I'm 73 years old, and I found a slip of paper in one of my Mom's old cookbooks. On it was a recipe in my GRAND mothers handwriting for how to can apples for pies. It was just like what you have done here. I always have canned my apples this way since I found her recipe.

Did this 2 years ago in a 5 gallon bucket when my trees gave us more then an abundance. Yes they are crisper and will make wonderful pies. I think this is the best way to jar up apples.

Very pretty. My mother use to talk about sulfur apples. She said her mother layered them in a crock. The funny thing she put the crock on step to upstairs where the boy slept. She said grandmother Redmon was upset when she went to get some and found the kids had been seaking apples when they go up or down.

Canned apples today (12 pints), following your instructions. They're not only delicious, they're beautiful! Thank you Miss Lori.

I’m so glad to see this video! This is exactly how I want mine to turn out! I don’t like them soggy. Thanks so much. I know this is an older video. I can meat all the time and beans and broth etc. I need to do fruit. I love this process. God bless! Thanks

My Momma taught me to alternate tops & under sides of lids so they don't stick together in the water. That means you need a small saucepan to lay them in. I use a quart. Something smaller would work even better if you have it. Place a lid top side up in bottom. Place a lid under side up on top of it. Continue til all your lids are in.

Just had the first taste of these apples, I had my sister in law, whose specialty is baking, make us an apple pie using 2 quarts of theses apples, she put in 1/4 cup of sugar, some cinnamon & lemon juice. The apples were not mushy, still had life to them & had a great fresh taste to them. I will get more apples to make more this year. Thank you!

Genius way to preserve just apples! Not pie filling or butter, just plain apples to be able to use in other recipes or eat plain. Thanks so much for sharing this method!

Can you do the full recipe including how long you leave the apples in the crock. How much apple cider is needed? Also, how many lbs. of apples?

I just received several apples, I'm trying to figure out what do with them. This seems easy enough to do, I might try it. Thanks for showing us this method. 😊
