Sean (Shug), you are one of the most knowledgeable campers I know. Your videos are informative and entertaining to watch. I have over 100 BWCAW trips and still guide and outfit trips at the age of 72. You are a man after my own heart! I admit that I am a tent camper, but I still enjoy learning about your hammock style of camping. I have hiked part of the Sioux/Hustler Trail and canoed that area extensively. It is fun to get your perspective of that area. You rock! Keep posting those awesome and informative videos on KZbin.

Great trip report as usual. My son and I have been going up to the BWCA every year since 1997. Just recently switched to hammocks for sleeping. No turning back to tents for us. More times than not its easier to find good hanging spots than good tent sites. Really enjoy your trip reports, especially the canoe journey. We've been up the Little Indian Sioux area as far as Lynx Lake. Nice area and pretty decent fishing that way as well. Heard wolves early one morning on Upper Pauness campsite last time we were there. Thanks again for taking the time to document your trip for us to enjoy.

E Wynn We hiked Sioux Hustler Trail last Fall so wanted to see what was in the middle of it all. As you know a terrific area. And a late day hammock nap seems to go well with canoe life. Ahhhh...that wind and bird song as you slumber then get up, make a coffee and watch the Sunset Show. Whooooooooo Buddy))))))

I did some portaging in the BWCA about 12 years ago. Carrying the canoe wasn't so bad as much as the skeeters and flies. Torture not being able to swat them when you're carrying the canoe, especially going through the darker sections of the woods, the bugs get pretty dense. Still one of the funnest experiences I've ever had, being out there. Thanks for taking the time to get such unique footage and taking the time to edit your videos so nicely, and thanks for being so good about responding to people!

For the unacquainted, a portage is the traditional Voyageur term for an overland trail connecting two bodies of water. Portages are still measured in terms of "rods", one rod corresponding to 16.5 feet or 5 meters. There are 320 rods per mile. To convert portages into miles, multiply the number of rods by .0031. To convert portages to kilometers, multiply the number of rods by .005

portage is a french word meaning "hauling". you can also say transporter, meaning to bring something else where. the word portage end in "age" that in french would be best described as an action that you do principally. you can say: va porter la nouriture la bas. (go put the food there)

Thanks Shug, for another great video experience I think I've watched almost all of your vids and appreciate each of them and the time you have spent educating and entertaining us. I am the same age as you and I have to tell you that you have encouraged me to put away the tent, and get on out there in them wooods. I've ordered a bug net kind of hammock ( cause them skeeters are righteous in Lousiana), bought hiking boots and away I shall go. I'll continue to learn from your vids and one day graduate to equipment like yours. But most of all, sincerely, Thank You.

Aloha Shug. Got a question. Will your wood burning stove fit, The Nomadic, fit inside your ole Imusa cooking pot? It would seem like a good combo to work with. Mahalo, for taking us all along, yet again, Sir!

Eat Carbs That was my role. Strung Out carried our food and other gear. Easier to doit this way as no decisions at portage about it. I liked it.

Hey Shug - just a bit ago, I posted to the Hammock Forums Gallery three of my "Shug Shirt images at Trail Days!" SHOUT-Out photos I had mentioned to you in a previous comment. (It was during the hiker parade.) They are under my trail name: Crooked Sticks. I wasn't sure which category to use, so I selected "Faces" Enjoy!

Tracey Allen No.....i was too busy carrying the canoe to film him. He shoulder carried it at first then balences his load and carried it overhead with head in cockpit and had tail end forward and rested it a bit on the top of his backpack. After this trip I see the portability of a conoe as a strength. Kayaks don't seem to be designed for portaging.

I totally get that. My family did a few canoe trips with portages in AK. As a kid I didn't have to do much of the work. Just sit back and enjoy...and sleep on the ground. ;)

While the trip footage was totally awesome, I did a tad of kayaking, but bad experience in class 4 water, kayak no more on fast water. I have to say my favorite part of this vid was Strung Out's hammock. I understand why he would not go in to manufacturing. But too bad someone isn't making his design. I would have to have mine in hot pink and a lime green bug net, and a bright purple tarp. mmm hmmm!
