There's endless story potential for how all these myriad of realities came to be. Honestly all I can figure from Flim & Flam's is they never got humbled by their encounters with AJ and the Mane 6. Actually from what Nightmare moon said it appears she was still imprisoned on the moon in that timeline but managed to escape much earlier than in the the main one, as she implies she's still bitter about the previous banishment by Celestia.

I liked the Nightmare Moon timeline the best also, though I think the writers did her a disservice in showing Luna as a cackling crazypony. My feeling is that once she got everything she wanted, and with Celestia firmly out of the way, her jealousy and insecurity would have faded, and she would have soon started maturing into a responsible ruler. Actually, that really seems to have happened, to produce what we glimpsed of her kingdom. Yes, she's likely cold, and definitely not one to tolerate foolishness or any challenge to her authority, but I like to think that her people respect her for keeping them safe from the various threats that pop up. I'd love to see that timeline again, with a calmer, saner Luna/Nightmare: maybe at some point Twi will come up with a spell that lets her jaunt across realities, and drop back in for a visit.

+Etaukan ironically, years before this episode aired, a fanfic showed an alternate universe WITH THIS EXACT premise, though naturally wiht differences: nightmare moon took over the world and sealed celestia in the moon, and sued ehr magic to ensure crops would grow and noone would be negatively influenced by the eternal night. She was rather draconian and had a horrible temper when crossed, but she had certainly mellowed and while not a good pony, she wasn't a TOTAL tyrant.

I think the variance in timelines is pure quantum mechanics. If the Rainboom never happened, infinite possible futures would emerge. As Silver Quill mentioned, some of them were probably good futures, where the villains were all defeated but just at a higher cost. However, given that the Tree of Harmony is still an active force here, it could be that it is purposely showing Twilight the worst possible outcomes in order to galvanize her resolve.

What do you think the mane 6's cutie marks are in the alternate futures? Idk, like, in all of them, Rainbow didn't make her rain boom, so in all of them, they are different. Like, each time. In the war with King Sombra, Pinky is serious, with her sister. No jokes, and her hair isn't booming. So that means.. Her cutie mark is WAY different than balloons. Rarity.. Uhh.. Her cutie mark will change, but she will still be a fashionista, atleast in Nightmare Moon's world. As you can see, in the Sombra and Nightmare Moon world, she made clothes. But they had no gems. I'm discarding Twilight.. Cuz you know.. AJ did come back to her home, but later in the war. Her cutie mark was probably the same. But in the Flim and Flam takeover, we can assume that her cutie mark was normal, I mean, she did stand for her farm. Flutters.. Uhh.. Where was flutters in the episode? I only saw her with Zecora. Assuming she didn't get her cutiemark since she didn't commune with the animals, her cutiemark should...

So her cutiemark might be of loyalty, to Zecora. Like, a destiny cutiemark, in one of The Brony Notion's video about cutiemarks. Lemme talk bout Rainbow, give her some shine. Her cutiemark will always change in each world, like I said. Her cutiemark in the war should be a shield. Representing her strength in the war, and loyalty to Celestia. A rainbow shield (not a gay rights shield, no offense tho) In the Luna world, her cutie mark would be similar, but a rainbow shield to Luna. (I mean nightmare moon, but I too lazy to write that, so.) This would represent what it represented in the war world, but with an extra meaning. The cutiemark would also represent that she would do anything to protect Luna, and that she is the leader of the group protecting Luna.

I think the last one was Nightmare Moon was ruling in oeace the Discord freed himself from his statue so as I don't think Nightmare Moon wanted to rule with Dis ord or Discord wanted to rule with Nightmare Moon so they fought eachother and then Chryrsalis, then Sombra, then Tirek and with 5 vilains wanting to rule Equestria all at the same time there was this massive war and everybody died and there was nothing left in Equestria.

I'm more curious about how the wasteland one happened. The others we can speculate and come to a logical conclusion but assuming they're getting sent back to the same time then what happened to end in a wasteland? My best guess is Nightmare Moon was turned, Discord would probably be destroyed as soon as the 2 sisters realised that the elements weren't connected to them anymore, Chrysalis came back and almost killed Celestia but when Luna woke up the tables turned, next would be King Sombra and the war would happen the way CC theorised, then Tirek would show up and it would cause a 3 way fight with the main focus on destroying Equestria. The problem with my that theory is if that's the way everything happened where's Tirek? Sure he might just be somewhere else but we've already seen that outcome so unless the mega-spells were created I honestly can't think of how this ending could have happened.

spekor That's assuming that they're not landing at the same time they left. Assuming that they land at the same time then there's the problem of what happened to all the life. You know trees, building and what not. War can do some crazy things but that's megaspell territory. Which raises the question of where and how did they create the spells. After all at that point it would be a 4 way fight with Sombra, Tirek, Nightmare Moon, and Celestia.

I think the last future shown was all villains clashing including an unreformed sunset shimmer with the alicorn amulet and celestia suffering from seeing thousand of ponies being kill daily she just becomes the greatest villain of them all and flares the sun so that everything is gone in a second.

I think it might be interesting to explore a "Cutie Re-Mark" scenario where, by the time Sparkle and Glimmer have their battle, all the villains up to that point are present and ruling pieces of a divided Equestria. They may be fighting against a common enemy that even their combined forces can't defeat, but they, with their individual armies and powers, have been continually trying.

I heard the theroy that in the final wasteland future parasprites invaded ponyville in the Chrysalis timeline. Swarm of the century plays out with someone similar to Twillight casting the " eat buildings " spell. Then without her friends they reproduces and eat everything. Also the Flim-Flam timeline is probably also the Crystal War but in this one King Sombra succeeds. Flim and Flam manage to convince him to give them land in exchange for much needed profits.

Honestly, I thought Luna was running the country in the Sombra future since Celestia was leading the charge. As for Nightmare Moon's future, Chrysilis not appearing makes sense when you realize, no one was happy in that future - Rarity and Rainbow did not get to live out their dreams, they were most likely forced or coerced into their jobs, showing that Nightmare Moon's dangerous future isn't starvation or freezing to death but the slow process of making the ponies around her miserable and forced into careers that they did not enjoy.As for the futures themselves - Sombra happened when Rainbow was just plain stopped so I would consider that future the most likely alternate outcome if Rainbow failed to do the Rainboom. The Chrysilis future was oddly enough a result of Fluttershy and the bullies becoming more accepting of the "equality" notion making it easier for Changelings to infiltrate if they spread the message. The Nightmare Moon future is the result of Rainbow choosing to be selfish over loyal by stopping to watch Twilight battle rather than race for Fluttershy. The tripping of Rainbow Dash would result in her trying harder to be a Wonderbolt and thus choose the Wonderbolts over friends, never teaching loyalty, getting a key, and would be part of the group that had its magic absorbed by Tirek when he escaped. Rainbow being encased in crystal would lead to an early love of pranks and Discord's brand of comedy. Starlight helping Fluttershy with the hoops would lead to her being more accepting of a stranger's help allowing Flim and Flam to take advantage of this preach to push their industrialization.

Nightmare Moon was also my favorite. It showed that she could in fact be a responsible ruler without her sister. Yeah she may be strict and has a horrible temper when it comes to being challenged or confronted, but it still shows that even with Celestia gone and locked in the moon she can still rule over Equestria and keep her subjects safe. Rainbow Dash is the element of loyalty, thus making her probably the highest ranking guard. It still kind of troubles me that she'd take Nightmare Moon's side instead of Celestia's, but my theory for that is that when she realized that even with Celestia Nightmare Moon could be just as great, she changed her mind and decided to join the guards ranks.

I do agree the alternate mane six still got their cutie marks,but later,and in different ways,and never became the best of friends. The timeline I'm most interested in is Sombra's and Nightmare Moon's. In Nightmare Moon's timeline I'm guessing Cadance is still around and did eventually marry Shining Armor. I think Nightmare Moon caught Chrysalis and defeated her and her army. Also I agree with her smashing Discord when we was still a statue,Tirek still in Taturus,and Sombra being defeated and killed. So I mostly agree with you.

Discord credited the CMC and their fight with giving him the power to free himself. In the nightmare moon future, it is highly unlikely they would have gone near that statue to have that fight as they were there on a field trip.

rainbow dash is the mitigating factor on how the futures changed.. the things she saw, the things that caused her not to do the rainboom. those flapped the butterfly's wings and caused the minute changes that led to every future.. including one where a magical war left the world uninhabitable. because though twilight wasn't there to bring them togather.. they are still the elements. and they still have power. even if they don't know how to harness it

For that last wasteland. I think the parasprites did it. The parasprites ate all the food in equestria and ponies died of starvation. A unicorn using the last of her strength used the spell twilight used to stop them from eating food, even though when she cast it the last Apple in equestria was eaten. The parasprites went on to eating every thing else. But after they devoured cities, farms, villages. There was little left. They also died from starvation and all that was left was a few dead trees and plants and a whole lotta dust and sand. There's my head canon for what happened.
