Its possible to have regular cabbage canned without the sour. Easy and a great addition to storage.

Vivian Ann, I once talked to an Amish Elder who taught me a great lesson. He said, "Every year you get one great crop, can that like crazy, because the next year it probably will not do as well." He told me to try and can up 2 years of food on certain items when the crop is great. As a Prepper, that's wonderful advice all the time. By the way---NO No-No salt! :) Thank you for watching.

Hey , Debbie . Thanks to you , I have canned cabbage today for the first time . I did like you said . It is beautiful in the jar . I am a 75 year old widow and I canned it for convenience. I can't use a great big head of cabbage at a time . So I canned two heads I got from a friend . Thanks again . I love your videos .

Awesome! As a fellow teacher, I can appreciate the fact that you don't assume your students know anything. You're audience is huge so everyone will certainly have different levels of experience. Thank you for a great video from someone who didn't know it was possible to can cabbage! Stay safe!

Thank you very much! :) My friend and I were discussing freezing it, and she told me I couldn't can cabbage without making it into sour kraut. I may have to watch your most excellent video once more to get everything just right, but I will. Your made this when there was really no "doomsday." With Covid 19, however, it seems there just MAY be one by next winter in the jobs and food realm. I am gardening more and will grab every food sale and preserve all I can. Thank you so much for keeping this informative video on you tube.

Thank you for the video. I lived in ND for several yrs (Formerly a city folk) and learned how to can from The wonderful folks who lived in that state. Recently ive been glad for all my jars after a critical acute illness resulting in an autoimmune disease. During flare ups, my husband can easily open jars for dinners with mo need to go shopping. We both love cabbage and i finally have a spot in my storage area for a nice addition to our meals.

Thank you for this video even though I found it 5+ years later. My mom planted cabbage in the garden this year far more then we are able to eat at one time, we will be using this to can the majority. As for the Amish Elder and their advise, ohh yes for sure follow that, its a pattern that holds pretty close in all things, gardens and nature. We watch the oaks to get an idea if a bad winter is coming, the amount of acorns dropped will let you know and so far the years its been heavy acorns have been rather nasty winters.

Hehehe... Well I started some and then bought some because the ones I started weren't doing so well, then they came out of it.. normally I dehydrate mine for long term.. and I may dry a few, but I like the idea of canning them. I had seen Bev's video.. and I was just convinced that canning would make them lose there flavor.. I do like the idea of using distilled water! Thanks Deb!
@midwestkatie49 жыл бұрын
Oh, Deb, how we miss you! I've found that if I heat water to 180 degrees and hold the cabbage at that temp for three minutes i have better results. After that, immediately plunge it into ice water to stop the cooking process. Use hot jars, the cooled cabbage, NO salt, and FRESH boiling water. Pack loosely. Process at 10lbs pressure for 40 minutes, pints or quarts. Good luck everyone.

Thanks for mentioning ways you would prepare your cabbage to eat, Shiral. We always used cabbage for only 2 things growing up; Sauerkraut and Corned Beef & Cabbage. That's the extent of my ideas for cooking it. LOL. So hear I am with two huge heads of gifted cabbage to can, and no idea what I'd do with them in the kitchen later. I'm gonna try your way. Sounds great!

sugarsnap mama, hope you try cabbage rolls too. I absolutely love them but they are messy to make but so worth it.. everyone in the family loves them I always sterilize a 50cent piece and stick one deep inside of a cabbage roll before cooking ...on new years . Whom ever gets the money will not be broke all year.. LOL its a tradition my daddy passed on to us ... my grandson said Mamaw I got the money on new years right? Now exactly why am I always broke? I responded with the same answer my daddy gave me, " You are suppose to keep the 50 cent piece and not ever spend it that way you are never broke... LOL

Dang I brought the jam and it is cabbage today! LOL I love this idea... cabbage can take a long time to cook and this takes the time factor and the expensive winter prices out of the problem. I love making lazy cabbage roll casserole! This would also work in krout kuga's and make it a easier process. Krout Kuga's are (it vary's from region to region) pork and beef roast cut into tiny pieces mixed with cabbage and onion then put in bread dough pockets and baked. I will do a vid one day!
