The only elastic bungee slingshot ride that operates in the US that I know of, is Vertical Accelerator at Cobra Adventure Park in PCB, Florida. If you can, you should try to ride that before it's gone, I've heard its really intense!

I knew they had started to disappear, but didn't realize there may just be one in the US now.

Aren’t springboxes supposed to be significantly safer? Call me a wimp, but I’ll trade off intensity for safety.
@CanobieCoaster12 күн бұрын
Yes, so I get why parks prefer to add that version nowadays.

It’s safe until it’s not safe. This attraction has been on South Pier for over 20 years. If there was just one ride per day, that’s 7,300 rides without anyone dying. I had a burst appendix a few years ago. Chance of death from a burst appendix is 1:72. Chance of death from a slingshot ride on South Pier cannot be calculated because no one has died. I’m from Blackpool and know that there’s a high likelihood that people going on this ride are going to be a) intoxicated and b) of above average weight. No responsible operator would be in business without understanding variables a) and b). Hence: this attraction is still operating after 20+ years.

I’ll do the springbox slingshots in a heartbeat, but the elastic band ones are statistically some of the most dangerous rides in the industry. I’m sure a well maintained one is safer than a poorly maintained carnival ride, but even pristine ones have had accidents.

Completely understand. I get why this model is being phased out.

Man I could never ever do this hahaha, kudos to you for doing them & reviewing for us!!

Thanks! I knew the risk and took a chance since I suspect it will be obsolete soon.

Are you going to make a top rides countdown video for south pier? Also that slingshot ride looks fun but kinda terrifying

Yes

The absolute only amusement ride I would genuinely question going on due to safety concerns- and Canobie still reviewed it like a champ. Unfortunately I think this review has convinced me to not pay money for any Funtime slingshot ride and instead seek out its objectively dangerous/ criminal counterpart. I should have assumed the vastly more sketchy one was way more fun! Statistically, it *probably* won't be you it snaps on... but be sure to give any potential riding buddies the full safety spiel as I think its morally wrong for anyone to go on one of these without realizing the risk. I am an avid snow skiier as well and I guess I need that risk for any real sense of fear as other standard amusement rides don't scare me anymore... outside of when I went on the Thrillagascar at American Dream or a SCAD Tower. Not sure everyone else is okay with that risk though. Obligatory link to the Coaster College vid on this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5O7ZZ-kod6saJIsi=UY9TOTAB_lWJdBXy

I knew the risk and took a chance. Especially since most of the incidents when they occur have not been life-threatening. But they are inherently more risky than any other amusement ride. I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be as good, but it was far better.

On the european fair, they are still used. The spring box bungee are boring and we know it. So no no to the spring box. Bungee jumping is less safe, there you only have 1 bungee, here 2 and if 1 snapts, you dont die
@CanobieCoaster11 күн бұрын
Haven't tried bungee jumping yet.

These bungee slingshots are not safe. Please think long and hard before riding one. This video has more info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmnQd4qogrutmq8

The odds of something going wrong are slim, but I agree these rides are more unsafe than your standard ride. I made sure to make note of that in the video.

These are the one rides, that I will never do. They had way too many accidents.
