I honestly think this is one of the most well-rounded rides out there. Great layout, fun transitions, strong positives, whip, hangtime, and good pacing that keeps getting better the farther you get into the layout. I rode it a week after opening and it was blazing through its layout; the last turn before the ninth inversion was strong enough to induce graying-out. Throw in trains that easily compete with B&M hyper trains for comfort and you have an elite beast of a ride. At most parks this would be #1; only reason it’s not is because of Phantom

I've been everywhere on the east coast, Steel Curtain and Phantoms Revenge are 2 of the smoothest coasters I've been on. They are great for people just getting into the bigger more intense rides. Riding Millennium Force 5 minutes after CP opens (an hour after you wake up) isn't the best idea, but it wakes you up lol. Also being form Pittsburgh might make me a bit bias lol

It's interesting how the North American inversion record was set in 1988 by Shockwave and would not get surpassed for over 30 years. I really liked the pacing on Steel Curtain, none of the elements felt repetitive to me. Between S&S and Vekoma, I am thrilled to see multi-loopers making a comeback. As far as loading trains with employees for test cycles, when I worked at SFNE, we did just that on Bizarro on a cold day very early in the season the day after it valleyed on a morning test run.

This was a good investment for Kennywood, they already have a Hyper in Phantoms but thus is so much more unique that they had to get it. And it gave the park more inversions which they needed. This ride is probably perfect for mixing positive Gs with airtime with inversions. Plus, ad in tons of near misses and very comfortable trains and you got a fantastic ride. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELLL MEEEE! Is this ride intense? Like how many times throughout the ride do you feel that horrific stomach flying in the air feeling? I have a season pass to Kennywood and this is the only coaster I haven't ridden there and I'm scared to death because of the lift hill. Someone please mentally prepare me, how intense on a scale of 1-10 is it? I love skyrocket even though it gives that horrible stomach feeling on the first hill because of how quickly you fly up the hill. My anxiety can't handle all the waiting, checking and slow lift hill that is involved with this ride. If it was a launch coaster, I'd ride it in a heartbeat. I just know I'll have an anxiety attack because of all the time that is involved with getting people strapped in and the steep and super long lift hill.

My only other issue is that whist it reaches a height of over 200' the drop doesn't. Nothing personal: for me Steel Curtain isn't a hyper coaster, but Phantom's Revenge is (and while I may talk out of my ass re personal experience:) Phantom's Revenge has a 220' drop whereas Steel Curtain doesn't even have a 200' drop.

If it is called Steel Curtain, does that mean the supports are called ‘Curtain Rods?’ Joking aside, a new coaster had been in the works for well over a decade, with the original concept being a terrain coaster that would’ve utilized the shed at the bottom of the ravine (the plans of which can still be found online). When Steel Curtain was unveiled, it went completely out-of-bounds to what I and other former employees had expected. As for its reception, local opinion is mixed. Some still lament the Log Jammer’s removal while others embrace the coaster while-heartedly. While I tend to lean toward the latter camp, I wonder if the Log Jammer still would exist had the original design been utilized.

Unpopular opinion, but I like Steel Curtain better than Phantom's Revenge. This is for two main reasons. One, the cars/seats. Though Phantom's Revenge has those legendary lapbars, which I do like, the thing that has soured the experience for me my last few rides has been the size of the seat, specifically the distance from the back of my seat to the back of the seat in front of me. If I don't push my lapbar down far enough, I'll slide forward and smash my knees on the back of the seat in front of me, which can be quite painful. I can somewhat remedy this by essentially stapling myself so that I don't slide forward, or by sitting in the front of a car, but its kind of stupid that I have to take these things into account on Phantom and can't just enjoy the ride. On Steel Curtain, you don't have to worry about that at all. The seats are much more open, and are separated further between each other, making knee banging a non-issue. Two, the layout. While Phantom's Revenge definitely has Steel Curtain beat in terms of ejector airtime, there really isn't much else to the ride, with the exception of speed. Steel Curtain is a much more well-rounded coaster, and does several things Phantom's Revenge doesn't do. It has hang time, good positives, whip, several inversions, etc. It even has airtime moments, albeit less intense than Phantom's. Overall, its just the more complete package.
@thepuncakian20243 жыл бұрын
@@bmfanboy8838 I think the airtime moments are intense, but they aren't as sustained or intense as the ejector moments on El Toro or Skyrush. I think in order for Phantom's Revenge to be a truly elite ride, its airtime moments would need to need to be able to stand on their own, but they really don't in my opinion and it needs something else to complement them.

As a Pittsburgh local, born and breed I HATE this coaster. It's ugly af, it panders to our most annoying demographic and it's placement in a 125 year old park was just dumb. The way that park stayed relevant was it's notstalgic connection to the past. Generations of Pittsburgh families going to the park having a similar experience their processors had. The park would always stay relevant with some kinda modern ride, but their roots is what kept people coming. There are a few rides that should never be pulled that's exactly what they did for this monstrosity. If that ugly thing would tip over, it could easily take the worlds 7th and 2nd oldest coasters with it as both now sit in it's shadow. They wanted something special, a new wooden coaster would have fit the park better. I haven't been to kennywood in 20yrs, would have gone for a new wooden coaster
