Hi, I do agree with you in most of the point you mentioned in this video ,however, everyone has his/her own way to learn vocabulary. I have been studying English for almost 6 months and what I noticed is that the most effective way for me to learn vocabulary is listening. I do believe the more I listen , the more I absorb and grasp a massive amount of vocab not just only words but also phrases and the words part of speech (word family). Some of my friends who are currently studying English have different ways than mine but the see it more effective and efficient than mine , too. In another words, students have to find ways that might help them and expand their ability to understand and learn vocab. Thank you so much and I wanted to let know that you've been always more than an amazing teacher.

There is no right or wrong way. Do what works for you. But if the result if not communication then you are not learning a language, you are being an academic.

ツAdelAlfusail your English is great! But I can’t trust that he has learned it only for 6 months. He definitely knew its basics before studying intensely. The fact is that we already learned simple words like red, short, pants, cat etc.. in childhood. It’s difficult to count the time we did it since English is a global language . We are taught it at school and we can see English everywhere all over the world. Btw I like this video, rather than accumulating vocabulary, we have to use and apply it in real conversations

Awesome ! it's intresting how good you describe things and get people excited about the topic you wanna talk about. You're right ! But the reason that people think about counting english words is that there are so many words in english and each has a very specific usage as well as several different meanings ! (like in my language take and grab and get are all the same !) I came back to AU after 7 years and my english has gotten worse, and since I came here I've tried to memorise words but this just makes me nervous cus i can't use them, but when I socialise, I get better, I love english and to me english is the most advanced language.

Hi Christian, Hi There, You know, I have only been learning English for a year and I knew maybe hundred words at the beginning. I never learned a list. Nevertheless, watching many English websites, reading many articles of topics I liked, translating, learning grammar through English websites made me get more and more comfortable. Now, I can communicate in English by expressing what I really want to say. I have no idea how much my brain owns English words and I couldn't care less . But, one thing is certain, I don't regret my quest to English words and idiomatic sentences even if that took me a lot of time . The goal is not to ingest words, the goal is to be comfortable connecting to others. And to achieve that, I need words. Unfortunately, even my smile or my sign language don't replace words.

Yes, speaking about the first language. Like kids, low vocabulary but good speaking. The second language is different. You lose the ability to work with few word and is more easy express yourself with great vocabulary. So you struggle with the second one because you have the first as reference. The secret would be, we should try to be shallow. But how can we do it?
