Just remember, the canon 10d produced a lot of magazine covers, the classic 5d was in a class of its own. Every year new advances come out, but in the end it’s the person using the camera that makes the image. If you are worried about ISO, and crop sensors you are missing the point of photography.

It's always important to remember that as a photographer, work and play need to remain balanced otherwise you get burnt out. For me, I keep my film gear and APS-C compact kit for fun. I don't use them for work because they're so slow/clunky by comparison, but that's what makes them fun to use. You just relax and take photos at you own pace. As a professional, that luxury is seldom available when on an assignment, so it's great to remember that it's fun to just calmly take photos at your own pace. Shooting film helps me a lot with that.
@wellwhatthen101012 жыл бұрын
Yes i do agree its the balance that you have to get right . Nothing wrong with the equipment its the person behind that camera that counts you can achive great photographs with nearly every camera as as long as you have good glass it's the skill that is required and as long as you have that any one can take fantastic photos with this camera.

The late 00's/early 10's were some good years for Canon bodies - I'm driving both a 7D Mk1 and 1D MkIV, and I love them both equally. There is something reassuring about the ergonomics, the build quality, and as you mention, the mechanicals of the thing. I like the challenge of shooting with older cameras and when you get some great images, it makes you feel as if you earn them and not because you had some new camera with an awesome hybrid auto focus or some other advantage. Just like how film cameras are having a comeback today, I think in the future people using mirrorless camera will start a DSLR comeback, we will have to wait and see!

I still have an old XSI (EOS 450D/EOS KISS x2). I bought it in 2008, when it was released, and I basically learned everything I know about pictures from it. In those 13 (!!) years I have changed equipment several times but I never got rid of my first EOS. It was never for technical assistance, it never gave any problem and, thirteen years later, I still use the original battery (the only one I had in it). Photographing with her today is a reminder of how fast things change, of how technology evolves but it is mainly an exercise for me to remember everything I have done and can do with her. How technically it limits me when I decide to play with it is a great reminder of everything I can do (and, modesty aside, it's a lot) with such old and outdated equipment. I love this camera because it reminds me of where I started. I know, everyone says that and it sounds silly ... but the equipment doesn't matter.

Oh boy, just gander at the "out of control" moire on those vents 0:54 . Terrible! This is why back in the day I bought a GH2 which was amazingly moire free by the way it downsampled to 1080p. This is also one reason why the 7D is so darn soft (improper downsampling and throwing away data). I have a G7 and GX85 and they are still amazing 4k unlimited recording time cameras. BTW, I love all your DAC audio related videos. Can you recommend a reasonably priced pci express audio card? When I upgrade my 2600k computer with windows 7, I'm going to loose my Echo Mia Digital Audio Sound PCI card since new motherboards don't have a PCI slot anymore. I might upgrade to only a 9th gen intel system and still find a MB with a lone PCI slot and stick with windows 7 for a few more years. That's how important a pro audio card is to me. I still use windows iTunes v10.7.0.21 x64 with my whole audio collection in apple lossless codec in "cover flow" mode. I also hate windows 10 and avoid it like the plague for many reasons. I have two 7Ds, one I bought right when they came out the other one about a year later. I also have a 5D MKII, and I would more often than not use one of the 7Ds when I had a shoot. They had more stuff, like an optical transmitter for off camera flash, etc. I'm a professional photographer and have several other newer Canons, however, I still use the 7Ds and the 5D MKII, at times because they deliver great images. Glass and talent make good images, the camera is a nice tool, but I think we've created a nation of techie geeks rather than real photographers. I'm glad you made the video about the 7D, it's a tank of a camera and will give you great images if you know how to see light. A good travel lens for the 7D or any crop sensor Canon is the Canon EF-S 18-135 IS. Two other good lenses to have on hand, if you're shooting as a pro and need options, are the EF-S 17-85 and the EF-S 10-22. The nifty fifty EF 50mm 1.8 is a inexpensive lens that yields very good results with a Canon crop sensor and the 1.6 crop factor makes it into a good portrait lens at 80mm.

I get paid to shoot a series of running races for four different running event businesses; I could be busy working almost every weekend working. Still use my Canon 7D and Canon 5Dii. I like it when other photographers are there with the latest gear and my images are better. It's not the gear, it's how you use it.

I still fight with it, meaning focus vs lens focusing is therapeutical for patience development!

I still rock a 20d as my main camera. I still get nice results when paired with the right lens but I do feel it's not as beginner friendly if I hand it over to family.
@SomeGadgetGuy3 жыл бұрын
Truth. No photos of me from the 7D were any good when taken by family.
@ChrisPollard3 жыл бұрын
If memory serves me, that 20D is the 'better' version of my old XT! They're still great cameras, if you know how to use them. AKA, stick to manual settings. Auto mode never impressed me. But I learned to shoot on self-rolled black and white film in high school ... where we also developed our own film and made our own prints with a big ol' enlarger stuck in a closet. So I like manual controls.

I still use my 7d to take nearly all of my rally photos and portraits. I have tried to use 7dmk2 and 6dmk2 but if i know that i have to deliver good grade photos then i use it.

I pulled mine out today and was mortified to hear a rattle from inside it. It still works, but I am afraid to use it. I have been hauling it around as a backup body and now I don’t know if it is worth taking it in for repair. I was planning on hanging on to it for all eternity because it has been an amazing camera.
@SomeGadgetGuy2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely worth a call to canon, but it's tough on these older bodies to judge the ROI.

Focus peaking really helps when I use my Nikon and canon lenses on my 7D.

Bought a used 7D a little over a year ago from MPB in perfect condition with less than 6k on the shutter count and with a battery grip for $179.00. It now spends more time in the field shooting than my 5DMKII or my 1DXMKII. The IC definitely outweighs it's limitations for this workhorse if you can find a good one.

I had used my dad's (abandoned since mid-90s) Zenit EM, with Helios 50 1.8 and CZ Sonnar 135 3.5 lenses, circa 2006-2012. Then the light meter needle stopped working, and I was too broke to afford guessing the correct exposure. Didn't think of using my phone to take a test photo and check out its EXIF. Also, why dad never bought a wide lens and how did he manage to shoot all those family photos anyway, I've no idea.

"uh... Gotta stand farther away from you kids while out in public... Uh... Because of... THE LENS! My lens! That's the ticket! Do you even know how much a wide lens costs? You don't? Eleventh BILLION dollars!"

2021, I am still using my 7D. Studio photos with canon L 24-105 are still very nice. The manual focus during video has a human charm. I should be upgrading to the r6 in a few weeks. Anxious to see how they compare in reality other than on some spec sheet and pixel peeping. The 7D def has terrible low light performance. Still using the original battery and the thing works great. That’s why I’ll be a canon guy. 🤟

omg. This was my first dslr camera experience, this was the camera we had at my first workplace. As a n00b who had to take photos of events for work it was rather point-shoot friendly.

Hmmm, a happy memory with my Canon 7d? I guess that it would be that it is still faithfully serving me 12 years later. I am learning more now of it's limitations since I started shooting indoor sports 3 years ago. Before that it was primarily little league baseball, football (not the soccer kind), soccer and outdoor volleyball. Whereas now I have added indoor volleyball and basketball to the mix and I'm sure I'll eventually add others. For outdoor sports, I have no complaints except for low light conditions, but indoor sports are a completely different scenario for low light. I also shot concerts, wildlife and airshows with this camera with great success. I think that if I had one thing to note about my camera after almost 90,000 photos is that seems to be getting more clunkier. It's a little bit noisier and sometimes focuses a little slower. But I have a plan to get it serviced soon. I shot the Canon Rebel (the original) from 2004 until 2010 when I got my 7D and I have no complaints about that one either except one. And that's that I don't have it any more. LoL! Great video and great update review on one of Canon's great cameras. Thank you.

Still using my Canon 7D... its a tank, and my backup for 5Dii which also is a very trusty body... .(I had several 5D classics + 6D classics as well, but they all failed me so I left them behind).

That's definitely the combo. I wanted that 5Dii SO bad.

I remember back when it was only film I would take my film to my chemist store and they would send it away for developing. Two weeks later I'd have to visit the store repeatedly to see if the photos arrived and sometimes it would arrive for three weeks! Then I'd open photos and more often less than half the images were inside because light damaged the film when I was opening the camera to wind up and release the film :(

I own a Sony A6400. I found one of these in storage. My Gaaah its an amazing camera I love the bolt action style shooting. I upgraded the compact flash to 128GB and bought spare batteries. I'm going to be shooting with this. Its so much funner and rewarding when you get the photos right. Luckily mine camr with nice red ringed lenses with IS woot woot
