Love a hard-to-anticipate strike or technique. I attended an event where Bill Wallace was demonstrating once. He demonstrated a (very) fast double kick that began with a feint...but that's not what stuck. He said "They can be bigger than you, faster than you, they can even be BETTER than you...Nobody ever has to be *sneakier* than you". I've thought about that a lot lately with all the information coming from Maestro Ruiz. I think he would agree. 🙂

Great observation Sean! We've had the priviledge to train with Bill Wallace as well and agree he has much to offer in combative wisdom. Your are 1000% correct the "Cuban Ninja" Maestro Ruiz would agree with Superfoot's "sneeky" strategy. The entire purpose of the self-defense cane is to NOT have to use the "empty hand". And again: there's no substitute for a hard two-handed strike.

Thank you for commenting @clamzo1 - If you have a legitimate interest in self defense and you don't have empty hand skills you're a liability. Professionals who get paid to stop threats (i.e. SWAT) understand the perils of over-reliance on ANY tool including their own firearms. We know this because it's one of the reasons they site for seeking ACSD training. From the onset, ACSD recognized the need for empty hand skills and included the natural Empty Hand Translations that come from the Cane. No need to seek out an "outside" system, it's already built in. As far as the "best" strike, ACSD teaches that would be dictated by the circumstance and nature of the threat. There is no "best" strike that applies to every situation. That said, ACSD (like Sobrevivencia) teaches the ultimate form of self protection would involve zero contact. Always walk away whenever possible. Never crawl away. 😊 - Stay Safe!
