Real nice Video. I have one more tip for you. Always tie your boat off and flip it over at night. A nice light boat like yours can get blown away easy and flipping it over keeps your seat dry. And being alone you do not want to lose your boat. Hope to paddle with you soon, John.

Very nice. You do a great job on your videos. Yes, Conewango only has that one island campsite. And it has the slipperiest mud known to mankind! Tip for the eggs: scramble them up and put them in a little plastic recycled bottle, like the kind you get a small milk or juice from McDonald's in. The lid screws on tight. A little more water in your pancake mix, then cut a small hole in the corner of your plastic bag and squeeze it out into pan, if you didn't already. And I agree with John V. on always tying off your canoe to a tree at night as you never know when a wind will kick up. Also, I assume you pack your coffee grounds home with you - you are a good man!

Sorry to 'critique' but as someone who grew up running that river down into Warren PA where it joins the Allegheny... when the spring ice broke up and we were dodging icebergs and logs RAGING in the typically docile waters... the name of the creek is appropriately pronounced 'kon-a-wong-go' by locals in Western PA., (rumored to mean 'canoe won't go' in the Iroquoi language... that's a pun! Yes, it' spelled wrong!) We only ran the Conewango in spring flood or after heavy rains, it was too hard on the canoe's in the summer months, but it was AWESOME during the spring run off. l am feeling relaxed just watching your trip,especially when we camp,fish or hunt by ourselves,l know l just feel more free and relaxed for obvious reasons.This creek you are paddling on looks almost like our Minnesota river in Minnesota.One question l have,if you were at another camp sight without a lean too how would mitigate heavy rain in your hot tent sleeping on the ground?Those hot tents really look cool.Just curious.Here in MN we have a bunch of rivers,many are fairly close to our big city,have watched a few more local paddling patrons canoe and camp.Many of which flow thru developed ares but you wouldn' know it actually in your canoe on the water.Your beautiful video of New York and camping/paddling might force me off the couch earlier than l might have otherwise,happy camper.

Hey I'm just glad I could give ya a little push to get out soon! As for hot tenting in the rain, I've never done it and that's a really good question! I have to assume using a cot would be ideal..

Hey love your videos just subscribed. Going on my first trip soon. Also curious what jacket is that with the multiple colors? Thanks!
@BackcountryPaddler Жыл бұрын
Hey! Have a great time on your first trip and feel free to hit me up for anything you need. I love helping out in those regards! The jacket is a down jacket made by Alpine. Nothing special think I paid $50 for it a few years ago.

Not sure what the going price is on them now but I paid around $2600 for mine when I got it. It included an discount from the Toronto Outdoor Show. This was a few years back, so I'd expect them to be quite a bit more now.

i like that twig stove a lot, but i've never used one. do you need to split the logs? there's plenty of times where those won't split well. do you pack in some fatwood or is the splitting not really necessary, just easier fire management?
@BackcountryPaddler2 жыл бұрын
It definitely wouldn't hurt. They can be a bit difficult to get lit, especially if the wood is damp. It might not be "bushcraft" but I'd suggest some sort of fire starter as well.

I'm just itching for a canoe trip right now. We've been having a rough spring. Each time I think it's over and we get a day of warm weather, it quickly goes away and we face temps below 50 and snow hits the mountains again for another week.
