partway still inside? Then the doors were closed again after one guy was able to press the button before being yanked in? Now that I’m explaining it I think I agree they probably just cut the raptors lmao Idk. Maybe Trex’s are really really flexible. You never know.

I think one thing people often forget is that there are no real dinosaurs in any of the Jurassic park movies. They have always been genetically modified animals (monsters). For the story to progress to make them bigger and more domesticated makes sense. I’ve never had a problem that they would become military weapons even if it’s very different from the first movie.

There were some great lines in Jurassic Park 3, and I think most were WH Macy's... the one about "No I'm not a millionaire but if you guys ever need a bathroom or a shower remodeled..." and "you mean there's more than 1 island with dinosaurs?"... Jurassic Park 3 was new territory without a book behind it, and it didn't need to take itself too seriously. After hearing all the details in this video about all that went on behind the scenes I have even more respect for it now.

The Jurassic World movies pretend Jurassic Park 2 and 3 never happened. There never was a site B, the Park just got reworked and opened eventually and worked. The genetic hybrid dinosaurs WOULD have been the next step in that world because everyone at InGen was stupid. They have toyed with it because the whole series is about the hubris of messing with things best left dead as God wanted it and the folly of science. And none of the Dinosaurs in the movie even should look that way, they just made them to look that way because that is what the public think Dinosaurs looked like. They were big birds people, they should have feathers and everything. But in reality, I think a Dinosaur park would be just safe and fine, Zoo's rarely have issues, I'm sure we could adjust, lawyers aren't stupid and they would never want a law suit, they would make sure 10 times over things would be safe for insurance reasons. And the military wouldn't want Dinosaurs for the same fucking reason we don't use Dogs, Horses, and Elephants in combat anymore. Machines are more reliable, don't need to be fed or trained. But Hollywood doesn't understand what they are writing, or what they want to write. They are looking for disaster/action movies, when these could be complicated.

I think it would be interesting to see a horror movie like that but it definitely wouldn’t appeal to as many people as Jurassic park. One of the animotrinic guys from the 2nd film had several heads and full (smaller) dinosaurs displayed at a Halloween maze in a church basement in north Chicago in the mid-late 90's. I remember being left in awe over seeing them in person and barely entered the maze, just choosing to hangout with the dinos. Super cool story about a terrible reprisal of Jurassic Park.

I am one of the few that actually liked 3 better than 2. 2 got too convoluted in my opinion. The storyline of 1 was very straightforward, and I felt 3 was the same way. As such, I thought of 3 as a more direct sequel to the original than 2. It may have been interesting to see a film with 3's original concept, but I like how they were able to release an actual decent film with 3 despite its many production issues. It's a pretty good thing that 4 was really never produced, although some of the elements ended up in the first World. While World was certainly entertaining (probably more so than 2 & 3), I agree with you that the overuse of CGI made it far inferior to the original movie in my opinion. And the second World was just cringy to me from beginning to end. I just didn't like that movie at all and I've only seen it once. The only reason I'm looking forward at all to the next World is because of the return of most of the original characters. Since Nublar was supposedly destroyed in World 2, I'm assuming they're retiring to Sorna for World 3?
