A friend of mine dropped in on me unexpectedly about a month ago. He knew that I lost my long time husky a few months earlier. For some unknown reason he had a bunch of new dogs, three roughly six month old puppies, a one year old, and his own old dog. I agreed to go see him the following day. Instead of the big black one year old male that my friend had in mind for me, a delightful little, well actually not so little, all white female puppy greeted me at my car. She's a LGD, probably an Akbash or Maremma. With the other dogs coming and going, she wouldn't leave my side while I visited with my friend. We kind of bonded instantly, so I ended up going home with the white LGD puppy instead of the black one year old. She chose me as much as I chose her. She chews everything in sight, and she's a bit headstrong but she's going to be an amazing dog.

What a heartwarming story! It sounds like it was meant to be with your new white LGD puppy. It's amazing how dogs have a way of choosing us just as much as we choose them. How has she adjusted to her new home since then? Also, any fun stories about her mischievous chewing adventures? Wishing you many happy years together with your furry friend!

@@Puparazee Well the chewing stories aren't all that "fun" (maybe for her) but I'll share a bit if you want. It started with the blankets I put down for her to lie on. I still had the blankets I used from my last dog but I suspect that Zara (that's the LGD puppy's name) was jealous of the old dog's smell so she started chewing holes in them and pulling out the stuffing. I kept trying to collect up the loose bits and stuff the rest of the stuffing back in and fold over the blanket but she kept on chewing new holes and pulling the stuffing out again. She did that in both locations where I put blankets out for her (my home office and my bedroom). So I had to throw out those blankets and reluctantly give her new ones. She's stopped chewing on the blankets now but she chews just about everything else: me, the chair leg, the brush handle, anything plastic, my walking stick, my shoelaces (thankfully not the shoes themselves - yet), the walls (yes, she can angle her head and teeth in such a way that she can gnaw directly on the flat surface of a wall) and many more things. I buy her chew toys and rawhides, and those work to distract her for a couple of minutes now and then, but then she goes back to her full time job of destroying everything I own. She does the same outside, but this also includes digging and rearranging my landscaping. I'm not sure that she's following a proper drainage plan but we'll see how that works out in spring when the snow melts. It's a bit frustrating but how can one get mad at a puppy? She's actually very affectionate and she is responding to training, but she's teething right now and in her mind anything is fair game.

What a journey you've had with Zara! It seems she's really taken to her role as the chief 'redecorator' of your home. 😅 Puppies, especially large breeds like LGDs, can be quite the handful when they're teething. It's great to hear she's affectionate and responsive to training amidst her chewing escapades. Have you found any particular toy or activity that keeps her occupied longer? Also, it's quite impressive how she's taken to landscaping - maybe she's a budding garden architect! Keep us updated on her antics, and thanks for sharing your story. 🐾🐕‍🦺💕

I have a standard poodle who was a therapy dog. He went to work with me every day beginning at 12 weeks old. Then COVID hit and he started spending more and more time in my daughter's room with her. After she left, he went into a depression that lasted 6 months. She came back after living away for a. year and when she was getting ready to leave, I asked her to take him with her. It killed me, but I couldn't put him through that again. He is as happy as ever living in "their apartment" together, but has serious separation issues. She's still working on that.

I rescued a one year old rat terrier. She had a history of neglect and spent the first year of her life isolated in a backyard shed. She was not house broken, could not walk on a leash and didn’t know how to play with a ball. She was afraid of her own shadow and coward at everything. Over the course of several months, I slowly was able to bring her out of her shell. It began with walks in the backyard, then walks to the bottom of the driveway, then walks two houses away, then three houses away then the end of the block. She’ll be 13 next month, and I’ve never had a dog so tightly bonded to me. She follows me everywhere and spends every evening sitting in my lap. She loves walks. Although she is great off leash, she prefers to have the leash attached because she knows I’m not far away. She will always have some fear and anxiety issues, but she’s a sweet dog and one of the best that I have had.

So, based on this, I was always going to be Howie’s favorite person based on my presence in his puppyhood and now. Well, no wonder he loves me best. I’ve been in the background his entire life and now that he’s approaching 10 years old I had to take him off duty. Sorry, old man, but not sorry. “Your” dog loves me more. I always said Howie would choose me over him as his favorite person. It wasn’t a competition, but that’s probably another win for me with him.

I find that rescues tend to bond strongly with who they see as the one who rescued them. For example, my boy is crazy about my mom, even tough they interact less than him and I! But she is the one who went to pick him up when we decided to adopt him My little girl, in the other hand, showed a strong preference for my sister for months, and even tough we picked her up at the shelter together, she slept her first night in my sister's room. They barely interact now, and I've won the favorite person spot, I believe for the reasons stated in the video

I was one of my neighbor dogs favorite people. We always gave her treats. She was a toy poodle mix. I would pull into my spot in the driveway and she would pop her head up and look out the window about 15 feet away. They would let her out and she would race around till i opened the garage and got her a treat. Anytime she saw us she would race around for us to give her treats. She was a furry little lightning bolt. Run around, stop and crouch, bark a lot, run around more, etc. we gave her little meat treats broken in half. She thought she was getting two. She was a sweet little dog.

@@Puparazee I could tell you loads I'm like that proud annoying parent that talks non stop about her kids but just about my dog 🤣 I'll start at beginning....... My youngest daughter was about 6 when I collected a telly of my dad's cousins daughter , as we walked in this tiny puppy was otherside a stairgate. Now my youngest was petrified of dogs so I didn't expect her to walk in behind me and automatically fuss and stroke this pup. Well 6 months later I just mentioned on Facebook about wanting a dog,and my dad's cousin said her daughter was looking to sell hers. It didn't click at the time it would be the same pup as before. Well I'd spoke with her and arranged to bring my girls to interact with dog for hour or so as wasn't sure how my youngest would react. The meet went great and the dog sat crying when we left. When I spoke with my parents and told them we getting this dog the second I told my dad it was a staffy he told me I was irresponsible to get a staffie with 2 young children and he refused to talk to me for 2 weeks. Anyway I collected the dog and he settled in lovely ,my dad refused to fuss over the dog 🤣 until we attended my eldest sisters wedding prep thing and without anyone knowing my dad came to my house and got the dog, took him for long walk and when my mum walked into the house she caught my dad cuddled up with our dog 😂 Fast forward a few years and my eldest daughter started to withdrawl and seemed very down , I started to notice that the dog would cling to her when she was like this and discovered she was self harming. The next few times I noticed the dog behaving like this I had got to my daughter in time to stop her self harming again. The other year my middle sister was round and our dog wouldn't leave her alone,he sat on her lap and put his head on her chest and refused to move, the next day she tested positive for covid and was extremely poorly. We've had a few times where his behaved similar towards people and they always contact us within a few days and tell us they unwell. I personally haven't noticed him ever respond in this way to me,but he is constantly following me and next to me. I don't leave my house so it's always me and him if my kids are at college or uni. His nearly 12 and I dread the day I have to live without him. His defently brought love and happiness into our lives and mentally saved me and my children. Sorry I did go on .🤣 Our baby boy might be staffie and pushing 12 years but he was the runt of the litter and from a breeding farm that was mixing staffie and pitballs, but our little man is half the size of those breeds and is the softest loving dog I've ever known . His scared of everything, never been problem. He has got out few times but he always goes to my parents house .they only live on the street behind me but he just sits on doorstep. Even my dad admits the dog was a great decision and he was wrong 😋😋😋😋

It’s a great question, but the answer is “not always true”. All 3 of my dogs loved me best, even my youngest, a little girl. I’m AFAB. I was the favorite for different reasons for each dog, but ultimately it’s because I raised all of my dogs like I would my kids if I could have them. My oldest boy Ozzy was my first bodyguard and loved me best because we cuddled all the time together. I used to read him stories, give him his favorite haircut, bathe him, sing to him, and cuddled him when he was startled. In time he became afraid of sleeping in his own bed, so he slept with me. So, as big as he pretended he was, his insecurity was not so easily hidden. Howie, my second bodyguard, loves me best because I helped him jumpstart his recovery from puppyhood illnesses and even now I encourage him to be as active as possible despite his arthritis. I’m also able to coax him out of a barking fit without raising my voice, instead giving him “the look”. I was able to whistle train him again since I’d done it when he was a puppy, and he remembers the different sounds I make and their meanings. So most of our communication is a secret language of sorts, something only the two of us understand. My youngest loves me best for similar reasons to the other two, but it’s also because I was able to train her more often and more consistently than the other people in her life. I’m able to calm her down when she gets riled up, while everyone else gets frustrated. So I can reason with her and dial down her attention seeking behavior. We also do cuddles and kisses, which helps strengthen our bond. It’s hard to resist her adorable little face when she wants a cuddle. Basically the dogs love me best because I’m a calm and incredibly loving parental presence. I accept a dog’s personality, analyze the nuances, study like crazy, and I adapt to the dog. This starts the bonding process, much like in human children. In time the dog comes around to my way to doing things and the bond becomes stronger. It’s different from what dog trainers tell you to do, but it’s more effective and commands more long-term respect than being a loud, obnoxious bossy type of person (which is really what annoys me about people as a species). As I said, it comes down to my parenting style, which is unconditional love and affection for my babies. But this is because my dogs all had similar needs due to their similarities in breeding; spaniels tend to need a gentler hand than, say, a German shepherd. All of my dogs have spaniel ancestry in some way, so my approach works. I tried having other dog breeds and this didn’t work. It’s not because my way was wrong; it was due to differences in personality. Dog breeds are a real thing that influences their personalities and behaviors. That said, a dog will cling onto a person who meets their emotional needs, much like how a child picks their favorite parent.

How many channels do you have? Sick of hearing your voice now.

@@Puparazee you cover pretty much everything already! I must have I recommended at least three, now this too. My ears clash with your presenter voice. I’m autistic and the intentionally affected unnatural speech patterns really unsettle me. Personally I don’t want anyone to try and sound super interesting when I’m already there for the info. It’s just burning extra bandwidth I often don’t possess. Ironically when I watch my own (eclectic and very basic) videos I know I’m putting an affect on my own voice. I’m hearing that more than your actual words now, do I have to avoid you I’m afraid. I must have overdosed on the first channel I watched everything you had, now “I can’t even” as the kiddos say. Maybe one day I’ll get my own Ai voice converter so everyone sounds like vanilla. Then I’ll be back because I like your words If I’m going to fully deepen up, I’m trying to start my own KZbin channel while chronically and moderately ill, I can’t pick one subject to start and here you are proliferating like a boss. I guess a step further takes me to not wanting to be critiqued the way I’m freely critiquing yourself.. but being adhd and autistic means I get to here before realising this. I also have aphantasia so it’s pretty difficult to imagine I’m afnance how this might go, but at least you sir, appear to be the gent you portray in your work. I can appreciate that too. I don’t think I’m thin only one here with a vast and varied interest pool, I just can’t get mine in order for the love of all things useful. So inevitably, thins whole thing is more about me than you, but if you slowed down a fraction, and reduced the enunciation a tad, I’d be moaning about something else, no doubt! 🤣 Thanks for allowing me to go through this little self reflection, I mean no harm. Just too easily overwhelmed. 🤷‍♂️

@@ascgazz7347 Hey, @ascgazz7347, no need to apologize for being blunt-that's how we get the best feedback! I appreciate your honesty and will definitely consider your suggestions about the presentation style. Good luck with your own channel; remember, it's all about taking that first step. I will be your first subscriber!
