It worked! Million thanks! Just one thing more to mention: after removing battery cover also pull out the SD card as fast as you can after the cover. If you wait to long for the SD card it doesn't work... ;)

When you copy the old Firmware on the SD CARD, do you delete the new Firmware 1.36 before you insert the card?

I had to mute the obnoxious background music and slow the video down to .5 in order to follow along. I'll need to watch it a few more times, take notes, and then try this. I'm sure Canon will come up with a way to stop this retrograde ASAP, which is why I want to get this done. I'm on a Mac, so I'll have to make some adjustments.

Not sure how it worked followed step by step mine get gets Firmware older than 1.3.6 is on memory card. Delete old file and update using later version. up on adding 1.2.3 firmware to sd card and remove battery cover cam gets to next stage firmware update and goes black screen as you mention

Dear simple. You should installed already 1.3.6 in cam. 1. First you copy in your card 1.3.6 2. Go to update firmware 1.3.6 when you click ok immediately open battery cover. 3. Open memory card and copy 1.2.3 and insert card 4.first close memory card door then close battery cover 5.firmware update and asked you update 1.3.6 or 1.2.3 you select 1.2.3 Simple
