I love those soups as well when camping, and like you I eat straight out of the pot. Never tried the rice though, will give it a go next camp. Thanks for sharing Mark.

Gday Mark, I’ve done this for years and I’ve been meaning to tell you about it and kept forgetting! I don’t know if you have it in Oz, but I tend to use Uncle Bens boil in the bag basmati rice. Boil in water, then sling the water and cook up your soup of choice, Chuck in the cooked rice and bang! Even more watery base soups and like you mentioned….it’s like a poor mans risotto…I call it riceotto! 🤣👍 You can also take tins of Chilli Beef and do the same thing, take a couple of soft tortilla wraps and wallop your in! It also worth trying canned curries!! 👍 You can add boiled rice to many canned meals to add bulk to your feed. It’s a great lightweight ’filler’ for camping trips. A friend of mine used to take canned fruit and add porridge to the fruit…he called it - Canned Fruit & Concrete! 🤣 Good anytime, but he had it for breakfast and he could go all day on that shit! 👍 Regards, Dazza. 🇬🇧

I'm with you mate, love the cans of soup. Cheap, easy, tasty af and even better when you add some basic extras as you've done 👌

Heat up the remainder of the rice in the packet - get some Smarties or MM's and chuck them into the packet when the rice is hot - close the packet and let it sit for a minute or so - stir - Bingo desert rice!!! Used to do this all the time when I was in the Army with the freeze dried rice (it was the only way it was edible). Brilliant. Bonus is if you don't eat it all at once, you just close up the bag and take it with you to eat cold.

You can get those rice in half that in a plastic cup twin pack. I always rinse the can out with a small amount of water to get the last good bits out of the can and tip it in to. Cheers Steve.

I like canned soups and stew myself, got quite a few cans in the pantry like you say you never know, and I have added rice too. In the USA Amazon sells those metal ceramic squares for just under $23.00 USD for a 10 pack. I just put Bunsen burner screen in the search block.

I do the same with cuscus. Just boil water chuck in the cuscus let it sit for a few minutes (recommended time is one beer) then throw in the tin of whatever and heat it up. Done! Filling and easy as and tastes pretty good.

Looks like some great bush grub Mark. I wonder if you can use the same technique with say a meat/ vegetable soup and add some of that powdered mash potatoes to thicken it up a bit?
@BikerBits3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I reckon you could! Might have to try it :-)
@wobblysauce3 жыл бұрын
You can, but that needs a little extra water, or you can use a more soupy mixture, and use it to thicken.

I go a step further and pre-prep my meals. Store them in little containers, plonk them in the pot when it’s time to cook and eat. I don’t tent to buy much pre-prepared canned food like that Heinz chunky. It looks a little too much like Pal. Woof woof.

How many outbuildings in the "Victor compound?" I love your DR and ride videos, and both my wife and I love the MCT vids. Watching your vids I am thinking maybe a few smaller outbuildings would be better than one big pole shed...shut up Jim you've had too much beer to be making such decisions:)
