Instead of using a pressure canner, can this be done with a hot water bath- jars in boiling water for X amount of time like I do my tomatoes and salsa?
@Simplylivinglifethebestican2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that method is not recommended because this has meat in it
@LivingForJesusMennoniteMom2 жыл бұрын
Not advice- JUST personal experience.. Not recommended but personal experience is water bathing for 3 hours at a rolling boil and learned to make sure the jars are totally covered an inch over the top of the jar... Make sure to cook/boil it for at least 10 min before tasting it to be safe. Just personal experience. Not advice or recommended

Looks good 👍 I don’t understand why people feel the need to criticize your video. You canned correctly according to the USDA guidelines I’ve seen. I am going to try to do this method. The last time I canned ground meat, it sealed up fine but it smelled like dog food when I opened the jars 😫
Enjoy all your videos, and always gain some knowledge. There is a point I would like to bring up. Not all, in fact, probably most wells in the US do not have hard water, my well included.. This statement floats around KZbin a lot, and miss leads folks.

Why are spices dangerous in canning. I used onion powder in a hot pack chicken. Is it a botulism fear or just a nasty taste long term.
@tamrakds2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes spices turn bitter in the canning process. I find it easier to flavor when I warm it up.

can you tell me if a canner is the same as a normal pressure cooker as it has no dials on but can you can like what you do in them as well
@brow2764 жыл бұрын
What you have is likely a water bath canner which isn’t approved to can low acidic foods or meat.

In your opinion what is the shelf life of that meat you just canned. Nice video by the way. I am now a subscriber. @@Simplylivinglifethebestican
@rickeyauthement72535 жыл бұрын
@@diannaa6189 Dianna I have been canning for over 20 years now. Shelf life for meats whether its chicken, pork, deer, beef, etc is almost unlimited as long as it was canned properly. I bought chicken breast on sale for .50 a lb bought over 100 pounds of it and I am still eating it that was 8 years ago. I make chicken salad, chicken soup, chicken enchiladas, etc, the recipes are endless. the beauty of canning in jars is the food will only touch the glass and there are no leaching of anything metal. There are a few good videos of people opening canned foods 10-15-20 years after canning with good results.

I see people that can meat IN fat. Now I see you actually rinse all the flavor/fat off of the meat. This is confusing. So what's wrong with the fat?
