When is the housing too long and when is it too short. What you should do with the housing after cutting it and how to replace the cable. Enjoy working on your bikes!

Tip: before you cut an outer cable, put a piece of an old inner cable into the outer. That way, the outer cable won't deform as much.

Aha! Good one, cheers for that 👍🏻

This refers to preventing the teflon or polymer liner from ovalising or closing up during cutting to length .

I love how super technical you get on your videos. Always precision and super high quality tips on every install. Definitely a class above the avg mechanic

In my country there is a funny proberb, it goes like this. “I cut it three times and it was always short.” 🤣🤣🤣

I agree with everything except for the mid cable housing. Given that it is fixed at both ends it should be a smooth curve. Yours has three curves.

That's some wobble on that rear wheel, I think that new cable has just doubled the value of the bike 😅

What brand is your cable cutter?

A bundle of housing offcuts of known lengths can help to determine final length .

It's one of the simplest thing yet a sh*ton of people mess this up 😂 *Lex SL isn't pre lubed the PTFE inner sleeve is supposed to act as a lubricant. I'm not a huge fan of it when you add mineral oils to PTFE it tends to degrade and accumulate in some bends.

For some tires (such as Continental "X" King), when I put the rolling direction inverted (on the front tire), I notice more grip in curves, precisely because there are intermediate (and lateral) studs in the way the tire Scorpion "XC M" is manufactured - it's difficult to try to explain this..., but it's something like that, the side of the intermediate and lateral spikes, when you turn the handlebars, are more perpendicular to the movement (and not in the direction of movement of the recommended rotation), providing, in my perception, a feeling that these studs are more "ready" and enter the terrain more, giving a greater feeling of predictability and safety in the curves. Of course, I imagine there will be some loss of roll with this, but, up front, I prefer predictability in curves. This would be a suggestion for a video theme to be more illustrative, perhaps contacting the opinions of drivers not sponsored by tire companies, independent studies and even companies that manufacture tires with side stud patterns such as the Pirelli Scorpion "XC M".

I disagree with 3:15 based on comprehensive testing .

I agree, more cable outer = tighter radius = more friction.

@@robertmcfadyen9156 The time stamp you provided is for the section of cable outer that transitions from under the top tube to the drive side seat stay. "more cable outer = tighter radius = more friction" refers to that piece of cable outer. Cable outers that are routed with tight radii produce more cable friction. As far as the small piece of cable outer that runs from the chain stay to the rear derailleur barrel adjuster, he is correct. He uses a longer section to increase the radius of the bend to reduce cable friction. Having said that, there are trade offs. If I'm building a lightweight bike I'll cut cables and outers as short as is practical. Clearly reliability is more important than weight savings on the bike he's working on.
