It's a loon, it's a crane...it's Shugman! Faster than a Canadian portage; more powerful than a through-hikers calf muscles. Sharing the joy of camping and keeping sector seven secure for all! Well done, Shugman, well done...and a hearty woo-buddy to you!!

Thanks for taking us on another ramble. I'm watching this still a little sun-fried and stinky from a walkabout in the mountains. No hammocking (over 3,000 feet elevation and over 500 feet above any hammock-bearing trees). Lots of snow on the ground and ice in the water still, but the temperature has leaped into the high 70's and I got cooked. I had to laugh; it looked as if the lady thought you were planning to spit-roast her pooch. Perhaps if you had been wearing the office slickster shirt she might have given you a smile. I have often fallen asleep listening to the other-worldly calls of loons, and there is nothing quite it.

IF there was ever one place I'd like to retire to....it would have to be the Arrowhead country up yonder:-). Nothing like waking up next to one of those lakes, the loons through the lifting fog as the sun rises, sipping on a hot cup of coffee, then those first chilly, wet couple steps you take launching the canoe off for another day of paddling to the next campsite:-). Of course the great fishing to boot:-)!

So happy you finally got in a canoe up there. I've been going on trips like that since 1983 and your perspective is very interesting. Wet feet? - oh yeah! The sungasses miscue is something I've always dreaded. You came through that like a champ. A champ that looks like Zorro. Ha Ha. The only thing missing is hearing wolves howling. And maybe a bear in camp.... Can't wait for part 2. Nice job as always.

I really enjoyed this one especially the creative camera shots. What is next bikepacking? Or I guess unipacking in your case.

Great vid shug! Awesome to see you give it a try! Paddling is similar but also very different from hiking (I have to about 80+ bwca/Querico trips under my belt now). I hope you brought an extra pair of shoes (dry) for camp. Chota's are great boots (H2O proof) for portage's. A bit surprised your friend would bring a kayak on a 280 rod portage. Were your friends veteran paddlers? Lastly, if you go on another trip you need to try my ZRE carbon fiber paddle. Weighs about 11oz. Makes a huge difference. Just like wearing a light weight pack as opposed to a weighed down 50pound pack on a hike. Having a UL paddle is much more enjoyable, less fatigue, etc. Great job buddy!

As always very informative, nice job. Do you treat your hammock with Permethrin or just clothing? Can you give a quick take on the Off Fans too, I am heading to the BWCA in August with some friends and could use the advise.

Paul Baroni I did blast a little on my hammock. The OFF fan help in the skeeter battle for sure. I have mentioned them on a few videos.

We took that route a few years ago, into Shell Lake, and the portage you were on that was under water, the same as what you had. At the time, the water was deep enough that we were able to canoe the entire length of it just fine. Leeches, yuck...

Hey Shug, just rewatching some of my favorite Shug videos. Love the song in this vid, been finding myself humming it without trying. Question: does Tom sell any of his hammock+uq creations? If so, does he have a website? Whoo Buddy))) Can't wait to get back in the piney woods!!
