Protection dogs their presence can provide a sense of safety and comfort. People appreciate their ability to protect while also being affectionat, loyal with love for the owner. My ex Boerboel and my ex bullmastiff both were very friendly with stranger but bullmastiff suspicious of strangers gently by smeling them watching them. My bullmastiff was a very Good body Guard . My Boerboel was (very) suspicious of strangers in the street by looking at them then watching my eyes to have my opinion if something goes wrong or not with the stranger my corso was different character as a body Guard, Corso is not keen at strangers. Boerboel, it's first professional job is (Guarding, farming, homestead, for trapping and to ward off big animals). cane corso, it's first professional job (personal protection Body Guard, police work and Guarding ) Bullmastiff first professional job is a Body Guard personal protection more than Guarding a place, he is a Police dog. Their 2nd and other professional job needs some work education for motivation and it is good to do a remind for it from time to time. But concerning their first professional role job it's (Much more) stronger in their DNA. I owned boerboel,bullmastiff & cane corso and rotweiller. I am interested in Dogue de bordeaux too (French mastiff). My ex Rotweiller was starting very goog guarding at 4 months old, and I did after university 2 years courses for education dogs in Switzerland one year theoretical by swiss doctors from university & another year practical by swiss & french professionals trainers.There is a difference between Guard and protection dog & as i said i will focus more about protection here. Boerboel is the best for farm.About (protection)cane corso is a(ultra) protection dog. Bullmastiff and boerboel are(very good)for protection. But Bullmastiff is (fantastic) protector but I did not use the world(ultra) protection dog for him cause he neither growls nor barks only he do it if he is closed from the aggressive target and cannot reach it like if he is in the car and someone agrees him and he cannot reatch the person cause of the window of the car then he barks . So he always do his job in scilence but very good. And bullmstiff is the better dog for his relation with his owner, his patient, very hight affection, much hight level of respect for his owner than corso (2nd) and then boerboel (3rd). also i did not use the word (ultra) protection for the fantastic borboel cause boerboel is (sometimes)a lazy dog for(Gurad) exemple if the door rings he may go to see who is there or he will relax and just watch you(very well) from far opening the door. So if something happend he may be next to your feet for (protection) or still watching from far so he needs more time to jump from his place to protect you in case he is relaxing and he did this case (not rare)but if you are in the street so he is by your side for (protection)specially cause he is on leash next to you. Bullmastiff & cane corso are both famous for the word (body Gurad dog)& the word(corso) " the breed's name roughly translates from the Latin as 'bodyguard dog". A protector. About (Guard) dog as I said borboel is more lazy like to relax (sometimes)and I heared this opinion from a famous professional breeder of boerboel too which breeds boerboel and corso even he prefers the boerboel.And my boerboel did the same.But bullmastif for exemple he (Guards)the car if you are inside to (protect)you but if he is alone in the car he may not Guard it at all even someone go inside the car . he more focus for protecting you than to Gurad. He is more professional as a body guard dog than guarding a place but he did Guard the home when the owner is not inside it .One more point bullmastif and boerboel they like to analyse the cituation well before reacting for(protection)but cane corso do not take the risk if there is any potential dangerous so he reacts (more fast). Some aggressors escape from size,face of bullmastiff others get scarey but cause bullmastiff does not bark,analysis,the aggressor can stay in front of you hesitating to agress you or not for a while and when this agressor do it bullmastiff react fast without hesitating to protect his ownrr, cane corso does not wait he does not take the risk plus he barks immediately. It is proved scientifically that dogs smell if the person is aggressive or not.About level of barking cane corso barks 3/5 Borboel 2/5 Bullmastiff from zero to1/5.So bullmastif is the best for Neighbour. For me till 3/5 is ok it is not really big noisy and not very often and i can handel with it easier than 4/5 or 5/5 and Cane corso said to have the strongest bite force among them 700 psi.Boerboel is more stockier, more muscles than the others, in general males are between 70&90kg & few are 105 and 120kg but sure too much kilos is not fine for dog. Bullmastiff male is between 50&59 kilos,i saw one 81kg too much ! European cane corso male between 45 to 50 kg in the standard of FCI and can be 55 but Americain cane corso are heavier from 55 to 68 kg. I saw one 93.8 kg & a breeder tolds his male was 100 kg and i know someone got a puupy male from him at adult age was 106/107 kg , too much ! But the famous international corso is the italian fci corso. Dogue de bordeaux male is between 50 to 60/65 kg and I saw one 86 kg a very heavy dog than the standard can be not healthy. I never owned a bordeaux but I did a research about him a calm dog with people but attacks your attacker, a fantastic protector dog with(low energy level)&some people prefer that. Just one more point about guarding and cane corso . Corso is only interested in his familly memebers, he is garding the car even a suspect person is far away from his car and guarding his home even suspect person is in the other way of a road of his home. Corso love a more security distance . On the list of the top (protection) dogs very much often i find the cane corso & the bullmastiff among them . Boerlboel is in the list of one of the best (gurad) dog in akc. I can say Cane corso is a (ultra) professional bodyguard . Bullmastiff is a (a real profesional silent ) body Guard dog. Boerboel is a (body Guard) dog as his (2nd job) But some good trainng is a key. Dogue de bordeaux i never owned one but i find his caracter more close to bullmastiff and i guess i can put him as a ( Body Guard dog) as his (1'rst job) and a calm dog. If you are looking for more hight protection dog ( much more easy to train ) then Belgium malino, German shepherd, Doberman and Rottweiler. you need to check differnt things like the energy level of the dog breed and your style of life etc... In General mastiff dogs types are more suitable for familly cause of their energy levels but with exceptions like the dogo argentino with his active energy level. @@geoffoakland with the heat and humidity I would not have one of these dogs. I’d want a lighter faster dog that can deal with the heat. A Fila Brasiliero, two Dogo Argentino, a Malinois (get 2 of these) or two Dutch Shepherds all are better than the “200 lb Boerbel” - at least the way they are being bred today.

Funny story: I keep my yorkie at doggy daycare a few days a week. Another regular there is a red boerboel. First time I saw him I was honestly a bit scared, cause he was of leash roaming and if he decides to do something he is definitely strong enough to get his way. Most people who work there are young women (like me). Well, the teenager handling him saw me hesitate and just said. "Nah, you're good, this is Max, he never got the memo about being a fierce guard dog, he just wants kisses". She let me and my 3kg terrier through the gates, and Max came up to us, sat down and let my yorkie sniff him, he gave me some kisses and then he left when he realized I had no treats. His owner, who actually wanted a guard dog to work with, later told me he is scared of the cats in the neighborhood and he greets visitors like a Labrador would... His siblings are working and competing but he turned out to be a drooly potato😂

Yogi, our 190lbs.+ Boerboel, just turned two years old today. We trained him using your courses from puppy to e-collar. It’s helped him become an absolute stud in public and at home. These dogs are amazing guardians. They won’t harm a hair on a child, yet they naturally know when to flip the switch on strangers and strange animals. They need a dominant owner that is firm, but fair, and constantly gives them a job. I’m 6’5” 250lbs., and I will be the first to tell you these dogs are not for everyone. If you can’t physically control them, good luck when they feel the need to give someone the business. 😅

I flew my king cane corso in from Italy, his lineage goes back over 100 years . He's a blue brindle and is a stunning massive corso which weighs 170 lbs. We hit the dog park on my lunch daily and I think my dog is a great protector and an awesome family dog

I love boerboels. I had one that was about 165-170 I bought from an Amish family in Ohio. Drove all the way from Texas to get him. One of the best dogs I’ve ever had. He also had 4 acres to run around on. He behaved when he was inside, but these aren’t inside dogs. I never had to worry about coyotes, foxes or any other critters coming around at night with him in the yard.

@@priestesslucymost breeders charge in excess of $1,500. Usually $2,500 or more, which is why I drove to Ohio for mine. He costed me $900. He didn’t have papers, but I didn’t purchase him to be a show dog. These were working line dogs that were bred to protect their livestock from predators like coyotes on their sheep farms. Great dogs, but one must train them from a young age in my opinion. These dogs are extremely powerful compared to most. My dog was gentle, but he could handle business if there were trespassers. If you can’t train the dog yourself, be sure to work with a trainer that allows you to train with the dog, so the dog knows you. Also, stop random people from trying to pet your dog. I hated that. People would get upset that I stopped them from petting him, but they didn’t understand that you can’t get in a dog’s face doing baby talk and think it was ok.

I’m 36, got my first pet ever in life 3.5-4yrs ago.. it was an 8wk old Cane Corso. I knew NOTHTHINNGGGG about dogs, let alone this breed. My wife’s friend from school had a litter and her husband was selling them.. cool! Wife mentioned it to me.. I was hesitant at first. Went to KZbin University to get a crash course on this breed. Learned as much as I could in a short time. Got the puppy one weekend.. the first few months the adjustments were hard for both of us lol,, he didn’t like me and I didn’t like him 😂😂.. 4yrs later., he’s easily my favorite family member lmaoo! Wife and kids come 2nd place to my Ghost!! 🐺 I’m even considering getting another one so he can have a play mate.

I have 3 male Boerboels all 2 years old back here on our farm in Kenya - Africa. They are not like Dobermans who like to be close to the owner, instead, they like to patrol a large area keeping watch. They have that instinct in them (I have never taken them to any professional training), I only socialized them with my family members and close family friends. I am forced to lock them if any new person comes into the farm. If I don't they will do severe injuries and their strength overpowers mine. Also, they don't bark a lot so a stranger won't be aware they are near.

The owner don't need to be there to command them. Very confident dogs. Stalking, short burst of speed, then pounce to finish! And their bite force is very strong!

I have 3 Cane Corsos and my neighbors have boerboels and a couple of my other neighbors have pups that are grown now from my litter of Cane Corsos and my entire street is very safe and nobody and I mean nobody comes around messing with any house or person on my Block. I have 3 male Boerboels all 2 years old back here on our farm in Kenya - Africa. They are not like Dobermans who like to be close to the owner, instead, they like to patrol a large area keeping watch. They have that instinct in them (I have never taken them to any professional training), I only socialized them with my family members and close family friends. I am forced to lock them if any new person comes into the farm. If I don't they will do severe injuries and their strength overpowers mine. Also, they don't bark a lot so a stranger won't be aware they are near.

I have a female cane corso. Lilac fawn and is a rare 130lbs. I curated her diet to include cordyceps. As a pup at 8 weeks, I'd put a pinch of cordyceps powder in her meals. At about 4 months, a quarter teaspoon of cordyceps. At 10 months she was 75lbs. Now at 3 years old. She's proportionally big. Nice lines, great muscle tone. Cordyceps, raw liver, chicken parts, watermelon, blueberries, raw ground beef and eggs.

Good that you're emphasizing that these dogs are fantastic but most people shouldn't even think of getting them. "You can have them as family pets". Sure, but your kids might wanna have friends over and these dogs don't like strangers. They're trainable to a certain level, but don't do it if you're not a dog training expert. "I'm an experienced dog owner" isn't enough!

The German Shepherd! It might not be categorized as a guard dog by others, but I recommend it to first-time owners of dogs who want guarding and protection. For me, I have 2 boerboels and 1 German Shepherd. They are all my first dogs. The Boerboels need a very large space to roam around. Sometimes when a new person comes in via the main gate I am forced to lock the boerboels as they are stronger than me.

I remember my first time meeting a boerboel, I was delivering to a guys house who was building a stables for his daughters horses. I got out the cab and walked through the open gate of the drive. I saw 3 boerboels jogging over to me and heard him screaming “don’t move!!!, don’t move!!!”. I could feel my heart racing as he was rushing down the drive on a golf cart. As he reached me the dogs had already surrounded me and was sniffing my legs and hands. The guy jumped off the golf cart and burst out laughing. Turns out he was pulling a prank on me and the dogs were absolute sweethearts. He told me how he regularly couldn’t find his youngest daughter, who was about 5 at the time, and she would be asleep with the dogs in the dog’s room. I couldn’t believe how big their heads were but they turned out to be lovely. The main problem I had was that they kept sleeping on the drive basking in the heat and every time I brought in aggregates I had to keep getting them up and moving to back up the drive.

I have 2 Cane Corsos. One just turned 1 on the 27 sep. he is a male. He weighs 110 lbs. the other one is a female, she is 10 months old. Last time I weighed her was more than a month ago, she was 77 lbs. she’s probably around 85-90. Great temperament.

I adore both breeds, but they are ABSOLUTELY not for casual, beginning, or owners without Guarding breed/K9 handling experience or the resources to hire someone who does. I've had bullies, working GSDs, but also goldens, labs and hounds. Unless you can contain and control the areas the dog is in AT ALL TIMES, they REQUIRE comprehensive socialization training in order to keep those around safe. It's a TON of work, and without it the odds are a beautiful dog will end up surrendered. I've seen a glut of nastiff guard breeds at ACC the last 3/4 years and it beeaks my heart every time.

Man you have never encountered a male Boerboel (purebred - pedigree) in his prime, matters worse if he has not been socialized. I have 3 males all aged 2 years on our farm here in Kenya - Africa. The next farm neighbor has 2 Rottweilers (purebred imported - pedigree), so I know what I'm saying. If such a Boerboel gets hold of a stranger, even you the owner you'll panic. If you succeed in forcing him to let go of the hand or leg, trust me the bone might be cracked.

My buddy in Madagascar kept getting robbed even with an 8 ' fence around his property. He imported 2 Boerbels, and they were useless. I hooked him up with a Fila Mastiff, aka Brazilian Mastiff breeder. One dog solved all his problems. Filas are the toughest, most protective dogs on the planet. Period.

Can you tell us something about the Serbian Defense Dog? 9 months ago I bought a Serbian defense dog, until then I didn't know about that dog breed. He is trained and listens to everything and if he is huge on walks he is relaxed and gentle with other dogs, but in the yard he becomes a demon, excessively aggressively guarding the house, he attacks even when he hears the sound of a car... Weren't Boerboels bred for hunting lions? They're also kind of a rare and expensive breed too as not many people want them since they're too much dog for most. I wouldn't mind owning a mastiff breed, BUT the drool is probably too much for me. My lab gets water all over the place and drools whenever he thinks there's something for him and that's more than enough.

Fun fact about the boerboel, the tail is always cut off as a puppy because these dogs are kept for protection in south Africa, especially in rural areas. Without a tail it is extremely hard for the criminals to see if the dog is scared or not when provoked. So it's always a gamble for them to enter a property with a boerboel

Absolute bullshit. It was done originally as a preventative to stop baboons grabbing their tails and mobbing and mauling them. This breed was not created with criminals in mind. The bs people come up with 😂

Yes. I have 3 Boerboels all 2 years old here on our farm in Kenya Africa, our neighbour has 2 Rottweilers and 2 Cane Corso. Boerboels are more calm, they can't endure a long chase as they get tired easily. But they pounce and when they get hold of a stranger trust me even you the owner might panic. It is very hard to convince them to let go. They are kind of a finisher dog and not a chaser, kind of stalking then short bust of speed, then pounce on the victim. Another big advantage of this dog is that the owner doesn't need to be there in person to give them the morale to defend! If you have a big homestead/farm, as long as the boundaries have an enclosure, you just release them and you go on with your issues, they won't care for your attention (like the likes of Dobermans), they will just go around the property patrolling and listening. And can do this for hours without feeling bored. NB: They are heavy feeders 😅

Some dogs are about just the business their DNA geared them for and how you train them. Got a south African Mastiff as a pup for couple months. Left for family emergency for 4 months with my nephews for house sitting. That rascal chased me on my property for two months when I came back .My only luck was that she was a puppy still to be distracted a bit. She was about that business to dent my body permanently or remove a part of it. I have to run to get into the house for the two first months of my return. Got familiar again and became her master,pal and buddy. She is all about Business, family and friendship. I am not responsible for anyone or anything that comes unwillingly to disturb her peace and my peace within our property and within the house. If you are not family, someone we know and you're not invited or your job is to break in...well her job is to break you out.
