I've had a Thudbuster LT on my bikes for almost 20 years now. They're the best suspension seat post out there imo (and I've tried them all). Doesn't negatively affect handling or performance at all. Feels like a full suspension but without the complexity or weight, very smooth and natural. Durable too. However, it's extremely important to match the correct elastomers to your weight, otherwise it's uncomfortable - either too jarring or always bottoming out. Once dialed in though, it's heaven - and disappears underneath you.

May I ask how bad is it for climbing uphill? Self-quote: "This is potentially interesting for a hardtail MTB, except it doesn´t seem to have any locking mechanism whatsoever, so climbing uphill with this thing on could be much more tiring than it should be with a proper suspension lockout."
@ElectricBikeReview8 жыл бұрын
Interesting point... In that case you might want to go for the short travel design? You might lose some energy to bobbing in either case.
@1650million8 жыл бұрын
That´s the thing, I don´t really know if I want something without a lockout, since it´s a compromise between confort and riding efficiency. I ride long distances, I already have a full suspension without lockout, and whenever I´m on the road and I see a prolonged steep hill ahead, the one thing I miss the most is precisely that lockout, since it translates in a worse efficiency and/or decreased battery life. Not that important when you´re commuting, of course, but when you´re cycling a 9% grade hill for several kms at a time, it is a serious issue.
@mr4x4s8 жыл бұрын
+1650million I don't notice my Thudbuster while climbing. The seat post will absorb weight only as suspension will absorb energy as well. When the climbing gets steep I'm usually out of the saddle anyways. The only problem I have with mine is it raises your minimum seat height by 4-5 inches. I usually run my frame sizes toward the small side so this ends up working out for me. I got mine off Amazon for $140... I personally love them! I did a video "how steep will an electric bike will climb" and have a thudbuster on that bike.
@1650million8 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the info. I do think they're cool, but my problem is not climbing 13% hills for a few hundred meters, more like 9%ish for several kms at a time. And the fact that you don't "notice it" doesn't mean you're not bobbing like crazy, thus losing energy/battery over extended periods of time. There's a reason every decent FS bike has a lockout, after all... I actually have a Rockshock Tora Air 130mm travel at the front, with poplock, and I find myself locking it up more often than not. For a recreational, "normal" use, the thudbuster looks pretty good anyway.

Bought one but can't use it because the seat clamp does not truly fit the rails of my saddle. It's not only that it's a bit narrow but also that they've made seat railing channel that is too narrow to fully allow a secure cradling of the rails. I have three saddles and it didn't allow any of them to sit IN the rails and not ON the rails. I'm gonna try and find a work around but the company should have thought of more adaptability to saddles.

Hi, I just purchased 4 LT for my bikes, but the 3 LT has the see through bushings, and one has solid bushings you cannot see through, would that be a first generation model...older? Also, it feels soggy and will not return to the top of the travel. Stripped, greased and fully serviced it, tried 2x 5 rubbers, and 2x 7 rubbers, but still the same, feels quite limp. Is it because I need a new bushing kit? Any advice would be a help. Simon, Wales UK.

The offset gets too much with this seatpost for me. Wish they would make a parallelogram seatpost with a shape that would compensate for the increased backwoulds offset, that is in the parallelogram design. Because the angle from the saddle down to the pedals gets less steep, which makes it harder to put energy into the pedals.

Can anyone confirm the ThudBuster's seat post can be cut shorter and not affect the suspension? I would cut the seat post with a hacksaw myself and grind to smoothen out the end. This presumes the ThudBuster's suspension mechanism does *not* go down into the seat post like some other seat suspension types. I will need to shorten down a ThudBuster's seat post to fit on one of my bikes. EDIT: at 5:30 in the video, I can just glance that the seat post *appears* to be just a regular tube with no mechanism inside. I just need confirmation from an actual ThudBuster user though. :)
