For those of us that don’t have our mothers anymore, seeing you with yours brings warm feelings and good memories to mind. My mom would can a soup she liked to make that had a mixture of tomato, zucchini, and onion in the jar. It was delicious. Thanks for sharing your mom/daughter time and for reminding me of good times with my mom.

I learned canning from my sweet mother-in-law. She would work all day in a factory then teach me canning all late summer/fall. She’s since passed away but I never pull out that canner without thinking of how she invested in a new daughter-in-law and taught me a skill that I’m still using forty-three years later! Special memories you’re preserving as well sweet ladies! That one pot dinner looks delish! Thank you for sharing a busy day with us!

Quick note on the plant at 16:29: That's a Hoya Kerii Variegata. Those kinds of cuttings are usually being sold on Valentine's Day since they look like little hearts. Most of them unfortunately won't grow further since there are no other active nodes on those vines. But sometimes, if you are lucky enough, the cutting you got might have just enough tissue that will produce new leaves with time. I heard most people aren't as lucky, but there is always a chance! 🤗

Mine was a little trio of leaves on a little stem. This summer it exploded with growth and 2 new heart leaves. But I had heard if you buy the heart leaf stuck straight into soil, that's all you'll have

My mom never canned. However, my best friend and I used to spend weekends at an old neighbor lady's home, who had moved away but was like a 2nd mom to us. She canned, made jams and jellies, butchered chickens, had big gardens.... all the things! We would help her and it was so much fun. That was so many years ago.♡ My job was to blanch and remove the skins. I can still remember how hot those tomatoes would be when they came out of the water. ♡ Your dinner looked so delicious! I love quick and easy dinner recipes. I will give it a go! Have a great holiday weekend.

Hey Laura, regarding the variegated Hoya Kerrii, it depends on how it was propagated. Often times they are propagated as a single leaf for gifts around Valentine’s Day and they often times do not get part of the stem and a node. In that case, it will grow roots but will not grow new leaves. If they did get some stem and a node , then it should be able to grow for you. You’ll have to pull it out and see.

Reminds me of the time, many years ago, when we gleaned tomatoes from a field here in the Central Valley of California - 15 five-gallon buckets full. We gave a couple of buckets to a friend on the way home. Next day we pressure-canned about 135 quart jars of quartered tomatoes. I say “we” because my hubby and two young sons helped. We had quite the assembly line going!

Something that we use the most and is super easy to can is tomato juice! You don’t have to cook or take off the skin of the tomatoes. You do need a Victorio strainer or kitchen aide attachment to put the tomatoes through, but really only takes a couple hours. We use it in soups and stovetop dishes! 😊

You and your mom make it look so simple canning those tomatoes! I know it is a big process and a lot of work. If you wanted to, you could of added a basil leaf or two to the jars when you put in the tomatoes. But anyway they looked so delicious and so did dinner!

Lots of work, but the memories for the kids is unmeasureable. Time spent with the family is the best.

Hi Laura! That was a great tomato harvest for canning, and will be so nice having them on hand. It's always fun seeing your Mom in your videos, and seeing Benjamin and Samantha Grace enjoying themselves while you both work in the kitchen. The tortellini dish looks delicious! It looked like Aaron was ready for dinner. ;-) It was sweet of your Mom to groom all of those houseplants for you. They look so much better now. Thank you so much for sharing!

My mom cans a variety of stuff every year, everything she grows she cans. She sells her goodies at her farm stand. I am new to canning, I’ve helped my mom over the years but never took it on my self. I’ve been canning for 3 years and can attest that the first time you can you literally make everything you possible can come up with. My favorite thing to make by far are pepper jellies, so delicious!

Putting your cutting board in a sheet pan to catch juices is GENIUS! I will definitely be doing that from now on.
