What’s ironic about this scene is that it is the father who seems much more accepting than the mother.

@nicholastotoro77215 жыл бұрын
Sometimes is really is like that. When my former stepbrother came out (my father and his mother are now divorced), his mother threw herself into a narcissistic pity party and meltdown where she didn't come out of her bedroom for three days. Despite my father's own extreme shortcomings as a father, he was the one who told her she needed to get right and help her son, that he was going to be experiencing a lot of turmoil and that a lot of kids his age struggling with their sexuality turn to substance abuse and/or suicide.

So when my cousin came out as gay his parents kicked him out. Then, his mother had a near death experience and an emergency open heart surgery. After she woke up she realized that if she had died on that operating table her own son would not come to her funeral. She also realized that if her son were to die before her she wouldn't be invited to his. These two realisations caused my aunt, a proud, republican, christian lady to accept and reconnect with her son. She also accepted all his friends, some of whom were middle eastern, gay, and Muslim. She also accepted all her son's boyfriends and his husband with open arms. I wish more parents thought about situations like this when disowning their LBGTQIA+ children. About how they'd feel if their child died with the last memory of their parents being one of rejection and pain. Or about how they'd feel if their own child wouldn't show up for their funeral. Maybe they'd realize that their kids are more important than their homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia. Maybe.

The scene with Candy and her Father, gets me every time!!! “I wanted my baby to have what he.......I guess, what she wanted”. It’s so rare to see how much Black father’s truly love their children on film. The tenderness in their eyes and the love in their heart as they look at their children is so real. Black parents love the hell out their children, but that love comes with so much fear and that’s why this scene is so powerful. #SeenAsWeAre

I agree. However, there can be a double edged sword...a lot of people de-transition and feel that after surgery something was missing, when they expected it to make them feel whole. I would love to support anybody who chooses what they want, but the grey area does exist and I would feel so badly to support a friend or family member who ended up feeling that way...like somebody should have fought with them to figure out who they truly want to be before going the surgical route. Its very heartbreaking. Just as heartbreaking as not letting someone be who they think they wanna be. Its so difficult...

usually in movie and tv . you don’t see black fathers in their child’s life. and if they are it’s very little because their toxic masculinity makes them think that only the woman should raise their children. but in this scene you hear about a black father who was not only in his child’s life but also did everything he could for his children making sure they lived in a positive environment to be creative and express who they are. and the fact that the father corrected himself after misgendering his daughter just makes me cry tears of happiness.

I know Blanca had her ups and downs with Candy, especially since at times she was mean towards her, but I love that she still looked at her like a sister and showed unconditional love, even in death.

this episode has such a special place in my heart, especially with her fathers love. the day i watched this episode about 2 years ago, my father had a heart attack. he was thankfully ok but it was definitely a wake up call for me. i took my parents out to dinner the next week and finally told them i was trans and wanted to change my name. i was so scared that they would hate me or that this would be the final push for them to let me go, but i’m so glad i did it. this last christmas my mother gave me and my sisters the same gift, a necklace with our initial. when i opened mine and saw the “a” for my name, i finally understood what candy must have felt getting her dollhouse. it will always be the greatest gift i have ever received 💖

"Wasn't no guidebook instructing me how to raise a child like YOU." I'm nobody's mother so I'm not going to pretend that I understand what it's like to raise someone who is in the LGBTQ+ community. But what baffles my mind even more than that is how one could turn their backs on and hate that which came from you. I don't think I could. So perhaps there isn't a guidebook, but that's the beauty of it all...you get to write your own. I hope you do.

Straight people love to blame the culture for their attack on us to reddem themselves. Of course It was a culture thing but It was a culture created by them and perpetuated by them. They knew exactly what they were doing.

You know what's crazy? My mom said that about me before she even knew I was queer. She said "You know, your teen phase was probably the hardest. Yeah you never ran away or snuck boys in like your sister. You never stole and we never had any big arguments. But all those things were familiar to me. You, talking with you was like living with someone who spoke another language. I had no clue how to connect with you, there was no guidebook on how to deal with the specific issues you were going through. And I think that made you more lonely. I just thank God you found friends that didn't steer you wrong." Shit sticks with me to this day as I raise my own kid.

Crying now I feel just like her. Being a trans rejected by parents is the most painful of All rejections. By the 2 who made me who o am. My mom hated how I mirrored her, an since dad an mom never got along, dad couldnt take me either 🤣 But who doesn't wanna be loved for being who they are?? I can't even finish my comment the way I want so I'll just say THANK YOU for posting this

God, this scene is amazing. Every time I watch it, I cry. So many of us in the LGBTQ+ community never get that opportunity of acceptance, and love, from our families. To see it, and hear it, just lights up my heart. We spend so much of our lives hiding who we are and conforming to those around us. Being seen, and accepted, means so so so much to us and this scene always brings tears to my eyes. Such an amazing cast and show!

ACCEPTANCE is what we all crave universally especially from our parents no matter you're race, culture, religion, or sexuality. This damn scene had me choked up. I'm a straight woman that love the show that have been cast out by her own parents because she refuse to be controlled. All she want is acceptance🙂

🏳️🌈 I broke down hard with this scene..... I wish for my hubby’s parents to look for him before it’s too late..... it’s horrible not being loved by your own parents. Not everything will be perfect but like a lot of us in the LGBTQ+ community we sure damn try to make it that way. 🏳️🌈

I love and hate this scene equally. Love it because it is so tastefully played and emotional, all the actors outstanding. I hate it because these stories actually occured and these poor women were never able to reconcile with their families, and it's so heartbreaking it makes me angry cry.

😭😭😭😭😭 it's even sadder because while some of the other conversations with the cast were ones they couldve had with her in their head knowing her, these ones were specifically conversations that they would never have, about things they would never know, with her life cut short before such an exchange could ever happen

She has no idea how much I want to call her, tell her I miss my mama and my family. But I can’t keep myself around them if they don’t care about the pain they cause. I miss them so much, and I don’t want the next time we see each other to be in a situation like this.
