i like to think that it's more meta than we realize. from the production, to the story itself, it represents our current cultural condition. we don't know what we're trying to say or achieve, but we're taking ourselves very seriously in our efforts. everything's so fragmented and in such disarray that there aren't many unifying principles or ways of being. so that any effort to come to any kind of conclusion is futile. i think the fourth-wall break says it all. it's integrated on a very deep level. the film is a metaphor. what would a film be like if it's creation was guided by the same principles and conditions as our very civilization? at the end of the day i just don't want to believe it's bad lol if nothing else it's a middle-finger to the professionalism and business of the film industry. which i think is very needed. it should be an art form, love it or hate it

Great video. I loved the insights. I have to say that from an outside perspective, Megalopolis does't seem to be much of a disaster... so far. 62 on Metacritic with 22 reviews, Letterboxd reviews seem very evenly split and the underdog narrative might make people not so harsh. The reception doesn't seem too far removed from movies like Bardo, Annette or The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Surprised that Twilight of the Warriors isn't as much talked about among Cannes-goers. Thanks for the reviews!

Is the film very different from the script which was insane but good or is it extremely different?
@fantasyfilmball5 ай бұрын
The film takes the same structure but cuts out a lot of the details. All of the plot happens more or less, but I found that the rapid pace of getting through the story allowed for next to no time to explore the themes. So while I thought the old script was fascinating and complex, the film was hollow.
