How much wax did you use for those 4 candles? Thank you sir! 💙
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
They are 7oz candles. Each candle is roughly 6.4oz wax and .6oz of oil. So for four candles, 25.6oz wax and 2.4oz oil. But, each was has a different density so these numbers will vary a bit by wax. Best bet when making candles with a new jars (or wax) is to weigh and empty jar, then fill a jar once the way you want it and weigh again. The difference is how much it holds total. @BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan. I have used the HTP wicks a bit. It may be just my experience, but they SEEM to be slightly hotter than the previous ones. Perhaps enough that they equate to one size larger. But that is still relatively small sample size as far as testing goes. It may be worth asking what others' experiences have been as well. That being said, I still have stock of the previous HTP's which is why I haven't really needed to use the new ones much yet. But I will eventually. Lol. I dont use AS many HTP's as I used to just because I use a lot of Premier 700s as well. all depends on the wax and jar I am using. Regarding CD wicks. It's not so much that I dont like them..... I just dont like them with the wax and jars I use specifically. They workfine in waxes like 464, 444, etc. So I guess that would be the answer to the 2nd part of your question. :)

Can you mix your own blends? I live in NZ - we don't have access to all of the waxes you mention. We have a choice of paraffin (not even sold by the candle supplies people - I buy it from a beekeeper who uses it to weatherproof his hives), soy, palm or coconut. No blends.
@BlackTieBarn4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely you can. Blends are common. But you will want to make sure the wax you are getting is suitable or made for candle making. For example, without know the kind of paraffin wax the beekeeper is using i am not sure. I would assume it may work. But you'd need to know some important details like the melt point, max FO load, etc. You will probably need to add vybar to it as well. You could also blend the soy and coconut or any combination. Experiment and have fun. :)

Very informative! I’m having some issues obtaining a fragrant high throw with IGI 6006, HTP wicks, and the straight sided tumbler Libbey. Any suggestions or pointers you can maybe offer?
@BlackTieBarn4 жыл бұрын
Thats a tough jar to wick actually. What FO are you using and from what supplier. 6006 has good HT overall but still need quality oils, so I always start with checking the FOs. You can also try double wicking that jar with two really small wicks. Lile 2 htp 52s or 62s as a starting point. I'd also try 2 premier 725s or 735s. Again, those are just my best guessed for a starting point. I don't use that jar specifically but wood wicks can work in that size as well. Either way, I would start with your oils. Try several. If you get good HT with most the others, its probably just not a great oil.

Thank you so much!!! :) I used 42 oz of parasoy and 3.2 oz of oil in a 9 oz straight jar with a medium wooden wick. A couple days ago and there was no smell??? What could've went wrong??
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
@@crystallauster9365 I don't use wooden wicks in jars that size so I can't speak to the wicking much. But I would try upping your FO amount. You used about 7.5% Which, for many oils will work fine. But lighter ones will need more. I am usually around 8-9. What specific parasoy are you using? Some have better HT than others. Also, not all oils work well in all waxes. See if you get the same results with other oils as well

@@crystallauster9365 awe, well thank you for subscribing. I appreciate that. And no problem, I enjoy helping! For my 6006, I am usually around 9%. Leaves is a strange one. I have used that exact same FO from Aztec. Its been hit or miss for me (strange I know). I SWARE I have made batches with great throw and other times... just so so. Not sure why. I woul definitely tryb 9-9.5% and see if it solves your HT issue. So that would be somewhere around 3.95-4 oz of FO. I heat my 6006 to around 190 and add dye if using it. I add FO around 180-185. Hope some of this info helps.

Called UV Inhibitor. Just helps keep colors from fading as quickly. It'd optional. Most don't use it to be honest (especially if not dying candles). It's beat though if your candles will be in stores on shelves under uv light.

Hey I love your channel and I’m learning a lot from your channel. Im having trouble getting a hot throw with 6006 in my aura vessel from wooden wick co. I’ve tried adding FO at 180-185 and 170-180 with CD and HTP wicks. So far the HTP wicks work best but still not getting the great hot throw everyone talks about.
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
I'd start by testing SEVERAL FOs first. not all FOs work well in all waxes. Many FOs these days have become subpar in my opinion too as they try to get competitive on price. I haven't used 6006 in aura jars myself. I prefr htp and premier 700 in 6006 as well as zinc core

If I was to preheat my tins by putting them in the oven what temperature and how long do you recommend?
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
I've never preheated tins. They hold great so well so if you want to preheat at all... you may just use heat gun or warning plate. But if want to use oven... use the lowest help possible for just a handful of movies l minutes. It varies by container type and size and they isn't a right answer. When I've preheated jars... I've done from 150 up to 190 for anywhere from 5 minutes to 15.

After you light your candles how long does it take for you to smell the hot throw?
@BlackTieBarn4 жыл бұрын
Just depends on the wax, how strong the particular FO is, size of jar, and size of room. In a small room like bathroom or small bedroom... probably 10 or 15 minutes. For a larger room can be from 30 minutes to an hour

Hey wade How much wax did you measure to fill those 9oz jars? And how did u calculate how much FO to put in?
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
7oz total fill. 9% FO 7 ÷ 1.09 = 6.4oz (wax) 7 - 6.4 = .6 (fragrance oil) I don't are single candles. I do batches. But the concept is the same just larger scale.

For customer orders. How long do you let them cure before shipping them out? Do you give them a lead time of a week or so?
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
By the time you make them, let them cure a couple days plus label them, etc. Get an order, abd then shipping. It's usually at least a week anyway. :)

Hi, is this a good wax for candles shipping during the summer hot months? I am looking for something that won't melt
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
Most container waxes are tough in high heat. They are softer with lower melt point by design. The more you increase the melt point, the worse it generally is in jars to wick. But 6006 is better than most. It has a melt point around 130-133 whereas most container waxes are around 120 or so

Hello, I use 9oz straight sided jars, I am currently testing ECO 6 and also CD8 for IGI 6006 wax. Which wicks would you recommend for this wax?

Hi Ana. Eco and CD are among my least favorite wicks for 6006 honestly. Give them a shot, but for me they always smoked and sooted more than others. I prefer zinc, premier 700s, and htp. In that jar try the following: Zinc 44-24-18 up to 44-32-18 Premier 745 up to 760 Htp 73 up to 93 Will vary on FO.

I know this video is a year old, but I hope you can help. I am using the ig 6006 wax unscented without dye. The 12oz libbey jars from candle science. I am testing wicks and can't find the right wick. Everything from black smoke/soot, mushrooms, little wax pool after 3 hrs burn. And flames that are too high/big and jumping, flickering. I have tested all wicks from eco, lx, CD, htp, and zinc. Knowing some were too small and/or too big. And none of them have worked. I have tested a total of 44 wicks. The first round was 14 and the second round was 33. Can you please offer some advice or suggestions? What am I doing wrong. So confused and frustrated... Thanking you for any response...

Hey. I don't use that container so I can only speculate. But would need to know the diameter of the tin? Is it roughly 3" If so, if probably start with like an htp 73 or 83 or a premier 745 and adjust from there as needed
