@Carterridescoasters There are many ways to design ARB systems, some don't have ratchets at all, others have additional systems to reduce or remove the sound of the advancing dog, the dogs can also be padded to reduce sound, and having fewer stronger ARB dogs can reduce the noise as long as the train can be held in tension or compression. This train has 6 small ARB bogs, one on each car that are spring loaded and appear to have some nylon or pom pad to reduce noise but it is not very effective. I expect we will see improvements to the train periphery designs if they sell more similar rides.

It's definitely a front row ride. They made some adjustments to the trains recently and I took a back row ride two days ago and the vibration was less noticeable. Still though, front row is the best place to ride. Also... "Man, that was a big hit Billy."

I rode it very early on opening day near the back of the train and then again last weekend at night near the front. It was such a different experience. I still had a good time on my first ride, but it definitely had some rattle and it kind of went by in a blur. The only part I remembered specifically loving being the airtime hill plus the dive loop right after it. This past time was amazing though and I genuinely enjoyed the entire ride. My favorite part is still that little section over the lagoon, but I had so much more fun and would absolutely rate it higher after that ride than my first one. Then I rode multiple times over and over later in the day and it was hauling. Currently, this is the coaster that has made me grey out the most. I305 will probably take that record, but it's so fun later in the day. Front row all the way. Ops were ok, but I went on a good day and the line barely got 5 mins. A couple few points. I was there they day you were and I was also on the 1st train of the day, in the front row. The ride was running extremely slow and lacked pacing and forces. I bought a front of the line pass so I rode it 9 times before it closed in many rows. The back row is the worst row on the ride. It feels like a back massage. Second to back row is a significant difference and is much better and much smoother. The front is easily the best row once the ride warms up. My final ride was with Micah from coaster frenzy in the front row, which was right before it closed and that was when the ride was the fastest. The front had amazing hangtime on the first inversion. It had much better forces in the front when warmed up. It also had great ejector. Sorry you got only one ride on it and it was in the worst seat.

Just rode this for the first time on 8/19, front row, right after the sun set for the day. It was fantastic. Phantom is intense and fun, but SC now seems like the ride to beat at Kennywood. The pacing is great when it’s warmed up, the airtime hills catch you by surprise, and the stall over the walkway is perfect. The only downsides to this ride are the slow lift hill and the lack of an intense first drop, but the fact that the world’s tallest inversion leads into the first drop more than makes up for it. I’d give it a 9/10. I hope you can ride it again soon, and keep up the good work!!

I understand your opinion. I rode the very first ride on Media Day. I had this exact opinion. Then I rode it continuously. By noon(if it is open) this thing can haul very well. After the banana roll this thing will keep going. Overall, if you ride it again in the front afternoon or later, it would be a 8-9 on the CS rating scale. Still like Phantom better, but Taylor, this coaster does deserve a second chance, I’ve ridden this almost 20 times since it opened(6 times on Media Day) so i know what I am saying, night ride + front row is the best.

We were there less than a week ago, and didn't get on it. Between the 8-10 minute dispatches and weather that kept shutting down the rides, we decided it was better to wait for next time as it barely ran during the time we were there. Instead, I took 4 rides on skyrocket (finally back in operation!), rode phantom's revenge and wooden coasters, probably got 8 coaster rides in all, versus spending my whole time in Steel Curtain's line waiting in the vain hope to get a ride. I don't live too far, maybe 90 minutes, so I was ok waiting for a better day to attempt it. Felt bad for you guys though when I saw the vlog!

It's really kind of sad, IMO, that Steel Curtain was such a let down. I remember you got to talk with Preston from S&S about this coaster at IAPPA, and despite your skepticism of the whole Steelers theme it was high on your list of anticipated new-for-2019 coasters just because of how unique & bizarre the layout is. And then you only got one (bad early morning) ride on it because of technical issues, after having made a special trip to Kennywood just for it. Even if it's not quite a Top 25 coaster by your standards (judging by the fact that you tend to prefer super-intense coasters with lots of ejector air), I'm pretty confident that you would've given this ride an 8 or 9 had you experienced it in the front row after the trains had the chance to warm up.

@adazinventionz31715 жыл бұрын
I think the first inversion is the best, because of the hang time. It has better hang time in the front than the zero g stall. People say this is a forceful ride (positive Gs), but I didn’t get that. Since the half loops are so tall, they are very lose, making them not that intense. The way this ride is most forceful is with laterals.

I’ve talked to a person who works for palace entertainment and was involved in the design process and intamin had a pitch for a layout that would have went around the lake and would have been like a 200ft maverick. But they didn’t want to make phantom obsolete so it’s obvious they didn’t want to make it overkill the phantom. And I also wish that you would go back and ride it a few more times before you genuinely review it cause riding it later in the day is the key to this ride.

You need to come back to Pittsburgh and ride it again! Alot of the kinks have been worked out! If you ever get to Pittsburgh I got you!!

Wow you’re telling me that I’ve ridden SC twice as many times as the great Taylor Bybee? Insane! Jokes aside, you forgot to mention that the Steelers announcer and color analyst are the voices of the ride in the queue, which I thought was a great touch. I love this ride for its uniqueness and I definitely agree that it’s a front row ride, sorry you didn’t get that opportunity. Also what’s your coaster count at now after Japan? Just curious.

I really liked it. It isn't super intense, but is super fun! I think that pacing is one of its strengths The lift hill starts out super slow, but it does speed up as the train climbs the lift hill. I rode in the third row and felt that the ride did have a slight rattle, but was surprisingly smooth for how much acrobatics it travels through.

I'm going to Kennywood for my first time and wanna know from someone who's gotten to ride steel curtain a bunch, what's the best row to ride?
@MJMWMJMW5 жыл бұрын
Definitely as close to the front as you can get. If you're only going to get to ride this ride once, I think it's worth the extra wait to get front seat.

I’ll be honest, and not just because I’m from Pittsburgh, but every single person I talked to said this was a phenomenal coaster. I work right across the river from Kennywood and I see this ride running all day every day. When this first came out, they were having operational issues for the first couple weeks or so but every day after that, the ride has been running consistently and smoothly. I was a bit worried about the lift hill speed at first so I understand what you’re saying here. Why they wouldn’t put the most torque and horsepower into the machine powering the lift chain is beyond me. I feel that’s a very Kennywood thing to do. Ever ride the Phantom’s Revenge, you get on the coaster soon after park opens and by the time you make it to the top of the hill, the park is closing. It’s terrible. Sad you only got one ride on it and I haven’t ridden it yet myself but like I said, my friends and I are all coaster junkies and from everything I’ve heard, this coaster is amazing and silk smooth. Wouldn’t be my choice for a new coaster both in style and manufacturer, but still can’t wait to ride it!

Have you thought about doing a segment about re visiting rollercoaster ranking a few years later? Like doing a five year review on Steel Vengeance in five years to see if anything changed.
@PittsburghSonido4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand how you can judge it for being slow when you yourself said you rode it at the beginning of the day (when it's slow). No hate, I am just wondering why that would be your final conclusion on the coaster. I rode it around mid afternoon last year and it went great. I only rode it once, so I can't really judge myself either. It was really smooth and fast.
@JakeWerkmeister5 жыл бұрын
This is an odd coaster. I got on it in the afternoon, and sat in the front car. It surely didn't feel like 75mph. Really dug the experience, but it felt tame. I rode it at the end of the night from the back. Yup, THAT felt up to speed. See, oddly, I noticed the vibration from the front during the first ride. Didn't notice it from the rear during the second. I do know that I rode both cars. Still trying to figure this on out. My first impression mirrors your review. My second ride was about as intense as the Phantom. I think that this is one of those coasters that grows on you after every ride.

I got a second row ride on opening day. I actually really liked it! But I do agree that my favorite part is the second half. I'm very excited to get back and ride it during phantom fright nights. I don't know if it's because I'm a little heavier than I used to be, or just because I'm getting older, but phantom's revenge HURTS. I'm always tempted to get on it and it's fantastic until the bunny hills at the end. I've had plenty of rides with airtime like that that didn't throw me around in the seat. I think it needs some updating. I'm not sure what, but something.
@Duffster1155 жыл бұрын
I would rate it a 10 it is a great fun coaster the ride was designed to be intense but not to intense and the ride designer made it so there isn't so much positive G's because they wanted it to be re rideable. I also don't like the idea of greaying out on a coaster so I am glad Kw did what they did. It is a really great paced ride fast from start to finish with a top speed of 76 mph and is my new favorite in the park! (The comment was edited because I stupidly spelled Paced wrong)
