Because I am always checking bags I arrange to be at the airport 3 hours prior to departure. Most of the time I am chilling a the gate for a bit but a couple of times I had to hustle to a plane already boarding. My pro tip is this -- the food at the airport is really pricey, so we always bring stuff from the resort that we can eat at the airport or in the air. Everything in the minibar is yours. And we bring some sandwich bags on the trip and either get something from the coffee shop or from room service. No problems getting through security. We do buy some overpriced bottles of water but it's better than dropping benjamin's for bad airport burgers.

In the Cancun airport, even after your gate has been assigned, it's wise to check the board from time to time. They changed our gate 20 minutes before our flight departed and told no one. They did post it on the board, however. We nearly missed our flight because of it.

We went mid-February, and the airport was total chaos and super busy on a Saturday afternoon when our flight was scheduled out. So happy you can travel on off times. 😊 We live in an area where flight times are more limited, but we’re still excited to be able to spend time in such a beautiful location in the winter when it’s cold at home. We’ve been going to Cancun for many years and have seen the changes in the airport, which are really nice. It’s cold here today, so I’m already looking forward to next Feb or March. 🎉

Yes flight time does make a huge difference! I was there first week of April with morning flights coming and going so it wasn't too bad but still busy at the best of times. Hopefully once the new Tulum airport gets into full swing it will ease some of the volume at Cancun as I would imagine in the coming months more and more people going to Tulum, Akumal area will have flights into Tulum instead of Cancun. For those who can use the e-gates on arrival at Cancun that can make a big difference too. When I arrived there were about 25 people ahead of us in the e-gate line and there were hundreds of people in the regular line. We were through the line in a couple min. As has been said on here before in order to use the e-gates you need to be 18+, have an e-passport (they have a little camera like symbol on the cover. Not sure about USA but Canadian passports issued after July 2013 are e-enabled.) and you must be a citizen of Canada, USA, or Mexico

We recently returned from our third trip to Beloved Playa Mujeres. I always check your Cancun videos for the latest updates! 🙂 One thing I will mention just as a comment for others; it can be difficult sometimes to hear and understand the announcements in the gate areas. With the tile flooring, it just gets really loud and echo-ey sometimes. Or, maybe I'm just getting too old. 🤣

I'm going on my first ever Cancun trip (and first international in general!) so I've been watching all your videos. I booked my trip with Costco and they use BD Experiences for the transportation service. Is it easy to find them when you get out to ground transportation?? I read that they wear Red shirts and will have Black signs. I opted for private van. I am scared I will not be able to find them!!!

I totally agree about the prices in the Cancun Airport. They are some of the highest I have ever seen in any airport. A meal of any type is $30-40 USD/person at least and that's without a drink. You may be tempted to grab a cold beer or margarita when you get off your flight and are on your way out to your transportation but a beer is $12 and a margarita is $25. Most of the time when you get to your transportation they will have beer and other drinks available for $5 they just can't sell them to you until you leave airport property. Also agree about the duty free prices especially for alcohol. As a Canadian I usually buy something at the duty free whenever I travel because as many may know alcohol prices in Canada are atrocious but the prices at Cancun duty free are as high or higher than they are in Canada. Great tip about the VIP lounge because it would cost you at least that much to have a meal in the airport anyway.

I had the best carne asada, a burritto even, at the Cancun Airport vs. the taquerias I visited. Cost MXN $495 with that big bottle water. The most expensive thing in Mexico - the organic sun tan lotion, $740!

Make sure you know which terminal you are departing from before being left off at the wrong one. You will be approached by someone asking if you need a taxi or shuttle - dozens of times. NO GRACIAS! Don't talk to anyone at the airport, unless you have previous arrangements. Terminal 2 has "Free airport transportation" on the far LEFT side, not the right where busses are arriving. As of August, 2024 Terminal 4 has "Free airport transportation" at the beginning of the entrance with a clock timer. Airport shuttles apparently run every 20 minutes or its a 20+ minute walk between terminals. Gate numbers do not appear on the terminal board until 1 hour before scheduled flight departures - and could change as posted below. There are no announcements.
