The SystemSix name is an apt one this time around. It's Cannondale's first road foray into a complete integrated package. We've seen SI splashed on Cannondale products for many years, but this is truly their first top to tail bike where everything has been incorporated in the design and development phase. From the wheels up. We took a look at the new bike at the recent launch held in Girona, pro territory.

Not only does it look hideous, it's cheap and without it the whole bike feels better. Shifts better, feels lighter, less sluggish. (Replaced it with a Spiderring)

Sorry but specialized new Venge did a better job with the styling cable routing and stem. I wanted to like this bike from the early rendering but the final product looks like a cheap blocky mess. The stem spacers and cable routing looks cheap. The graphics package on the frame and wheels look like a Chinese copy of madfiber wheel graphics. The addition of a power meter with 10 year old chainrings is downright confusing. The only thing I like about the bike is the internal width of the rims which make 23 tires have the contact patch of 26. I’m sorry the new Venge with a Dura Ace crank and SRM exact power pedals would be my choice for a lust worthy bike. If your going to spec an OEM bike don’t jack up the price and install a power meter that you want to swap out as soon as you get the bike.

Will be frustrating if they don't make a frameset/fuselage available. I don't like being forced to use Shimano or having to accept the wheels, or that chainset. Having to stick with OEM (albeit good kit) is a growing trend in modern bikes - Giant Propel similarly restricted to Shimano.

Cannonade are smart and are looking ahead. His response of ' it's a fast road bike' is a spot on. Look at cars, we don't have an aero Honda Civic and a non aero car - we have cars - fast ones and slow ones. All cars optimize their aerodynamics, some more than others but it's always a consideration for fuel economy. This is the future of road bikes, it's about saving energy and going faster, what a road bike should do, why call it an aero bike over a road bike?
@ariffau
@ariffau 6 жыл бұрын
Aidan Mouellic irrelevant, your point is. I am so sorry. Cars are segmented. Hatchbacks, Sedan, SUVs, MPV, Crossover. Sorry to break it to you but I am a market researcher, I know my (marketing) stuff. What Cannondale is doing is not smart, I think. Rather confusing. So they have fast bikes and other bikes that aren't as fast. What if consumers want a fast bike and found that they are not comfortable? Stick with what the market has. Aero fast and aggressive stance. GC all rounder Endurance for more relaxed stance at slower speed. Less confusion to the market, easier sales for them (perhaps)
@aidanmouellic5919
@aidanmouellic5919 6 жыл бұрын
Arif Fauzan All cars travel at speeds in which aerodynamics matter, even SUVs are aero optimized. Fact is, this is a road bike - why have aero road bikes and non aero road bikes? You have mountain bikes, gravel bikes, TT bikes and road bikes. Heck, even climbing bikes, but before the climb you gotta get there. All road bikes are also 'endurance bikes'.

I'm sure that since Cannondale shifted operations from the USA (Bedford Pa) to China they are able to manufacture these's bikes at a fraction of the cost over there. Personally i'm glad to see that they're $11,000 for the top of the line bike Dura Ace equipped model, maybe NOW they'll consider moving back to the USA and bring back the jobs that were lost! The problem with aero bikes and deep wheels (whether or not this guy and his marketing department want to call it an aero bike) is mentioned during the review. It's cross winds. On a calm day or riding straight into a head wind, you're golden, but any cross winds will blow you across the road (into the path of a car or another rider etc) and that just sucks. It gets tiring fast constantly having to fight to keep the bike going straight down the road. No thank you. This is a niche product, I forecast weak sales.

While Cannondale the company is still based out of CT, its parent company Dorel is Canadian. Or Quebec according to certain Canadians. It also owns GT, Schwinn, Mongoose, and IronHorse. I believe many people associate these brands with US owned firm, but it simple the operations side of things. All of them manufacture outside the US. Trek is one of the few major brands that has very limited runs of US built bikes. Those are the range topping bikes only. There are a few small firms that still make their bikes in the US, but these are often bespoke operations. Specialized is nearly half owned by Merida, who builds all the bikes in their Taiwan factory. Merida bikes made under their name are designed in Germany. In truth, most bikes from most bigger brands are an international affair.
@kennethwise7108
@kennethwise7108 6 жыл бұрын
Michael Meysarosh, honestly not many people even care where it's made and thank you for replying and informing us about the Cannondale company. Personally speaking I'm all about items being 100% American made. I say a 25% tariff isn't enough, President Trump should have made it 50% tariffs. These bikes used to be manufactured right in my own backyard in Pa and now they're being manufactured in China. I'm not a buyer or fan, even if it was 1/16 of their asking price. This company used to take pride in the fact that these bikes were manufactured in the USA. Greed got the best of them and I hope they don't sell ONE of them. "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN"
@mmeysarosh
@mmeysarosh 6 жыл бұрын
Cannondale would have gone into the history books if not exporting its frame manufacturing. It was in bankruptcy in 2003 and was sold to an investment group that turned the brand around to sell it to Dorel for nearly four times their purchase price. In the least the engineering remained mostly in the US, but I can simply state that no company could every produce a entry to mid level carbon road bike in the US at competitive price. Getting the layup schedule into the mold is labor intensive and only on high end models are the margins strong enough to make a profit. If you apply tariff or local manufacturing, the price of the lower tier carbon machines would simply be out of reach of more consumers. That could only be mitigated if further advancement in robotics would reduce the labor force required for a given number of bikes. In truth, there really wasn't any greed in this particular scenario. You can really see the limitations of the engineering department for having such a late entry into the aero segment. Using something like ProE to complete the structural frame design is one cost factor that is the similar to any bike. Adding the CFD time and really expensive tools like Fluent wasn't something they had the resources for. This bike is hardly sold in any significant volume and development costs are higher than standard road bike. One example of US production is Allied. Arkansas if I recall correctly and some pretty bespoke paint work. Trek does so only on their OLCV700 bikes. Parlee is another well know bespoke maker. Look at the pricing of any of these and you can see the requirements to make a US production facility profitable. I'm not a big fan of Chinese manufacturing for a number of reasons as I don't consider them ethical in human treatment, financial regulations, environmental factors, intellectual property theft, and others. Just don't believe that manufacturing is returning in mass to the US any time soon unless much of factories become highly automated.
