You mentioned Argentina corned beef which is a Filipino brand but it's not remotely the best corned beef in the Philippines. That distinction goes to Purefoods corned beef. Like other local corned beef brands in the Philippines, the consistency is not as mushy like in Libby's or Hereford. Here the consistency is more meaty like shredded pastrami and has a lot more juice. Purefoods has that and overall better flavor and meatiness. A close second is Delimondo. Argentina is considered of lower quality here, a more affordable, cheaper option.

I'm sitting in Sydney right now, I live here. Never heard of Ox & Palm corned beef. When I was at sea on the ocean liners it was well known that Australian corned beef came way down the list of desirability. Having eaten corned beef for nigh on 80 years I can say that cold is best. Hot only with potatoes, never on its own. Tinned corned beef is not salt junk, the sea term for corned beef, which is basically salt pumped (pickled) or just salted beef, which is better than tinned if one wants hot food. Though both tinned and salt junk are great cold.

I decided to make corned beef hash and eggs for breakfast the next day however, when I opened the can of Brookdale brand I was turned off. It was gray making me think air had gotten into the can. I emptied the whole can onto a plate and it was pink and gray. I took a picture and went to Aldi and showed the manager. He gave me another can to replace the one I opened however, two days later when I opened the can, the same! This was shocking as it is made by Hormel. Add your amount of potatoes and let the frost cook off. Add your corned beef in small chunks. I like black pepper in mine too. Corned beef even if cooked from corned or salted brisket does have a certain amount of beef fat. If cooking with canned corn beef the main error is adding to much of additional oils when cooking with onions and cabbage. Chilling a can before opening to eat straight out of a can is another tip, as the excess fat can be isolated. Before spam from the US was made available in WW2 the main canned meet supplied to British and Commonwealth troops as combat rations was corned beef. The bully beef and biscuit (Hard tack in thinned biscuit style) was a field ration staple along with what ever was available plus the ubiquitous vitamin C tablets.

As a kid in the Fifties, and teen in the Sixties here in Western Canada, by far my favourite was Boston Corned Beef from Australia. It was common where I lived then. Disappeared from the radar some time between 1966 and 1988... not sure why. I loved the texture and the taste. No brand today matches it. Anyone have a clue what happened to it? Wish it was still available, unchanged.

As for Exeter, they'd also changed the label to a more modern version, complete with an illustration of the meat content. The copycats hadn't gotten the menu though.

Waiting for Palm to take top spot, but it’s not even on the list despite being mentioned in this channel’s video on the history of corned beef. They’ve done the world a great disservice by omitting this fantastic product, much loved in Oceania. It has real strands of beef and eats nicely hot or cold! 👍🏻

Crown brand from Australia is the best! Can be found in Asian markets. As for corned beef in the Philippines, I find Delimundo, American and Purefoods to be the best ones in the market.

If you do your research you'll find most of those including Libbys and Great Value at Walmart are from Brazil. They are in the same Can and have the exact same stamp on the bottom of the can. Over 90% of canned corned beef is made in Brazil.

That's my understanding of the situation too.... But...Pray tell, how come I cannot find Corned Beef in Chile...."Just down the road" from Brazil? When their product is widely known all around the world?

The SIF stamp on The cans means Federal Inspection Service - (Serviço de Inspeção Federal) , and its mandatory for all The food producers to stamp it on products here in Brazil. Note that The only thing that Will change is The number on this stamp that refers to the company code.

Hamper brand Australian made corned beef is the best I have ever tasted. It is in a yellow tin for anyone in oz. I have tryed every other brand that is available in Australia and they are all well a let down and made in Brazil.

I live in Toronto. You can get most of these corned beef brands in the grocery stores here (you might need find the appropriate ethnically oriented store). Funnily enough, in 50 years I have never seen Libby's corned beef. Hereford and Grace are quite common. Hereford is my favourite from when I was a kid.

Funny that, ‘cause at that time in Canada you could buy Libby’s baked beans and a host of other canned items.

Delimondo corned beef produced in the Philippines is absolutely the best I've ever had. Their garlic and chili flavored is delicious. The ranch flavor is also very good. I mix half and half of both flavors so it's not to spicy for the boys. You definitely missed this one on your list, but you're forgiven. 😉

PUREFOODS Corned Beef is the Superior Brand! Coming from a country that has a lot of corned beefs. Argentina is actually the cheap, less delicious version.

The Aldi one is definitely the best value in my area the taste is great too warmed up with sure thyme, fresh tomatoes and rice, man it’s so good, my Jamaican family loves this as a quick protein packed meal! Eat in moderation though it’s pretty salty and filled with fat.

It is unfortunate that this blog deals in product largely available East of the Rockies and Mississipi River Confusing too is that most of the cans are products of Brazil; further there is a difference between corned beef hash and corned beef in a can and why they are grouped together is not especially helpful as there are other brannds of corned beef available; I have two different ones in my pantry
@stevesmodelbuilds5473 Жыл бұрын
The best canned corned beef anywhere is Filipino brand Delimondo. It comes in regular, or garlic and chili flavor. Like Argentina, it's shredded, but unfortunately it's only available in the Metro Manila area. If you're ever there, bring home a can or two... 😋

I grew up on both Hormel and Libbys versions (vaguely remember the Devil one that came with a white paper type packaging but always thought it was called Devil's Food) Mix it with mashed potatoes is the way my dad used to make patties served with sunny side up or over easy eggs. Also, stir fry with cabbage, onion, and ketchup served with rice. My childhood, completely.

Yup...and YUM!! Growing up in NYC, these were the two corned beef hash brands that were always available. (Also liked Underwood's spreads, like Underwood Deviled Ham Spread, et al. -- that little logo with the devil 😈) I still LOVE Hormel/Libbys/Mary Kitchens hash...stove-top heated in a frying pan (bring on the olive oil & chives!) and a fried egg in the center. YUM!

Underwood was an independent Massachusetts company that made great products. Now it's just a brand owned by a big corporation with a so-so product.

My other mother "mummy Ivy" used to make me shepards pie with Australian Hamper brand corned beef ,onions and tomato. I so miss that dish. No she is not dead (yet) just in a nursing home but still speaks of it to me.

This list is debatable. Ox and Palm isn’t bad at all. I prefer it way ahead than libby’s. The best one I would say is Purefoods from the Philippines, and also Palm. Argentina brand isn’t even close.
