Guess people are first timers here and don’t realize that this video is the first time this dog named Ronin was introduced to dog parks and not on the channel for the first time. If you watch other videos with Ronin, you’ll realize that the training and experiences he has had since this time period has drastically changed and has now become a very calm, friendly and confident dog. Too bad the ignorance of some people who comment here without thinking is astoundingly stupid.

Dog parks are just heck holes, incompetent people being their dogs and then let them fight other dogs. I own two reactive dogs, if I brought them to a dog park, that would be such an irresponsible move. I like this channel as it breaks down certian body language, just wish he would stop bringing his dog(s) and letting the dog(s) get in fights.

@@carissatanner7596 For sure. Dog parks are full of owners, who bring their dog who has terrible recall. Or aggressive dogs. Then they attack dogs like ronin, and he has been told off for brining his dog(s) to dog parks knowingly that a fight might occur. So many people are calling him a moron for bringing ronin to a dog park immediately after getting him, and for the fact he even goes to them.

I NEVER let my dog crowd the gate at a dog park, nor should anyone else. They should always meet on open ground, humans keep walking away from each other so the dogs can move on if they don’t like each other. Absolutely hate people who stand right by the gate with their dog, always the best way to start a dog fight

Fo real it was acceptable enough when you were out by yourself but bruh you literally said it in the subtitles his emotions were going crazy when you met those dogs, from excited to scared, I doubt he would start a fight but if those other dogs kept charging who knows what could happen. like you said in the title this dog is reactive. you say not to go to the dog park when theres alot of people but I like the dog park when theres alot of people the problem is when alot of people bring their untrained dogs with NO PRECAUTION. I get its also just normal to have a barely trained dog that cant control itself, but you didnt even have that. " The owner SAID he met other dogs so iT shOuld Be fiNe" bruh your irresponsible.
@mainsidequest5203
@mainsidequest5203 Жыл бұрын
Sorry but this video was about socializing him, not teaching him recall. Also you can train in back yard all you want, if your dog is not socialized and reacts to other dogs your recall won't be listened to. "I seen dogs that have lived together from puppies nearly kill each other … an animal is an animal at the end of the day …" I don't know what to tell you, if you own a dog and pay attention to their body language you learn it. I can see what my dogs intentions and mood is for that day 2 minutes into a walk. And you can see what your dog intentions are towards other humans/dogs before they even get close enough for contact.
@tylerl3905
@tylerl3905 Жыл бұрын
@@mainsidequest5203 serious question: how do you properly socialize a dog with no leash and no recall? Just let it get face to face with a random dog, cross your fingers and hope for the best? The whole idea here is that you start on leash in your backyard to build up recall, and then work your way up to the dog parks. It doesn't have to be 0 to 100 or one or the other.
@mainsidequest5203
@mainsidequest5203 Жыл бұрын
@@tylerl3905 recall and socialization have nothing to do with eachother, you can argue he could had socialized this dog on a leash. But it's a 8 month old puppy, and the dogs he met he knew most of them, it's not his first or only dog, so having him of leash is fine. Puppy at that age won't just go attacking other dogs. And he is learning socialization from other dogs, we can't teach them to interact with other dogs.
@tylerl3905
@tylerl3905 Жыл бұрын
@mainsidequest5203 being able to recall your dog from a social interaction is very important to help give it direction as to which behavior is acceptable and which is not. You letting other dogs at the dog park correct your 8 month old puppy instead of doing it yourself is lazy. And if you think because a Malinois is 8 months old that it won't be aggressive, you clearly don't spend much time around them

Letting a notoriously neurotic breed with zero training off leash the day you got him? Yikes dude... you're very lucky that didn't go south. @@EviLpr0duction @EviLpr0duction Sounds like you're projecting your own insecurities about dog ownership. If you think its acceptable to let dogs run loose at dog parks with no training, you are a moron. These are bare minimum precautions you should take with unfamiliar working dogs, especially ones who have been historically bred for defense and are likelier to be reactive. For the record I've never had a desire for Malinois, but I professionally fancied and trained several breeds (primarily bird dogs) for over a decade. I'm well acquainted with what good training practices look like, and have seen several incredibly trained Malinois, and it sure doesn't look like what we see in this video. If you can't be bothered to do basic training with your dog, and get aggressive when people imply that you absolutely should, maybe YOU should stick to cats.

Like other commenters said, I also do not think it's responsible at all to bring a dog that you personally have bought a few days ago to a dog park off leash, *especially* if he has shown fear and discomfort around other dogs before. In my opinion, it would be much safer to gradually socialize the dog in a controlled manner, so that his fear is gradually eliminated and there is less of a risk of an attack happening and/or serious injury is inflicted on a dog/person involved. While the situation in the video turned out fine, it could have gone much worse. Edit: after I watched the whole video and learning about Ronin's recall being bad in an off leash dog park on the *2ND DAY* of ownership is actually insane. That's a dislike, sorry dude, I like your other videos, but your behaviour in this one is, in my opinion, too reckless to warrant a positive reception from me.

for dogs like this not having a leash is way better and safer. if he were on a leash and tried approaching the first dog, the trainer would naturally pull back on him, making him strain to move forward. other dogs could interpret this as a challenge. I know many whos dogs have gotten into fights because they were trying to sniff another dog and their owners yanked back on the leash. you want as little tension and as much freedom as possible.

This is extremely helpful in becoming familiar with their body language . I have a German Shepherd and a Malinois , plus 3 German Short Hairs. I am an expat living in South America and rely on my pack for homeland security . I take my GS everywhere he is very socialized, our Malinois is still young almost 2 and is also learning socialization skills. Recently in our small community two trainers have started Dog Club.. You should NEVER let a dog you've known for only 24 hours off-leash in a dog park. You shouldn't let a dog you've only known for 24 hours off-leash, period. It is unsafe for both the dog and people/humans that are around, especially with a potentially dangerous dog like a Malinois. I have a young adopted German Shepard, and I worked with her for at least a week before letting her go off-leash, so we could get to know one another and our personalities/triggers. I still have to watch her like a hawk at the dog park, and have complete control over her behaviors before letting her around other dogs. What this owner did is a recipe for disaster. Malinois can absolutely be aggressive and bite as puppies. They are extremely common dogs to bite and should only be handled by an experienced trainer.

Our third dog was a three year old mal that would have been surrendered to the animal shelter for the 3rd time if we hadn't taken her. We turned her out into the backyard and hurried to the computer to find the AKC breed standard for Mals and what their needs are. She was a fur missile! All she wanted to do was run. At the dog park she found friends who also wanted to run. The dog park saved our lives and our sanity. This was back in 2014. There was not much on the internet back then about training mals like there is now. We would take home an exhausted dog and she would collapse when we got home. No problem getting her to bed at night. Sorry for the long post.

To all you guys critiquing without having any basis on dog psychology, this guy has extensive knowledge in dog behavior which is what I think you guys are forgetting. He has said previously, don’t do this if you don’t know what you’re doing, which makes you think “maybe, he is someone who knows what he’s doing!” In this video ronin is a puppy, he is susceptible to pack hierarchy and learning boundaries with other dogs. The owner understands ronins demeanor prior. He probably knows the dogs at the park already. With how he analysis behavior he can tell if two dogs are going for the kill or if they are just having a tussle over pushy behavior. He can make ronin avoid dogs that would be trouble by looking at that dog’s behavior. For all we know this guy went to college for dog psychology, or grew up with very knowledgable parents, or just learned it all online. Point is, he knows things that are keeping him, his dog, and other dogs safe. So stop pretending like you know everything and that your opinion is the only right one! Look around what facts you see, were any dogs harmed? Were any people harmed? Did ronin run off into the abyss? In fact, the first thing we see is the owner establishing a pack hierarchy with ronin. Stop hurting this guys image unless you actually know something, stop spouting opinions.

They only want to play with the balls. But again, I know my dogs and have had them since they were puppies and they’ve been trained and socialized. I was at a dog park with my girlfriend & her dog when an IDIOT walked inside with her 2 year old kid, put him on the ground and walked away texting totally oblivious to the potential danger.!?!?!? I immediately told her that this is not a babysitting park & that some dogs don't actually like kids. On a side note, I was bit by a golden retriever when I was @ 10 because kids used to throw rocks at it when it was a puppy, I found that out later. & still have the scar. I didn't blame the dog, now the owner for not saying anything, well.... She looked at me and could not believe I called her out, but she did remove her kid. There also was another guy who had a large male rottweiler who enjoyed watching his dog run around and "challenge" other dogs. I would bet that more than 90% of people never bother to train their dogs. It seems that the smaller the dog, the less "training" they have because owners don't provide any boundaries & treat their dogs as a toy or a human. How many times have you seen people let them bark or do whatever and they never correct the dog? They either ignore, laugh or don't pay attention. My friends kid had a Dachsund with a "cute" pink bling-bling collar that had a huge gap around its neck. I told her that the collar was actually a functioning piece of equipment FIRST and that the dog could easily get out of it. Of course, this dog was amped up and got its leash entangled with a much larger dog 5' away because she wasn't paying attention to her dog. I kindly told her that is a great way of getting her dog bit by another fearful dog. I never took my GSD to any dog park for these very reasons and always am aware of what's going on around me. I get discouraged when I see people let their dogs down.

I both agree and disagree. I took a rescue Mal which as I look way back was a very dangerous stunt ( he was 1.5 year old, chained to a barn most of his life ) and within a year managed to train to act properly around house, my little kids ( yes, It was a very very very dumb idea, I agree ) and a cat. Also socializing to other people, cars etc. Currently doing quite a good progress dealing with dog reactivity . He's a decent dog now but it's quite expensive considering you have to meet trainer at least once a week and spend loads of time training him on your own, but's it's kind of doable. On the other hand - I've met quite a few Mals that people had from their young age and didn't train them at all - it's a disaster
