Not the same as going bush, countryside or forest, beach etc...how wonderful/neat...:-) To get away from all this nonsense going on around us a???

That was beautiful. Elvis! Him chasing “sky raisins” as I call them- my dog does the same. I am getting better with the Ferro rod, but not “one strike” good… I wonder how our ancestors dealt with flies, mosquitoes, ticks… what did they use to deal with them!? Much respect from Northern Maine.

In youth I and my scruffy American full blood mutt went on a 7 day quest of completeexppolration of a very large lake. First two days were spent mostly under a canoe and canvas tarp out of wind blown snow and freezing rain. End of day 2 it cleared and a full moon crystal clear night began so I pulled stakes loaded canoe and off we went. After Northern blizzards and storm sometimes perfect no wind calm ensued. In those first days of year edges of lake was iced up so you watched for where streams entered and melted ice. My dog and I survived off of fish, a sort of pemmican, moose jerky and a Black Duck,( original eastern mallard). At end of week even though. Dog and I bathed in lake we smelled like wet dog and human and dogfarts and were scratching fleas. For water we did what no man should do today. Drank the streams and lake water At nights water reflected heavens as if a mirror and being as it was a very large lake and mirror smoothing the middle it seemed as if my canoe, dog, and were afloat in the heavens. The silence was what drove many into being stir crazy and everything they did was as loud as hell. Oh there were noises but not a one made by humans except a paddle making silver water drops and bow of canoe cutting through starfilled water, startled beaver , loons and ducks, various owls, Lynx calls and of course my and dogs breathing, just as when we savages and pagans of ancient times passed through. My dog and myself asleep under two wool blankets and a Moose hide kept the cold from bothering our daylight or night sleeps. Impossible to find solitude near that lake today as the crudness of civilization invaded and indeed acts stir crazy from having to yell above other man made savages toys of over boats, yappling mini almost dogs, music dogs and plastic autos, so as to let world know he is alive,
